Incredible. I think Arreola should have appealed to the NMAA to place Lovington in the 4A district. They were more competitive in football in that district. Crazy

Crazy There enrollment more than places them in 5A though, I've said before I think they were the fastest growing school in the last couple years, they were past due on moving up to 5A. Arreola is Speedy Son in Law, who is the AD in Lovington and Coach Q coached with Speedy, Could be a messy situation over there, maybe it was the Superintendent call though.

It has absolutely nothing to do with how competitive you are in a particular classification, especially when you have the enrollment numbers to be in that classification. Lovington has had the same chance, or opportunity, to be competitive in 5A as any other school currently in 5A.......but for whatever reason, they have just not taken advantage of that opportunity. And that is nobody's fault but their own. It would be like the Santa Fe High Demons saying, hey we suck in 6A (which they do) so we want to move down to 5A where we can be more competitive. It don't work that way.
Edit: It has always been my understanding that you CAN petition to move UP in classification........but not down! For example, if Coach Henderson decided for whatever reason that he wanted to move us up into a district with say...Carlsbad, Clovis, and Hobbs...that would be a possibility even though we don't have enough kids to require us to be in that district. But moving us down into a district with Jal and Eunice, for example, would be a big no-no. I am sure somebody will correct me if I am wrong.

The problem with petitioning up is that someone has to move down. Probably wouldn't be tough to get the last team on the list to move down. There has to be 24 teams in a class. So if someone wants to petition up the team at the bottom of enrollment of that class will be asked to move down.

I was told this was coming and that Lovington had the successor picked while Q was still coaching this past season, though I had never and still don't know who it is, or for that matter if it's true. Dirty pool in the coaching business. The incoming coach will take a pounding from some opposing coaches on principle.

Incredible. Truly political moves. I wish good for Lovington kids.

Hasn't anyone learned from the "Woodson Curse" at NMSU? Force retirement isn't usually the best way to go.

Who's Jack Cisco? Was he an assistant coach? Just wondering... Jack Cisco was the defensive coordinator at Roswell High under Jim Bradley. He eventually became the head coach at Roswell High then retired. He is currently the head coach at Hatch and has done a fantastic job everywhere he has been. His Hatch team this year just dominated everyone they played. Good coach and knows the district well. Several coaches in state applied. Some really good ones. But the top names to apply were Jack Cisco and Speedy Faith. 2 of the top high school coaches in this state. I know there were others but don't know exactly who they were.

I think Cisco is plenty happy where he is and isn't looking to leave Hatch. If I remember correctly Ochoa is a DC over in the DFW area.

OCHOA is an Assistant at Austin Lake Travis who made it to 6A State Title game. His son will be a Senior and is a Big time D-1 recruit at DT. He would take a huge pay cut by going back home and his teaching load would more than double

I think I'd stay where I'm at too if I was him.

Job will be closed to applicants on Jan 20th. There have been interviews and will continue through the end of the week. Expect an announcement sometime next week. Some really good coaches from Arlington Martin and Cedar Hill in the metroplex have applied. Will be interesting to see if the admin decides to bring someone in or just promote someone from within.
