I think it made a huge difference when we lost #54 MLB. They had not scored before that point. I love that we can still win when not playing our best game though. dEfense got a stop and the offense went to work, scored when they had too. great play byy #20 and the offense ran out the clock. Entertaining game!

Still wished the Bulldogs did the whole firework deal. Seemed to be a major home field advantage environment. Felt like that was starting to be part of the mystique of Bulldog Bowl. Any chance of them coming back?

I believe the game is Saturday at 1:00 pm. That's what Brienne Green tweeted earlier and what MaxPreps shows now.

I asked about the low snaps a couple of weeks ago. I think the center is doing better but it is down to the nitty gritty beginning next. The 'dogs need to bring it up a notch with less mistakes. PV is really a 6A team, need to beat PV. The offense was flat all through the game. I was looking for a win with 14 plus points. Go 'dogs beat PV

Hey Agent orange,,,,Glad you enjoyed my attempt at dry humor,,,LOL,,,but I AM very concerned with the perceived premonition of a huge loss due to our "taking a knee from the Shotgun" as well as running with the ball like a loaf of bread,,,,I sure wish Coach would cease trying to make the games so exciting by allowing these hair raising issues to continue. I just finished reading his comments in the Sunday paper bout "continually working to improve our mistakes" so,,,,maybe he IS reading our suggestions,,,,LOL "Who let the Dogs Out" was a great fan motivator in the Bowl as it reinforced who we are as Bulldogs fans. It was just SO moving to watch the home crowd come alive and even make a few dance moves and,,,, " BE PROUD of the team's accomplishments. The Ex-football players I have talked to all felt a sense of pride in having been a part of that,!! I for one would like to see thet little "Motorvator" come back.

The NMAA was on the money as far as the first four seeds. The first four are in the semi finals. They did a good job.

I was asked a question at work and I was hoping someone might know the answer. How many times have the Bulldogs football team made the playoffs in the last 40 years or a easier answer may be how many times have they not made the playoffs in that many years.

I know they did not make it to the post-season in '95. I think they were licking wounds after getting beat by Lovington (Brian Urlacher's senior year) and got beat by Portales. Won state the next 3 years though

Well that didn't turn out like I expected. I do truly wish you Bulldogs luck, I'm am seriously Red with Envy of your program and do believe Roswell High is on it's way again and Lynn will prove to be the next great coach in this district.
Beat the Piss out of the Panthers for me, how ironic Artesia will likely have to beat 2 future 6A teams to get their title this year. See ya next time.

How many times have the Bulldogs football team made the playoffs in the last 40 years or a easier answer may be how many times have they not made the playoffs in that many years. Since Artesia dropped to a lower classification in 1974 we have missed the playoffs five times (1979, 1988, 1989, 1995 & 2000).
The playoff system in New Mexico was started in 1953, we have been in the playoffs 47 out of the 62 years, more than any other school in the state.
The Bulldogs have a 86-18-2 record (as of last week) in the playoffs, a winning percentage of 83%.
The Bulldogs have only SIX home playoff losses since 1954.
Artesia has appeared in 32 State Championship games since 1953, that is 52% of the Championship games.
Since 1950, Artesia has won 872 games (as of last week), the most in the state.

I hope this help a little bit... The Artesia's football program has earned 36 district title and 28 State Championships, The Bulldogs hold state records for the most years in the playoffs as well as the most playoff wins.

Your phrasing about Coach Lynn was much better and I don't necessarily disagree. He has already improved RHS up this point. Actually, I hope Roswell does continue to get better, it can't do anything but help our district in the seeding process. I would like to get back to the days where the top two teams are from this district every year.

I'm pretty sure I remember as a very small child watching a heavily favored St. Pius team get destroyed by the 1974 version of Artesia Bulldogs by a score of something like 48-0. If I am thinking of the right team, they were the 3A favorite when Artesia dropped from 4A to 3A and rolled them in a pre-district game, I think in Albuquerque. But check me on this, that was a while back. We had a war with them in a muddy/soggy/slippery Bulldog bowl on Thanksgiving weekend in 1984. The same day Doug Flutie threw the pass. We won that one 9-7, in the Slot T. I remember watching that game TF, it was a great defensive battle (back in black). Was that the game Brent Payne ran the quick slant for 50+ yards/ was it the semi's or the State game? Noonrod22

Hey buddy, It was actually the quarterfinals. Our trek in the playoffs was Bloomfield, St. Pius, Ruidoso then Aztec. It was the closest game we had and they were definitely the 2nd best team that year. We ran our fullback, Felix "Boy" Garcia, all night because they couldn't stop the trap, and because well, he was a tough sucker. Still we had a hard time scoring. We scored a TD and a safety. It was really wet. The defense was awesome that night. The quick slant you are referring to was against Aztec on the first play of the game. But it was Robby Ballew to Wayne Vinson, if I remember right. The Albuquerque Journal said we couldn't do two things on Aztec, throw the ball and run up the middle. We did both.

TF,
Those were some great games that we watched you guys play in (Robbie,Boy, Jeff S., Shawn S., Roy, you) too many to mention. We had some great defenses back then and some hard nose runners. Hey I mentioned your pops name in a post earlier today on the youth program forum. You know everyday I think about my pops and wish he was here, but I know I'm not the only one that thinks about your dad often as well. I moved back to Artesia as my 10 yr old and 6 yr old boy have that orange blood and fever in them. You still in Plains or did I see clearly that your now in Andrews?

The thing I remember about that 9-7 win over Pius in the Bowl was that the Sartans had a honcho running back named Scott Howard. Late in the game, Pius was backed up deep in its own territory and Artesia sent some LB named Tom Harvey in on a stunt. He tackled Howard in the end zone for the safety.
This probably was before they started using OT, so if the game had ended in a 7-7 tie, they might've had to go through all those different tiebreakers (penetrations, first downs, total yardage, etc.) to decide the winner.
I also think Pius was unbeaten coming in. Right after the game, I went into the Bulldog coaches' office to peek through the blinds on the door to the visiting locker room because I wanted to see the Pius players' reactions to losing. I did see some helmets thrown around. They were mighty upset.
Broke my heart.
