It's the home opener Friday night at the Bulldog Bowl. Artesia 1-0 will face the Hobbs Eagles who are also 1-0. The Eagles defeated Gadsden 24-21 last week and Artesia defeated Lovington 35-14. Hobbs defeated Artesia for the first time since 2000 in last years 49-48 thriller. If you recall the dogs scored with only a few seconds remaining and lined up to go for 2 and the win but were stuffed by the Eagle Defense to preserve the win. Hobbs RB Reggie Mackey accounted for 248 yards Rushing and 3 td's and was expected to be a key player again for them this year but unexpectedly moved to Deming not long ago and was cleared by the NMAA to play for them, so the dogs will see him again just not as a Hobbs Eagle. Here are the scores from the last 10 years 2010 49-482009 40-72008 27-152007 35-182006 42-32005 57-212004 34-142003 39-202002 52-132001 56-142000 16-40

Yeah, we will see Mackey when we play Deming. That is IF he gets cleared. But Mackey doesn't worry me so much playing for Deming. At least not as much as if he were still playing for Hobbs. In fact, I was kind of worried about the Hobbs game UNTIL I found out Mackey was gone.
I don't think the Deming O-line will be able to open up the running lanes for him like the Hobbs O-line would. Mackey with Hobbs....HUGE threat. Mackey with Deming......not so much.

Just a thought here folks nothing else, but do you think there was some recruiting on Demings part with Mackey? I've always been bothered when people say Artesia recruits. Anyway to reiterate just a thought.

No I don't think so, if it was something like that then why Deming? no offense to them, but Lovington, Goddard or even Artesia are much closer and would be better options for him to showcase his skills and a chance for a state title.
Just something he had to do as I understand, nothing else.

It came a a surprise to us as well. The week of our annual golf tournament was when we recieved word that Reggie was enrolling at DHS.
Samething has been said down here, "why Deming?" My answer to that is just be thankfull it wasn't Mayfield, Las Cruces or Silver.

Mackey wanna be close to his girlfriend in Deming that why he move to Deming. I heard some of the Hobbs players are pretty upset because he left the team. Mackey was their #1 RB, remember last year in Hobbs Artesia had a hard time stopping him. also NNMAA cleared Reggie Mackey to play football for Deming.

Moved for a high school girlfriend? I will be surprised if it will be long lasting. I'd a stayed with my team and friends well as someone said "such is life". I heard in the Abq news he committed to play football at UNM. I wish the lad well.

Yeah I think a bigger deal would have been made of it if he went to Las Cruces or Mayfield, maybe he wouldn't have gotten cleared to play then who knows.

He was in trouble (Mackey) he has no parents and his Grandmother kicked him out of her house. He was living with his girlfriend in Deming. The only way he could play football was to become emancipated. The only eat he could be emancipated and play anywhere was to get married, he had no place to live in Hobbs. I was told this by one of the Hobbs coaches during the 7 on 7 drills against NMMI, they knew then he wasn't coming back. They have been trying since then to try and get him to come back.

Cooper discussed this @ QB Club meeting last night, he had to get married to play in Deming, some rule about if his wife lived in the school district, he could enroll and play. Cooper also asked if we had any girls wanting to get married so we could do some recruiting! LOL

Hobbs has 1 running back that is about 5' tall, with legs that are the size of Earl Campbells. Coach Bowden was pretty impressed with the QB, my nephew, so we will have to introduce # 9 to Mr. Whitmire! LOL

he left for a girlfriend? and committed to unm? those are two commitments you don't make in life. KP doesn't chase women, women chase me and if your going to unm I hope your playing basketball, maybe even my sport baseball, kids these days.
On to my expert analysis-To bad reggie flew the coop cause I say the eagles are in for an ass whooping without him. Dogs better protect the home field, u lose this game just turn in the pads friday night on the way out.
Till next week KP OUT!

Hope you don't have to eat crow Kenny. So it sounds like he got married just to play football, that's crazy, hope it all works out for him though. That's funny what Cooper said lol. Your cold blooded BGP lol, I saw some clips on Hobbs, I was suprised they threw the football a couple times, so he must be pretty good. Copy and paste this in your browser mms://wms2.Hobbsschools.net/eagletv/Football%20vs%20gadsden.wmv Or visit this link and click on the Hobbs Football picture to watch the video of the Eagles vs Gadsden hobbsschools.net/

A Game that seemed to carry on forever, back and forth game and the dogs pour on a couple extra touchdowns at the end to make the final score 45-20.
I'll work on some highlights and should have a video posted tomorrow or Sunday.

Is anyone else who listens in on the radio getting really bad audio? I can BARELY hear Coach Wilburn talking so I have to turn the volume way up, then when a commercial comes on it's ridiculously loud.

LOL the 5ft guy ran hard, he broke a few long runs but then he was out of gas, how tough would they have been with Mackey to spell each other? I'm sure Hobbs fans will wonder what if all year long. BGP your nephew played good, he's got some fire in his eyes, like his unlce lol. Thought they should have let him throw it some more, especially right before half you got 40 seconds and at the opposite end of the field and your still running the ball? easy to second guess from the stands though ha ha. Dogs played well I thought, didn't see the Lovington game but the offense was moving the ball all night, defense got the key turnovers, gave up some long runs at times but stood their ground at times as well. Next week should be an even bigger test.

We didn't make it to the car in time to hear stats. Anyone hear the offense numbers? The boys looked good tonight. Tough running back to tackle.
