Rapid their record is 14-6 They beat Deming 3-2 and Silver 3-0 we beat Deming 2-1 and 1-0 and we beat Silver 5-1 so we may be pretty evenly matched. The picture or video under my logo is the game winning header in overtime by my son against Deming here at the MACK look closely and you'll see it. Go Dogs

Scorps advance to state title gameBy Darren Vaughan The Daily Times
Posted: 11/07/2009 12:00:00 AM MST

ALBUQUERQUE — The Farmington Scorpions advanced to their second Class 4A boys soccer state championship game in four years, knocking off second-seeded Albuquerque Academy 2-1 on Friday at the APS Soccer Complex.
Riley McGovern scored a pair of goals — one in each half — and goalkeeper Brycen Campbell was nothing short of spectacular in helping the No. 3 Scorps (18-3, 2-0 postseason) hold on for their first trip to the state title match since 2006 and third overall in program history.

McGovern got the Scorpions on the board first with an unassisted tally, firing a shot from about 18 yards out that beat Chargers keeper Xavier Moya to the right side. His second goal came in spectacular fashion, as he converted a crossing pass from Jesse Little with a diving header to give FHS a 2-0 lead.

"It was amazing," Farmington assistant coach Felix Chacon said.

Academy scored with 18 minutes left in the match to cut the Scorpions' lead in half, but Campbell was up to the challenge the rest of the way.

"Brycen Campbell came up big with some huge saves," Chacon said. "He kept us in the game. The men of the match were McGovern and Campbell. Everybody played great, but these two really kept us in it."

Farmington will face fifth-seeded Los Alamos for the state championship today at 11 a.m. at the APS Soccer Complex. The Hilltoppers advanced by beating eighth-seeded Piedra Vista in a shootout in Friday's other semifinal.

It will be the first time since the New Mexico Activities Association went to three classifications in boys soccer in 2000 that the Class 4A championship has pitted a pair of public school teams. Academy was the lone private school left in the 4A field, thanks to Piedra Vista's 3-2 double-overtime win over St. Pius in Thursday's quarterfinal round.
"It's a non-Albuquerque thing and a non-private school thing, and that's definitely on a lot of people's minds," Chacon said. "It's definitely exciting for 4A soccer in the state of New Mexico right now — new territory."

Farmington will look to become the first boys soccer team from San Juan County to win a state championship since 1991, when Aztec held off Bloomfield 2-1 to win the Class 1A-3A title. Since then, teams from San Juan County have combined to go 0-4 in title-game appearances.

Los Alamos is making its first championship game appearance since 2003, when the Hilltoppers lost 1-0 to St. Pius. LAHS' lone state title came in a 2-0 win over Eldorado in the 1986 Class 4A championship game, with back-to-back runner-up finishes in 1994 and 1995.

"The big key is going to be controlling the midfield," Chacon said. "What we've found historically is that when we play our top-level soccer, we contain the midfield."

No. 5 Los Alamos 2, No. 8 Piedra Vista 1, SO

Alejandro Muñoz scored a big goal off a corner kick with 20 minutes left in regulation for the Panthers (16-7, 2-1 postseason), but clutch goalkeeping in the shootout earned the win for the Hilltoppers (17-6, 3-0).

Los Alamos scored on each of its shootout attempts, putting the pressure on the Panthers. However, a big save on Corey Blackwater's chance and an off-target attempt by Ray DeKay gave the Hilltoppers the cushion they needed to capture the win.

Jesse Wood and Muñoz scored on their attempts for Piedra Vista.

"It was a very close game," PV coach Carlos Yllescas said. "The last 10 minutes, we were right there — all over them."

Yllescas was frustrated by some of the officiating decisions made in Friday's game, but didn't allow that to take anything away from his team. The Panthers enjoyed their most successful season to date, one that included knocking off New Mexico's premier program in seven-time defending champion St. Pius.

"In the game, we had some chances — man, we were so close," Yllescas said. "We played a great game. We were hoping to get to play Farmington, but we did beat the No. 1 team, so that works for Farmington.

"I'm proud of these boys," he added. "I have a lot of young players, and they had to learn what state means. I think we'll come back stronger next year."
