OK, 2 questions actually. Not that anybody will know the answer to these questions, so I guess they are rhetorical in a way. Just asking them to put a bug in somebody's ear, you know, to twist a finger so to speak.
Our brand new press box is awesome but I have noticed that there are a couple of things that are sadly missing. Just wondering if anybody knows when the corrections will be made.
#1.........Here we are just 2 weeks away from the start of the season and there is still no football on the press box with the number 10 on it representing the state title that the boys won LAST year. Those kids worked hard for that 2010 title, and they deserve to have their dang football on the dang press box! Especially last year's seniors! Just wondering if anybody knows what the holdup is. The "powers that be" need to get on it!
#2.........Once again, the "powers that be" did a wonderful thing when they honored former Artesia Mayor Ernest Thompson by proclaiming our old press box "Ernest Thompson Press Box". There was even a sign on the front of the old press box proclaiming it as "Earnest Thompson Press Box". There is NO such acknowledgment or honor on the front of the NEW press box. Mayor Thompson was mayor of Artesia for over 25 years! He had more positive influence on The City Of Champions than probably anybody in our history. He was also a HUGE Bulldog Fan and was very involved in the lives of the kids who played here, and also in the football program in general. Mayor Thompson deserves to be recognized on the front of the NEW press box as well! Trust me when I tell you that I am not the only one who has noticed this. This needs to happen? Once again, anybody know what the hold up is?

Question #2 There is a plaque in the reserved section I believe that honors Mayor Ernest Thompson now, like Ernest Thompson reserved seating or something of that nature, I saw it not that long ago and it's a nice touch to honor him since the old press box is gone.

Ok I got the answer for question #1
They will wait till December to paint the football's on the press box because then when can get a multi football discount by painting 2. lol jk
It'll get done though sooner or later, there is still construction going on at the bowl for the girls dressing room, that looks to still have a long way to go before it will be completed, that's going to be fun to get around once the season starts. Plus school has gotten off to a much earlier start than in past years, it's Aug 11 and the first day of school is already done, football and workouts are pushed up because of that as well so it really shortens the summer time for everyone. As I said though not really sure on the answer but that could have something to do with it. They have closed the #1 sign on top of the press box so I'm sure it came up to paint the football about that time too.
Either way the 2010 State Championship belongs to Artesia forever, nobody can take that away, and in time that football will be up there with the rest.

I'm wondering why the tower west of town doesn't have the last 5 years of championships on it?

Thanks for the info Randall! Yeah, I knew the football would be up there eventually, and you're right, the state title is ours whether the football is there or not. I'm just use to seeing the new ones put up within a few months and was wondering why so late this time. So they are going to start PAINTING them up there instead of hanging them huh? So I guess that means that all of the other footballs up there will be coming down as well, all the way back to 1957? Cool! I wonder what will happen to the old footballs. I don't know what they will do with them, but I think the one with the "75" on it would look great on my living room wall.
And thanks also for the info on The Earnest Thompson Press Box. It's nice to know about the plaque. I didn't know about it because I have never been up there. Had a chance to watch a game from one of the boxes last year on a group deal, but I turned it down. I had rather sit in the stands. If the opportunity ever presents itself again I may have to take advantage of it, just to know what its like and to be able to say that I did it.

I'm wondering why the tower west of town doesn't have the last 5 years of championships on it? Good question! I hadn't noticed. We never go out of town that direction. Seems like it's always to Roswell or Carlsbad, or east to Hobbs, Lovington, or Lubbock. But hardly ever west.

No problem, I'll probably be by the bowl to check on our Internet Stuff before the season officially starts, I'll see if I can get a picture of the Ernest Thompson plaque and post it. Maybe the 2010 football will be up there before the home opener against Hobbs, but BGP you don't want me to paint it on there, painting isn't my specialty lol.

Heard in our morning maintenance meeting that the football should be put up on the press box in the next couple of days. Just waiting to get the equipment rented and brought over to the Bowl.

I guess it is still called Ernest Thompson Press Box, this plaque is on the front of the press box right behind the reserved seating section. And the 2010 Football is up.
