48-14 Final. Artesia gets #30 and Rex Henderson gets his 1st. I’ll have some highlights in a day or two for you guys. What a day. Highlight video should most definitely include that "tomahawk chop" that stripped the ball from the Belen ball carrier early in the second half! Was it Denver Williams that made that play? It happened over on the visitor's sideline, on the north end of the field. Man, that was a thing of beauty!!! That was the turning point of the game in my opinion! Belen ball carrier was racing down the sideline and had a clear path to the endzone, THEN a Bulldog tackler, fast approaching from behind, raises his arm HIGH in the air and arm comes slashing downward sending the ball bouncing along the turf. FUMBLE!!!!!! BULLDOGS RECOVER!!!!!! As soon as I saw that big Orange arm raised high in the air I knew that the ball was as good as ours! I turned to my Dad who was sitting next to me and told him......."That was the play of the game right there!" That strip was the stuff that NFL highlight reels are made of!

It was awesome Agent Orange, Mr. Williams stopped the Eagles chance of a comeback single handed (3 turnovers). The Dogs won as a team as always, but Denver was the MVP or co-MVP with Taylor Null and Robert Fernandez. Defense wins championships sometimes.

Yeah I got it, couldn't figure out if it was a touchdown or not when it happened. He was definitely an MVP of the game, 3 turnovers in 1 game, 2 against Farmington and 2 against Pius he elevated his game to a another level in the playoffs. Null was great too, just an all around dominate team on both sides of the ball. This team was 3 points shy of breaking the scoring record of 2007. They tore through the playoffs 142-50, we had no competition in 5A this year, way too strong for anyone. Fixing to post the Highlights, I'll post it in it's own thread.

Impressive! I understand how emotions can run high and cause a young player to make a bad decision but the ability to recognize that decision was bad and then publically correct/apologize for that decision is impressive.

What did he do? I saw a few unsportsmanlike plays from Belen but never saw the number. Was it one particular example? Either way, very humble and classy of him to apologize. He's a real good player.

He was mad because of the fumble and he did not walk in line to Congratulate the Bulldogs. Yes it takes a big person to man up to his mistakes. But I bet you didn't see a Bulldog not congratulate St. Pius last year. If a person plays sports you know you are not going to win every game in your life. I just think this was bad sportsmanship on his part. My 2 cents.

He did presumably write an apology letter on Facebook, NMAA FB

I bet dad set him straight and hence the apology.
Ah no biggie to me, young men, going to make mistakes, even us old men still make mistakes lol.

I noticed that he did not walk the line and mentioned this to my Son. We watched Diego stay on their sideline. But this was NOT the only display of bad sportsmanship that I noticed. The announcer had to announce TWICE for both teams to go to their 40 yard lines for presentation of the NMAA trophies. The Bulldogs were already there but the Belen players AND THEIR COACHES stayed in a tight group on the sideline,,,!!! Finally, after the announcer said the second time,, ONE of their players shuffeled out to meet the trophy presenter, who was already walking over toward the Belen team. The young man then walked back to the group, which just stood there. I fully understand the heartbreak of losing such a big game, and this does not show good character OR Sportsmanship on the part of their coaching staff. I think Diego showed great character in publicly apologizing for his mistake,,he did have a ton of pressure on his shoulders!!

I think he showed a lot of character/class with the letter. I was there and I don't think the game was close. I can't see making the mistake of thinking 1 fumble was the deciding factor. There were 3 factors in my mind, not wanting to start a debate. The factors to me were 1) two platooning system, 2) speed 3) coaching. Don't take the coaching comment as a slap against the Belen coaches. They haven't been there long enough to have made the impact. Artesia has had only minor changes to the system in 30 years. I think Belen was well-coached too. Although I would have never whined about the noise.

Artesia did have too much speed. I noticed that immediately watching the highlights.

I'm a firm believer in the two platoon system. A great two platoon system will defeat a good One Man Show pretty much 9 15/16 times out of ten. Their #45 was a hard runner for sure but was obvious towards the final quarter that he was very tired from all the tackles he had taken. He 's liable to be a handful again next year.

Say Guys,,,I'm curious about others take on an item that has been irking me for the last 5 years or so. At the State Game against Centennial, we did not get to buy a program and several Artesia Fans around us were upset as well. Sometime during the second half, we notice some people did have programs and after asking,, we find out you have to go to the Home side where NMAA had set up ONE Booth. Most of the folks stated they were NOT going to walk all the way over there so,,,no programs or memorabilia,,,, Flash forward to last year,,,the NMAA booth did not open their booth till sometime after game started,,and the concession lines were sooooo very long,,so again No program,,!! Since I cannot walk near as far as I used to,,,,I go in the North East gate,, which incidently is where as many as 70% of Artesia fans get in thru, after parking at the BIG Church parking lot north of the Bowl. AGAIN,,,no NMAA booth on our side. My Son, had come in thru the East gate about 12:10 and he told me there was no NMAA booth set up yet, but looked like there was a Belen Booth selling Belen Stuff,,?? All thru the game I saw a total of 2 people with programs and NOBODY with NMAA Memorabilia,,,!! I have visited with Dusty Young at NMAA on this and he is as frustrated as I am with the contractor responsible and is going to address at next contract date coming up. NMAA is losing some serious dollars on this issue, and I believe some of that money goes back to the host school. Does anybody have attendance figures for the game,,

Agent Orange: what is the capacity for Bulldog bowl? It certainly looked to be at capacity and then some this past Saturday. My guess is around 8,000
Do any of you all know what was the largest crowd ever for a Bulldog game? I'd doubt if there is an official number, but it would be neat to hear stories, see pics, etc... of some of the bigger crowds. I recall hearing stories from Mr. Pitch and others about games in the 70's where people were sitting on the grass berms and the place was packed.... Hobbs and Carlsbad games I believe I was told.

The stadium was packed out Saturday. Extra bleachers brought in and not a seat in the house with no room on the rail all the way around and people standing behind them and on the track in places. Still, the mid 70's Carlsbad crowds were massive. Not sure.

I asked a friend of mine, his mom the secretary at the athletic office. She might have a good idea or guess
I'd say 8,000 at least. See if I can get more info.

Bowl Capacity is 6,500 in the stands.
Secretary said 5,500 tickets were sold, that includes online. That doesn't count, players, coaches, band, cheerleaders, police people like that.
I think at best 6,500 total there. that maybe over shooting it a little but that's the best guess we can come up with.
