56-35 final. 1st half was perfect. 2nd half seem like our old self, 35 points to a running team. like to see them finish them off strong, keep that momentum going into next week. but they do win and advance to face #2 Los Lunas next week. Good job securing the win tonight never the less. I read on facebook just a few minutes ago that the 2nd team.....back-ups.......played the entire 2nd half. Guy that posted that is a huge Bulldog fan who posts on here pretty regularly, should know what he's talking about. If that is indeed the case, then I have no problem giving up all those points in the 2nd half. Starters still held them scoreless for 3 quarters.....I'm happy with that. Let them get their points against our 2nd team.

Capital had 21 points in the 3rd quarter. some Backups in on offense, I recall a lot of first team D still in there, besides cox who went to QB, some subbing in and out on D later on in the game it appeared, but I'm fairly certain a lot of the 1st team still in there, anyone correct me if I'm off.

just one nit pick, Bulldogs came out fired up to play and had a good game, they all deserve credit. Just going to have to put full 4 quarters next week, with a hope to advance once again. I'm rooting for them. We should enjoy this win tonight for sure.
and hey 4 of 8 playoff teams left are from district 4. Artesia, Alamo, Goddard, Roswell

Oh, OK! Then I stand corrected. Did not watch or listen to the game. Just checked the final score on MaxPreps after the game was over. The box score on MaxPreps shows that all of Capital's points came in the 4th quarter.

Well,,I was so very IMPRESSED with the way the defense held their vaunted running back to so few yards and NO TD's in the first half,,!! Even the announcers from Santa Fe were commenting about the Bulldog defense "SWARMING" their runners,,EVERY play. Our Offense was even better,,,there HAS to be some Div 1 schools looking at that young man,,,!! WOW,,!! Are them Dogs ready for Los Lunas,,,, ,,,,,,,,,,I think they are Bulldog Nation,,I think they are,,,,,,,,,

How many yards and touchdowns did that Padilla kid end up with last night?

According to the Santa Fe New Mexican Padilla had 220 yards. The head lines say, "Artesia Tsunami sinks Jaguars ". Maybe Agent Orange can upload the article on this board?

www.santafenewmexican.com/sports/artesia-tsunami-sinks-jaguars-in---rout/article_7ffe4d9d-a286-5a68-a717-e73fb31bc005.htmlWhen the dust settles on the 2019 high school football season, reflective types might well remember the Artesia Bulldogs as perhaps the best No. 10 seed in the history of the Class 5A state playoffs. Arguably one of the top teams in its classification all season, they slipped into the realm of double-digit seed by virtue of an upset loss to Alamogordo in the final week of the regular season. It took all of 10 minutes of Friday night’s playoff opener at Jaguar Field for the Bulldogs to prove they were vastly underrated. They scored four times in their first 10 offensive plays and rolled to a 56-35 win at Capital, ending the Jaguars’ promising season a little sooner than some probably expected. Artesia advances to next week’s state quarterfinals at No. 2 Los Lunas. Seeded No. 7 after five shutouts in nine games, and an undefeated run through district play, Capital (6-4) was simply no match for the Artesia offensive machine in the first half. Bulldogs quarterback Clay Houghtaling was incredible, completing all 13 of his pass attempts for 331 yards and six touchdowns. He opened the game with a 62-yard touchdown pass just 16 seconds into the first quarter, then followed it with scoring passes of 22, 5, 28, 5 and 56 yards as the Bulldogs opened a commanding 43-0 lead at halftime. “We can’t simulate that kind of offense in practice,” Capital head coach Bill Moon said. “We just can’t.” Houghtaling did have one incomplete pass, a bullet throw that went through his receiver’s hands in the second quarter. It was immediately nullified on a pass interference penalty against his own man. “When you run into a tsunami, if you float back to the top, you just gotta start swimming, and that’s pretty much what did it,” Moon said. “I told these guys before the game that each one of these teams is going to try and break the other one’s soul in the first quarter.” Moon said the Jaguars simply got caught up in the moment, that part of the season where playoff pressure meets the intimidating factor of playing an Artesia program that has won 30 state championships, has an army of support personnel — like a sideline flat-screen TV to instantly allow the players to dissect plays the moment they leave the field — and the intangibles of such as the pregame Dog Pile and depth of running 11 players onto the field for offense and 11 others on defense. It wasn’t until halftime that the Jaguars finally got the message that all it takes is one play at a time to build confidence. “A lot was said in the locker room,” running back Gio Muñoz said. “We were way down, but [the] coaches said to play with heart, to keep fighting.” With Artesia’s starters riding the bench for the second half, Capital was able to mount some offense. Muñoz finished the game with 101 yards rushing and a touchdown while fellow running back Luke Padilla had 210 yards and two scoring runs. Moon lauded his players for coming out and continuing to work hard in the second half. “The game had kind of gotten away from us at that point, but it gave us something to build on because, let’s face it, this is a team with a lot coming back next year,” he said. Only two seniors started on offense while three did so for the defense. It makes the 2020 campaign that much brighter. “If we’re not in this same position again this time next year, I’d be shocked,” Moon said. “We’ve been here now. We’ve seen it. We’ve lived in the moment, and had some good things happen. We can used that in the next nine months to get ready to come back out here next year and see where we can take it.” Capital’s other second-half touchdowns came on short runs by quarterback Manuel Vargas and fullback Sean Ulibarri. All told, the Jaguars had 335 yards offense; all but eight of them coming in the rushing category. Artesia had 499 yards of total offense. Even backup quarterback Cord Cox got into the act, completing five of his seven passes for 45 yards and a touchdown. Houghtaling and Cox had seven scoring passes between them with an eighth touchdown coming on a kickoff return by Erik Cueto in the second half. “I mean, they’re a good team, but we’ll be back,” Munoz said. “You learn from things like this, you know?” GAME NOTES Capital was not called for a penalty until the second half. … Padilla had 33 carries, finishing a stellar junior season with 1,842 yards rushing. He was one of nine Jaguars named to the All-District 2/6-5A team, which will be formally announced Saturday. … Capital has now finished at or above .500 in five of the last six seasons.

Well all I know is the Carlsbad paper and the Santa Fe paper as well as my eyes tell me the Artesia starters were on the bench in the second half. We never 50 pt anyone because our philosophy is to play the other kids and get them some experience. It is the right thing to do. This game was never in doubt, yet there are people posting here and on FB that this wasn’t good enough! If we would have known last week we would win 56-35 every single one of you would have been thrilled! This team played the best game they have played in weeks and I am proud of them. As to the second half, we had a KO return for a TD and the second team offense scored a TD!

I know what you mean jades, I see what those papers say, but the 2nd half the defensive starters were still in minus cord, 2nd team offense was definitely in listen on the ksvp audio, joby and robbie confirm it, I went back to listen to it last night, unfortunately can't watch the replay on NFHS. guys making the tackles in 2nd half are starters. livestream.com/ksvptv/events/8791670/videos/198736764Listen at 2:34:18 after we try the fake punt, and defense comes back out Joby says 1st string D is still out there, not a big deal but just trying to put out what actually happened. It was a good win and like you said I'd take a 56-35 win anytime.

Remember our defense is young, they might have been playing the starting underclassmen and the seniors out. I don’t know for sure but I don’t remember seeing Knowlton out there in the second half. My main point is we won and we could have 50 pointed them and went home and the coaches that have been taking a lot of criticism did what was best for the long term program instead of having an early night. These kids proved to NM they belonged! One game at a time, do your best, anything can happen now!!

Knowlton did not play the entire game. There were 3-4 defensive starters in during the 2nd half. That was it. I was there. My son plays.
There were a couple of starters in on offense in the 2nd half. That’s it.
This win gave players who don’t get to play, including seniors, a chance to play in a playoff game.
Let’s be proud of the players, coaches and who we are! Support the team this week and show up in Los Lunas next week! The boys need the community to get behind them.

Last night needed to be a statement game and it was, until the second half came around. The boys needed that win last night for many many reasons! Me personally, I wanted to go for the kill shot. Get these boys prepped for 0-0. Hold them, let’s score and go home. If the first D was still out there after half time why are we still losing the adjustment battle? (Just asking because it’s what we do here. For one half of football we were the best defense in the state). We know the other team is making changes. Where is the Defense intensity after half time? We will have to bring it all 4 quarters against coach Maupin and the Tigers.

It's good that those who contribute so much in practice got in to play.
I saw a lot of new energy in the boys and coaches this week.
This is a good start to finish out the season 4-0.
