I know this is off topic but this board is bored! Some Artesia 8 year old yutes (see "My cousin Vinny) took back to back championships over the last two weekends. First up were the "Predators" who won the 10U Hike-It tourney last weekend with 7&8 year olds! Members included Josh Madrid, Davis Eulenbach, Nathan Taylor and Jake Barrera and two other kids I don't know. This weekend the 8U group won a baseball tourney in Lovington. In addition to the names listed above a certain kid named Randall Hamilton was a member. I missed both of these tourneys as I was in NYC and Washington DC with my two older boys. Apparently the football team beat some Tucson team for the title and the baseball club won all 4 games by a combined score of 50 something to 3! Teams were coached by Brian Taylor and Boy Barrera. Good job boys and coaches! Funny note to the baseball. Apparently a Hobbs coach told his team after getting waxed that we have been playing together for years and there's nothing else to do in Artesia! They haves practiced for a week together!
Next weekend their going for the three-peat in field hockey!

This board is boring cause there is nothing to do in Artesia except play sports lol. I heard a Hobbs parent say that too on a cell phone, she said Artesia hit's like a 14U team and they play year round ha ha, makes you feel good to hear that though. I think this group of 8 year olds could be a special class and I like the group of 9 year olds ahead of them. I hope those are a couple good years when they are juniors and seniors in all sports Football, Basketball & Baseball. I did post about them in the Youth Sports thread Jay, there is a picture of the team. I'll repost it here. artesiabulldogs.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=youthsports1&action=display&thread=4850Here's a couple video clips, sorry it's mostly my kid hitting but that's who I go to see mostly lol, there is 1 good hit by Kade Hewitt who knock's Randall in to score.

There was some tears out there believe me lol, some moms getting upset. It wasn't our game but another one I was watching in our age group. Kid gets a good hit and drives in some runs, well the catcher on the opposing team is standing right on home plate, doesn't even have the ball or waiting for a throw, well the baserunner just runs into him, more like bumps into him and knocks him over and a couple moms are going crazy, almost ready to fight. She calmed down finally then another mom from a different team explained to her that he got knocked over because he's standing on the plate and he doesn't even have the ball, the baserunner has just as much right to that base as he does. lol gotta love it.
Our kids scored a total of 69 runs and only gave up 4, they will play in alamogordo next weekend, we will see how they do over there.

Sounds like they are going to be tough. That is a lot of runs scored and some pretty good defense.
I just thought jayster probably meant "8 year olds on a terror" so I wanted to give him a hard time. When you have to explain it then it is not as funny. lol

Well we went to Alamo this weekend, 11 teams in our division. We drew the very best teams for pool play on Saturday, we lost Game 1 to El Paso lil blue by 1 run, they went on to win the top flight division. That was our first loss ever and we were just snake bit in games 2 & 3 errors and not hitting our best so we went 0-3 and would play in the 2nd flight division on Sunday for the title there. We ran through the 2nd flight division on Sunday, run ruling every team going 3-0 to claim the title. We really wanted to be in that top flight division, we were definitely good enough, we were the only team to play El Paso blue that close, like I said we lost by 1 run to them. All in all we played well when we don't make mistakes, we are as good as anybody. Think the boys will have 1 more tournament this summer, a wooden bat tournament next month in Hobbs. 1st Place, 2nd Division In Alamo

My 7 year old Grandson will play in a USSSA 7 and under Tourney in two weeks with 64 teams. My 11 year Old Grandson has already played 65 games this year and have qualified and will play this weekend in the USSSA World Series. We were ranked #1 in State at one point and got moved to AAA and are ranked #7 in AAA. There will be 42 teams in WS

That's pretty cool cdog, me and texas oil have talked about this some. There is no comparing in the amount of games a lot texas kids have.
Counting league, and the three tournaments my kid will probably have played around 35 games, around half of what your grandson will play. It's almost like they have an extra season under their belt. It makes it tough when you play some of these teams from west texas that play about twice as much as we do, but living around DFW I'm sure there's all kinds of tournaments to attend unlike SE NM. Good luck to your grandson.

In Reply to: Re: "On a tear" posted by Bruce Kahl on July 07, 2004 : : : : I have been coming across the phrase "on a tear" a lot lately here in the US. I checked the OED and found the meanings "a spree (US slang)" and "a violent rage, passion" for the word tear, which seem to fit the general sense of the phrase. Has anyone else noticed this phrase cropping up a lot recently, or has it been around forever and I've just never caught it before? I don't see it listed on any of the cliche/idiom sites I've visited. : : : I always thought it was "On a terror" : : I am familiar with "on a tear." Done it a few times myself. : Here in the NE part of the USA being on a tear has been around and used quite a bit. : I was on a tear from about the time Sgt. Pepper was released till 7-23-92. 12 years not being on a tear. : You are all invited to a church basement for a piece of cake. Here in Ireland 'on the tear' means on a drinking binge.

8U boys All Stars finished up their last tournament of the season today. A wood bat tournament in Hobbs. They go 4-0 overall, played an Odessa Team for the championship with a decent tournament record of 24-15 overall compared to our 10 games experience. Thrilling game but Artesia won 3-2, we were the home team and scored the go ahead run in our last at bat to win. Some spectacular plays made out there today especially on defense, we had to grind it out with the wood bats to get those runs. It was a good summer for them.

It was a lot of fun. The boys played awesome defense that last game. On to kid pitch from here. No more coach pitch! Players in order of positioning on the field were Aaron Davis, Cade Hewitt, Josh Madrid, Davis Eulenbach, Jake Barrera, TJ Thalman, Randall Hamilton, Jayden Bratcher, Nathan Taylor and Santiago!
