Ok, if Coach Henderson had 41 wins at Ruidoso from 84-88 (ask Coach Willingham he probably knows since he was playing from 84-86 The won/loss record from 1989-2015 247-87-0 at Artesia. I have a copy of every record and score since 1953-2010. My other source is New Mexico High School Football www.nmhsfb.comso 288 wins didn't know anything about vacated wins...A more relevant for record for Coach Henderson and the Artesia Bulldogs is playoffs. 55-9-0 (and just a couple of trophies)! Cooper Fan mentioned forfeited games (vacated wins) earlier in this thread, but I had never heard of any vacated wins. But the funny thing is, I guy I work with mentioned vacated wins earlier this week when we were talking about Coach Henderson's retirement. I didn't press him it, or inquire about what he meant.......I just kind of let it go. Who knows, maybe he read it on here, lol. Does anybody on here know anything about this?

I believe this to be true. I heard about it probably 10-15 years ago due to a clerical error when someone transferred to AHS. Not sure but I thought it involved 1 or 2 games and not an entire season.

Boy for being know it alls I'm surprised you guys don't remember this. There was a player who had a grade that made him ineligible. We had to forfeit 8 games. It was a miss by the registrar or counselor. I don't remember which one missed it in determining eligibility. By the way the athlete was a good kid just failed in the classroom. Actually was one our better players in the program.
Not Saying year or the player's name out of respect.

according to today's paper 4 current artesia coaches have applied for the job. Surely the names of all applicants will eventually be released, right? I think it will be interesting to see who all puts in for this job. I would like to see who all applied in-state, but not from Artesia.....Ocampo maybe.....I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he throws his hat in the ring. Also would like to see who applies from out-of-state. There is always some hot-shot junior high coach from Houston or DFW who thinks he has what it takes to be a head coach in NM...LOLOLOL. Having said all of that, I am not the LEAST bit deluded that this job will go to anybody not currently on the Artesia staff. But then I think back to the Barry Coffman fiasco, and it makes me shudder......surely they won't do something like THAT again.

Lot's of times it comes down to finding the right fit. Ocampo I'm sure is a great coach. But who fits Artesia. If their blood isn't already orange, IMO, it won't be a good fit. Two of those in-house applicants have 15ish years a piece in Artesia. Another grew up in Artesia, left to college and came back, Those three are solid. No idea who #4 is. I really doubt there are very many applicants. Coach Henderson did a good job of discouraging that. I suspect there are Bulldogs coaching in other places who are interested. But as one Scott Runyan recently told me, "Who would want to follow that?"

Would Rex Henderson (Butch's son) be a viable replacement for his uncle?

Of the 4 in house I would have to assume it's Rex Henderson, Willingham, Bowden not sure who the other might be maybe Jeff Houghtaling or one of the younger coaches.
Rowlettdog I've got to assume that last name Henderson carries a lot of weight, Coach Henderson said he would remove himself from interviews if family applied. If they asked for Coach Henderson opinion on the matter, gotta believe he thinks he's the one for the job, keep it in the family. Just my 2 cents.
I just hope they pick the best man for the job, regardless of family or ties and that maybe rex henderson who knows. Good luck to all and may the best man win.

I think it was Willingham, Rex Henderson, Maupin,(?). I will say this rather boldly and feel free to disagree you won't hurt my feelings. They will give it to a really strong coach and there will be strong coaches who don't get it. Better sweeten the pot and help the lucky new head coach keep his staff intact. I hate to think of the fallout if either Willingham, Maupin or Henderson leaves. I talk to Willingham daily and can say that his opinion of the other two is extremely high.

According to NMPreps this morning, Rex Henderson was named head coach of the Bulldogs. The Henderson Legacy lives on.
