This is Miami not SMU. They won't get the death penalty. I don't know! NCAA President Mark Emmert has said that the death penalty is "on the table". I had always heard that the NCAA would never again invoke the death penalty after what it did to SMU's program, the punishment is just too harsh. Difficult to imagine that SMU was a national power at one time, but I actually remember those great "pony express" teams that were in the running for the national championship every year. But in the case of Miami, I believe that the "willful violators clause" will apply. Pretty good video here, even though you may have to watch a couple of ads before the actual video starts................. aol.sportingnews.com/ncaa-football/story/2011-08-18/report-ncaa-could-invoke-willful-violators-clause-with-miamiAs for me, I don't really care one way or the other what happens to Miami. Now if you had asked me back in the 80s and early 90s my answer would have been totally different. Back then I hated the "U" with a passion. But not so much today. Recently they have just been irrelevant, and I think that is the irony in this whole thing. Make sure you read the article as well. I think Miami may be in a whole lot of trouble.

Hate too say it but I am sure this goes on with just about any college in U.S.A., some just don't get caught!

I agree with BGP, this stuff goes on or has gone on at just about most colleges in the USA.
When SMU got hammered, it easily could have been A&M, Baylor, Texas, Oklahoma, and I could go on and on.... SMU just pissed off the wrong people somehow. Any of you all seen the ESPN documentary Pony Excess?? Good show. I lived through that era and I know several guys that were big time recruits during that time. I've heard the stories and seen the evidence first hand. SMU wasn't the only one cheating. They weren't the only ones caught either. They just happened to be the ones that drew the harshest penalties.
Miami lost institutional control here. It's just the bottom line. They deserve the death penalty in my opinion. The powers to be there either knew what was going on or were stupid. Either way they should go down.
