What about Goddard? Did they lose so much from last year's team that they won't be able to reload? How did Goddard's sub-varsity teams do in district do last year? I just moved from Texas.

What about Go ddard? Did they lose so much from last year's team that they won't be able to reload? How did Goddard's sub-varsity teams do in district do last year? I just moved from Texas. They lose Cody French who was a pretty good player, don't really know about the rest. Players graduating never seems to be a problem for Goddard anyways, they are always tough on D and can run the ball. I think a lot of that credit goes to Jernigan too, without him I think they will go through a transition, depending on who gets that job, if there was a year to get back on track against them, this is it.

A good defense and running game will always take a team far...Goddard may still be hard to beat...How the Artesia sub-varsity teams fared against Goddard last year will speak volumes. I am really interested in seeing the Dogs play this year and hope they do well. In Texas, I used to travel all over the state watching games.

Mr. Catman you shoulda brought some Texas talent to Artesia. Sorry 'bout that. As you know, most Texans think they already live in Heaven and wouldn't move. lol. I'd like to know some things about rules here in NM...If there are 4 teams in Artesia's district, how many of them can advance to playoff competition? Does each school have junior varsity and sophomore teams that compete weekly against other teams? Are all NM schools advancing up one level this year? I heard the Bulldogs are going from 4A to 5A. What TX teams have the Bulldogs played before?

Catman ... before someone else lets you know in a less than delicate manner, we prefer Dogs here. Dawgs around here refers to the Las Cruces Bulldawgs. Even though they usually play great football, they have trouble spelling. LOL

Catman I live in Mansfield and love watching Mansfield High, Bowie, Southlake Carroll and Desoto and Cedar Hill. Amazing talent I was living in south Arlington close to the Parks Mall before moving to NM. It is an area of great talent. I have 2 kids that went to SLC back when they were in 2A. Also a niece that went to Trinity. The thing they have in DFW is racial diversity(read lots of Black athletes).

My Grandson is a 7th Grader at a Mid School in Mansfield and they have 180 athletes out for football. They tested last week and 5 kids ran under 4.9 in 40 and my Grandson ran a 5.0. This is 7th Graders.

How many returning starters do the Bulldogs have each side of the line? Are there returning skill players?

Does each school have junior varsity and sophomore teams that compete weekly against other teams? Are all NM schools advancing up one level this year? I heard the Bulldogs are going from 4A to 5A. What TX teams have the Bulldogs played before? I'll try to answer a couple of your questions Catman. We have been a 3 team district for many years. The Lovington Wildcats are entering our district this coming season to make it a 4 team district. As far as how many can advance to the playoffs, that is decided by committee up North somewhere. Record, strength of schedule, etc. ... are considered. There have been several times in football where all 3 teams in our district made the playoffs. They have added just this year a new classification (6A) and all schools are moving up one slot in classification. Lovington has been in a lower classification than us for quite some time, but has apparently added enough in enrollment to move up with us this year. The Lovington Wildcats have always been on the Bulldogs schedule as far as I know and were once in the same district with us. I'm not sure exactly when they moved from our district to a lower classification. I'm sure there are high school football scholars on here who can answer that question if you are interested. As far as Texas teams that Artesia has played in the past, I know we've played Seminole, Fabens, and several different El Paso teams. I think most recently we played El Paso Cathedral about 3 seasons ago. One of your other questions was regarding Junior Varsity squads. Our junior high school has 4 football teams. There is an 8th grade Orange team and a White team and a 9th grade Orange team and White team. The Orange teams are the stronger squads. Our high school teams include Varsity, JV-A and JV-B squad. The JV-B team is made up entirely of Sophomores. There are also sophomores that play on the JV-A and Varsity teams as well depending on their abilities and team needs.

As far as returning starters and skill positions, I have no idea. We'll know more about that come August I guess. Coach Henderson has the guys participate in 7 on 7 competitions in July. I haven't heard if there is a 7 on 7 here in the Bowl this summer or not.
Just as a side note Catman (not sure how familiar you are with NM football), half of our schedule is made up of 6A teams and the other half are 5A. Our 6A opponents are Hobbs, Deming, Carlsbad, Las Cruces Bulldawgs, and Alamogordo. The Lovington game up until this year has always been our first game of the season. Since they moved into our district, that game will move to the bottom of the schedule during District play. Belen is new to the schedule this year and Alamogordo is as well replacing games against Del Norte and Clovis from the past 2 year block.
I also spent time living in Arlington, TX. I lived there from the Fall of 1985 until the Summer of 1995. My son was born in Grand Prairie in 1994.
