One of the most exciting football games I have seen in quite a while but I'm getting too old for too many games like that, my heart may not be able to take it. Way to go 'dogs, now beat Las Cruces....

Epic game, it certainly lived up to the Eddy County War, back and forth game all night, it rained all night, it rained the hardest as the game was ending. Cavemen are up by 3 at the half and stretch it to 10 in the 3rd but the Bulldogs come from behind and pull out the victory in the 4th quarter 44-41. The Bulldogs move to 5-0 on the season.

I had looked forward to this game all week! Definitely planned on going! But the idea of sitting in a downpour for 2 1/2 hours was just more than I could bear. So I decided to stay home and watch the KSVP video stream instead. And I did! At least for a little while.
Ashamed to admit that I cashed it in, in the 3rd quarter when C-Bad was up by 10. I was DEAD tired and went to bed. Got up just a few minutes ago and got on here and found out that we actually won the game. Wow, what a pleasant surprise! I should have stuck with it!

Prep football: Artesia beats Carlsbad as both teams take to the air in Battle for Eddy County By Ben Gibson www.currentargus.com/carlsbad-sports/ci_21659021/prep-football-artesia-beats-carlsbad-both-teams-takeCARLSBAD — The Battle for Eddy County turned airborne with nine passing touchdowns between Carlsbad and Artesia, but Aldo Rayos interception on defense sealed the 44-41 victory for the Bulldogs. "They knew what they were doing and found our young guys and did a good job of finding the leaks in our defense," Carlsbad coach Ron Arrington said. Artesia's Trevor Eulenbach threw six touchdown passes in a shootout between the two squads. The Cavemen, meanwhile, recorded three touchdown passes and punched in another three scores on the ground. The Bulldogs wasted no time on their first drive as they took two plays to move to score as Trevor Eulenbach found Miguel Rodriguez for a 65-yard pass. The 7-0 lead didn't last long as the Cavemen answered back with a touchdown drive of their own. Carlsbad punched the ball in with a Marcus Arrington six-yard rush. But the Cavemen's extra point was blocked, leaving them trailing 7-6. Artesia answered back with a long sustained touchdown drive capped off by Eulenbach firing a pass to Gavino Saiz for a 25 yard score and a 14-6 lead. The scoring continued as the Cavemen answered back with another visit to the redzone before Rodney Holcomb finished off the drive with a 2 yard run to bring the score to 14-13. But Artesia put the last points on the scoreboard in the first quarter with a quick series of passes to finish the drive off with Eulenbach finding Deion Wesson for a 2 yard toss and a 21-13 lead. The Cavemen answered back to start the second quarter with Holcomb finding Tyler Hyden on a 54 yard strike to cut the lead down to 21-20. The Bulldogs made their first mistake of the game on the following kickoff with a fumble at midfield that was picked up by Carlsbad's Garrett Bryson. The Cavemen did not waste the opportunity as they steadily marched down the shortened field with Holcomb tossing the ball to Dillion Caddell for a 13-yard score and their first lead of the game with a score of 27-21. The Cavemen defense held off the Bulldogs and forced a 30-yard field goal by Donovan Orosco to leave Artesia trailing 27-24 at the half. The Cavemen took the ball into Bulldog territory before facing a 3rd and 15 but Holcomb hit Hyden on a bubble screen and Hyden followed the lead of his blockers for a 41 yard touchdown and a 34-24 lead. Carlsbad forced a punt on Artesia's next drive but a Holcomb fumble at midfield gave the ball back to the Bulldogs. Artesia only needed one play to take advantage of the Cavemen's mistake as Eulenbach dropped a deep pass to Rodriguez to bring cut the Carlsbad lead down to 34-31. Kain Fierro answered back with a pair of long runs, the second from 15 yards out and good for a touchdown as he slipped inside the pylon to stretch Carlsbad's lead to 41-31. Artesia cut the lead down to three again after Eulenbach hit Zane Pittam on a 53 yard pass to put the score at 41-38. The Cavemen pushed the ball deep into Artesia's side of the field to start the fourth quarter before a Holcomb to Hyden screen pass on fourth down extended the drive to 22 yard line, but penalties and miscues forced a 4th and 26 that Carlsbad could not cover, giving the Bulldogs the ball on their 34 yard line. Artesia then gashed the Cavemen defense for 51 yards on a Eulenbach pass to Rodriguez to put the ball on the Carlsbad 15 yard line. But Bryson found his way to the ball again on defense for the Cavemen as he intercepted the ball inside the 10 yard line to erase the Artesia scoring threat with less the eight minutes left in the game. "That was huge. It gave us a chance and was a big part of us staying in the game," Arrington said. But Bryson's two turnover wouldn't be enough as the Bulldogs stuck back with a 26 yard touchdown pass from Eulenbach to Orosco to take the lead for good with a 44-41 lead. The Cavemen's hopes were extended by a fourth down conversion but dashed when Holcomb's pass went long and was picked by Aldo Rayos to effectively end the game. The Cavemen fall to 3-2 while Artesia's record remains unblemished at 5-0.

I could not leave the live stream in Rio Rancho. I was an exciting game. It seems it always is against the Cavemen. The defense came through on Carlsbad's final drive; Good job. Now defense pick it up one more notch against the next team and win. You're the best in the eyes of Artesians no matter what town or city we live in. Once a bulldog always a BULLDOG....
