What teams are scheduled for the dogs next year? I understand Cleveland is not on the schedule, what school is taking the storms place?

What? Not Ruidoso. I would hope that it would be another Albuquerque school, Ruidoso? Please...

Ruidoso? Heck, why not just schedule Capitan, Jal, or Hagerman?
Why the heck are we weakening our pre-district schedule? Just a few short years ago we were playing Clovis and Cruces. Have we forgotten the philosophy that playing a brutal pre-district schedule toughens you up and gets you ready for district?

Well one those Albuquerque schools are gonna have trouble scheduling that deep into there schedule cause if there bigger districts now. They start way earlier then we will. Plus they don’t have money to travel here from what I hear. Second I don’t think the coach’s have much of a choice if I remember correctly you stick a post on nmaa saying you need a game on this date and see who bites. If Ruidoso is the only team that has the guts to play the bulldogs then so be it. Sucks cause like they said the tougher the opponent the better the dogs get.

The problem is not the coaches. We had to drop Clovis because of redistricting. Cleveland had to drop us because of redistricting. Albuquerque Schools have to really fight to get to play us. Most are 6A and their AD will not allow them to play a school in a lower class. Manzano did it cause the coach at the time fought for it tooth and nail.
For someone to accuse our coaches of scheduling down is just down right a slap in the face of the program. Scheduling for us is the toughest in the state. Not everyone wants to play Artesia. We want to play the Las Cruces' and Mayfields of the world but it is hard to make it happen. Las Cruces had to drop us because of their district getting huge.
We have a big disadvantage because of our small district. Trying to schedule in October is tough with everyone in district play already. The only thing that could help is there are a few schools playing independent this coming year. Albuquerque High is one and the others are Rio Grande and maybe Santa Fe High. Not sure about Santa Fe High. But do we really want to play Rio Grande or Albuquerque high??? Ruidoso it is!!!

So we keep the Cleveland game, and we dropped Los Lunas for Ruidoso?

RR already plays a tough schedule but I would like to see a home and home started back up, still remember the Landry Jones game in 2006! Pretty sure the Rams would play them tougher than than that night.

Good looking schedule. Would like to see Lovington and Ruidoso not on there but it makes a good balance to help get better.

Been awhile since we played Ruidoso, 2001 with Artesia winning 49-14, that may have been about the time Coach Bowden arrived there and we dropped the series, I"m guessing. I guess that's why we dropped Los Lunas with Maupin there? Mike we dropped Rio Rancho 1 season after Worley was there. I guess that's Artesia code of conduct Belen and Cleveland tough games, isn't it strange the game is in Rio Rancho again next year ?

Usually play an opponent at home one year and away the next year......or visa-versa. Oh well, at least we still have 5 home and 5 away.

Why is the state game scheduled so early in December this year? That moves the season opener up a week as well. It's bad enough starting the season the last weekend in August, now it's the next-to-last weekend in August.
Nothing like playing in an oven, even at night, unless you open up at Ruidoso.

Usually play an opponent at home one year and away the next year......or visa-versa. Oh well, at least we still have 5 home and 5 away. This just means the two schools renewed the contract. Usually happens every two years, for an additional 2 years. My guess is we wanted to be 5-5 home/away instead of 6/4 this year and 4/6 next year so we asked to flip it. This isn't real common but not unheard of. It very well may have been Cleveland asking for the same reason. In the end there will always be 1 home and 1 away, then they decide again if they want to continue playing and do it all over again. Also looking at the schedule in 2019 it would have created a brutal 3 week road trip of Belen, Deming, Rio Rancho back to back to back.

I’ve heard one of the main reasons we are playing @ Cleveland this year is to break up what would have been that brutal three away games.

The Cleveland situation all makes sense now, thanks guys! I never would have even seen that brutal 3 game road trip coming, glad somebody did.

Last years three game road trip to Deming Cleveland and Los Lunas logged in over 1500 miles in that three week span. Think it will be better for the dogs plus people are saying why scheduling Lovington and Ruidoso that there not in the same class but Lovington was much improved and Ruidoso is last years state champs. Gonna be fun to renew this rivalry.
