probably so crispy, he would have got a call back to the steelers last year with all the Qb injuries they had, but he was under contract with XFL by then and no guarantee they would have offered him a contract either, but it was a chance again, most likely his best chance since he was familiar with them and their system.
If that's it, it was a hell of a run for a small town kid from Artesia. #7 All time NCAA Touchdown Passes, #3 in Passing Yardage, pretty nice thing to hang you're hat on.

Now,,I Know why I ain't a nfl coach,,,chit!! With all those records he set at OU,,,,one would of thought that Landry would of placed much higher his first elgible year in the nfl. Not making any excuses but having to play behind Ben R was a big thing to get around,,(no pun intended)

Wow, what a night to remember! Artesia Bulldog football LIVE telecast on ESPNU in front of a NATIONAL audience! I was at this game, as was everybody else within 50 miles. Bulldog Bowl was sold out......standing room only.....and there was very little room to stand, at that! Those Bulldog football players hearts must have been beating 150 beats per minute......and their adrenaline levels completely through the roof.....when they exited the locker room and headed down the ramp, and looked up and saw all of those ESPN TV cameras on top of the pressbox.....on top of the field house.....ESPN cameras on both sidelines....and in both endzones! Americans from California to New York, and from the southern tips of Texas and Florida all the way up to the Canadian border got a taste of what Bulldog football was like that night. I was at the game, and it really did have a "big-time" feel to it. It was almost surreal! Like something out of a dream!
And I remember how distraught I was because I had the el-cheapo cable plan from Penasco Valley Telecommunications (PVT) that did NOT include ESPNU. I wanted to record the game, while I was at the game, but it appeared that it would be "no dice" because my plan did not include ESPNU. But from what I remember, PVT came through like a champ! They pumped ESPNU into every household in the Artesia area.....maybe for that game only......REGARDLESS of whether you had ESPNU on your plan, or not......at NO CHARGE! PVT made sure that every Bulldog fan got to see the live broadcast even if you had the el-cheap plan. My hat's off to them for that!!! And no, I do NOT work for PVT.....nor do I have any family members that do, lol. So I set up my DVR to record the game, then I went to Bulldog Bowl and took in the whole live experience! Then after the game I came home and watched the game again on DVD with the professional ESPN announcers doing the play-by-play and the color commentary. The whole thing was just surreal! A truly magical experience!

Yep,,that young man sure did his part in making all us armchair Quarterbacks so proud,!! I remember our oldest son, was credited with the many communications he made in getting ESPN to come to Artesia. I sure would like to have a copy of that Artesia Daily Press article.

Artesia beat the of the Chris Williams led RR Rams on ESPN, I believe it was in 2005 when Landry was a Soph. I didn't start following the Rams until the next year, do you have any highlights of the 2005 game Randall? If I have the year wrong let me know.

Albuquerque Journal reports it was on September 11, 2004, Mike. Jeremy Maupin was Artesia QB. Hopefully there's some highlights

Yeah, you are correct Randall. I remember that game vs RR, in 2004 I believe. ESPN didn't show the entire game, they just showed highlights from SEVERAL different high school games that night, mostly when coming out of a commercial break. They showed clips from several different HS football games that night. And from what I remember, they only showed ONE clip from Artesia vs RR, and that was a clip of Chris Williams running rampant through the Artesia defense....and making the Artesia defense look just silly. I remember that it really ticked me off, because Artesia won the game....yet that was the only clip they showed, lol.
