It has been 40 years since the Bulldogs played Pius for the State Championship in 1975. I believe that was the first we ever played them. I was at the game. It was played in the old Albuquerque Sports stadium. A minor league baseball stadium for the farm team of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Both teams fans sat on the same side of the stadium down the 3rd base line. It was cold with snow flurries through the game. Not too clear on what all happened in the first half. Just know we were behind at halftime, by I think 15-17. The Bulldogs were a running team in those days. So, not feeling so good at halftime. Was a stalemate through much of the 3rd and 4th quarters. Until Rapid recovered a fumble on about the Pius 40yrd line? Can't remember how much time was left in the game. Not much. Not sure of what the down was or how long the pass was(I think about 25 yrds.) when Jerry Brown hit Corey Tolle on his knees in the endzone. Final Dogs 22-17. Probably the best Bulldog game I witnessed for a Championship. I did not like Pius and still don't. Ha! Anyone else who was there fill in the blanks and memories. Gitrdone Dogs!

That was my senior year, graduated in '76 but it was the 1975 season. I was not playing, but I was in the stands. And yes, that was the very first time we played St Pius.

I'm pretty sure I remember as a very small child watching a heavily favored St. Pius team get destroyed by the 1974 version of Artesia Bulldogs by a score of something like 48-0. If I am thinking of the right team, they were the 3A favorite when Artesia dropped from 4A to 3A and rolled them in a pre-district game, I think in Albuquerque. But check me on this, that was a while back. We had a war with them in a muddy/soggy/slippery Bulldog bowl on Thanksgiving weekend in 1984. The same day Doug Flutie threw the pass. We won that one 9-7, in the Slot T.

Whenever St Pius has success the publicity in Albuq dwarfs anything RR gets. If they pull an upset tomorrow (wont happen) the local sportcast and Journal will go crazy. I looked at the schedule again for STP and it isnt close to the difficulty of Artesia's.
LCH vs RR - This would be a hard game to win even if the Rams were full strenght but without Foley and Hermans they will be the underdog for sure. These things tend to even out, last year they had no signigicant injuries. Will keep you updated on the game Randall, probably listen on the radio and watch AF on ESPN2, srthritis causing problems, getting old!!

I'm ready for some playoffs! I'll be streaming online hopefully. Cdel I don't think that's the case tomorrow since it is a NMAA playoff game its prohibited, unless they are doing the stream themselves on those you have to pay like $8 to get access to it. Check this site www.nfhsnetwork.com/home don't see anything yet though. Audio stream should be there but no video from KSVP. Supposed to be a cold one tomorrow high of 48 degrees.

Thanks. 1974 was the first meeting. Score was 48-0. Dogs I think shut out everyone in district that year on the way to the championship.

Good luck today Bulldogs, that other roswell team got bounced last night, pretty lousing showing on their part, that's what happens when you don't have the right guy leading the charge anymore. Coyotes got the best in the District now, going to dominate in Hoops and Football, The Red Sea will see you soon.
