Strength and conditioning, I guess will always be a matter of opinion.... I got more information on the senior leadership program.... Under Cooper they met once a week, under Rex they meet twice per year.... So I’m guessing the program isn’t quite as beneficial these days! Watch the play again.... really only one player had a legitimate shot at the tackle, which was the first defender there -the LB was giving chase from the inside and made an effort diving for the receiver- one safety was being blocked and did a good job getting off the block to even have a chance at the tackle- the last safety met the receiver at the goal line anyway... And I’m assuming your joking that one player doesn’t make a difference? I haven't heard any concrete examples that prove our strength and conditioning has regressed. And your statement on the Senior Leadership is completely false. Speaking with Trent throughout the year, who was the leader of this Senior Leadership, met with Rex at least once a week. I find it crazy that people can put info on social media and claim it's fact (Fake News!!!!haha). In the specific play were discussing, the corner in the game was not at fault for Roswells last touchdown. There were several things that happened that last play. Again, I am not putting this on the kids or the coaches. These are16,17 year old kids who put everything on the line and wanted nothing more than to win lthat game. First off, the QB broke contain, I'm sure the football experts that we all claim to be, we all know it's the DE's job to keep the QB in the pocket (not the cornerbacks job). When your running a zone coverage, the LB's are in charge of underneath zones, the receiver who caught the pass ran an underneath route, this also is out of the cornerbacks hands. You have yet to explain how that one player being on the field would have changed the outcome of that play. Again, these young men (kids) were trying to make a play in the biggest game in 5A football this year and all the pieces didn't fall our way. Ive seen Nick Saban try a field goal vs.Auburn that was returned for a touchdown because he wasn't prepared to cover a missed field goal...does thatmakee him any less of a coach? This weekend I saw Kirby Smart try a fake punt that had no chance from the get go vs. Alabama. Does this make him any less of a coach? Everybody makes mistakes, players, coaches, owners. i saw this on a previous post, it would be interesting if at anytime somebody came and pointed out all your mistakes at your workplace how you would react.

I guess I haven’t been in Artesia long enough to give concrete evidence on the decline of the strength program- maybe I just expected more. Most of our senior skill kids this year are the same size they were as sophomores... that is unusual for teenagers in a good weight program. I personally gained 35lbs during those years, and about 100lbs on my bench press. They kids I know in Carlsbad from baseball, have all changed significantly over the last couple years... but maybe this is how’s its always been. A good friend of mine (teacher/coach) spoke with Willingham just prior to this season - just small talk about how he liked the change, etc...- and Willingham told him he’d never seen a program work as hard as Carlsbad.... So this goes to your point- maybe it has never measured up. Obviously that hard work from Carlsbad hasn’t translated into much success. The senior leadership information I got was from two seniors that I see every week, and they told me in front of a starting senior o-linemen who didn’t contradict the statement. Maybe these two kids just weren’t part of it- which is hard to believe since they were responsible for the majority of this seasons receptions... again they said they met twice! Of course the kids played their butts off trying for the win... i feel the more details each of us provide on the game the more it looks like we’re calling out kids- which is not what either of us is trying to do- so I won’t go further into the last play... My point from the beginning is simply that most teams play their starters in the biggest situations, I was surprised Artesia did not- that’s it!

My point from the beginning is simply that most teams play their starters in the biggest situations, I was surprised Artesia did not- that’s it! This is the last i post on these topics. I was responding to a number of posters on here, some who actually called for our coaches to be fired. Imabsolutely am not valling out kids, thats why i pointed out that even the best of the best (Saban and Smart) get caught up in the moment. Thats the nature of the game but it doesnt make them any less of a coach or player. I will defend each and every player who were on that field the last play of the game. But at the same time, im gonna defend coaches who work their butts off 7 days of the week from August to December. Im totally confused at why Willingham would make that statement. He was in charge of the strength and conditoning program here in Artesia ( along with Cody Allen). Again, i thought he did a great job at this, its just sometimes we are physically smaller and weaker then otherr teams. Sometimes its genetics. That plays a big part and an individual can only get so big and strong, thats scientifically proven.
