Glad to see Santa Fe High Demons, my wife's high school alma mater win. They needed to win. I understand they are or will be a 5A team. I remember writing to the powers of redistricting and asking to consider placing Santa Fe in 5A, they were not competing well in 6A. I got a message from them that the school's population was too large and needed to be a 6A school

Santa Fe is a legal 5A team. Before Coach Martinez took over the program they would get maybe 40 players out for football. Turnover almost yearly in Coaches and Head Coach. Coach Martinez won several State Titles at St Mikes as DC. He took over program last year that had not won a game at any level in 3 1/2 years. He had 50 kids. He started a year round weight program, He started with changing the culture and changing how the players played simple fundamentals. This year they have 80 kids out for Football. Of those 80 kids 13 are Juniors or Seniors. They are starting many Freshmen and Sophomores. Their JV is 2-0 after beating Robertson and Moriarity. Coach Martinez has a focus of being better and building good Young Men for the future. He and some great Towns Folks have raised money to feed about 10 players each day who live in abject poverty. I am very proud of where this program is going . Coach Martinez just happens to be my Son in Law. By the way he expects 100 players next year

Las Cruces schools are done with the way the demographics are changing in the area. Ce tennis has all the athletes. Times are a changing. Metro area is where the athletes are now. Reminds me of West Texas and how the Metroplex is where the athletes are now. You will not see Permian as the hunted any more. Same for Mayfield and Las Cruces High. Participation numbers are down. Again demographics are changing.

How bout that charliedog, I was speaking with my mother in law and she was saying she knows coach Martinez, they are cousins. She knows about his work at St. Michaels and now at Santa Fe high. My mother in law was excited about Santa Fe winning there last game. So,coach Martinez and my wife are cousins. What a small world.
