The Eagles defeated the Knights 24-21 behind a massive first quarter and gave head coach Ty House his first win. “Coming out with the first win is pretty surreal, I don’t quite know the emotions to describe it,” House said. “I’m happy; I feel like I’m tearing up a little bit. I’m so happy for these kids and this community.” BHS came out firing on all cylinders and took a 17-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. The defense didn’t allow a first down for the entirety of the quarter. Touchdown passes to Sefe Aragon and Ben Hirschfeld combined with a field goal put the Eagles up big early. The pace of the game slowed down considerably in the second quarter and Del Norte found some answers for Belen’s offense to hold them off the board. The Knights’ offense didn’t have quite the same success, but did score once on a 14-yard run by Isaiah Ortiz. In the second half, it appeared like the Knights were in a position to come back. The BHS offense had run out of steam and there were finally some cracks in the defense. Luke Aragon drove the Eagles offense down the field and the team was inside the red zone when he had a pass tipped and intercepted to set Del Norte up at its own 10. They drove the length of the field and had a fresh set of downs inside the 10. The Eagles defense came up big and forced a turnover on downs, but the offense sputtered and went three-and-out. The Knights had a short field after the punt and didn’t miss the opportunity, scoring their second touchdown of the game to pull within three, 17-14 with three minutes remaining in the third. The score remained the same heading into the fourth, and the Eagles struck next. Aragon found Daniel Hanson streaking down the sideline for a 38-yard touchdown to put BHS up 24-14. It gave the Eagles their first points since the first quarter. The defense appeared to have Del Norte stopped on their next drive, but consecutive offsides penalties on a fourth-and-six gave the Knights new life. They scored to cut the deficit to three again, 24-21. Del Norte was able to stop the Eagles offense from extending the lead and forced a punt from near midfield. The Knights got an opportunity to get the ball back with 1:30 to play. Ben Hirschfield came on to punt and waited just long enough to allow the Eagles gunners to get downfield to prevent a return. The punt was muffed by a Knights player, who lunged at the ball after a wild hop. Belen recovered and was able to seal the win. “My first thought was how many timeouts do they have,” House said. “So I called up to the box on my headset and they said (Del Norte) was out of them, and then I could say, ‘we won,’ so that was pretty cool.” The Eagles will take on Farmington next on the road, with the game scheduled to kickoff at 7 p.m. Friday. The Scorpions are also 1-0 on the year after beating Kirtland Central 55-33 behind 26 points in the final quarter and a half. Quarterback Caleb Carrillo is the focal point and best weapon the Scorpions have at their disposal, and will be a big test for the Eagles defense following a strong week one showing. Game Summary vs FarmingtonFARMINGTON — The Farmington Scorpions’ offense ignited for 27 second-half points, hammering Belen 46-24 in tonight’s home opener at Hutchison Stadium in Farmington. Thomas Montoya, who scored on a 55-yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter, broke the game open in the third quarter, darting down the left side of the field for a 70-yard touchdown reception. Caleb Carrillo (1-yard score on a quarterback keeper), Max Montoya (5-yard touchdown reception in the right corner) and Ethan Thomas (26-yard touchdown reception up the middle) helped put the game away soon after.

Not really sure, he was an assistant at Hobbs for past 7 years. www.news-bulletin.com/sports/eagles-begin-new-era-with-former-hobbs-assistant/article_1e02514e-87af-11e9-8fdb-cf708e85c895.htmlEagles begin new era with former Hobbs assistant Belen football turned the page and entered a new chapter in the school’s history when they hired Ty House in late April. “It’s been a lot of fun so far,” said House. House spent the last seven years as an assistant at Hobbs High School — his alma mater where he graduated in 2006 and played wide receiver. While there, he spent most of his time with the secondary and called coverages for every game. However, his time was not just limited to work with the defensive backs. House said he spent a lot of time developing defensive game plans for the squad. Before becoming an assistant at Hobbs, House received a bachelor’s degree in exercise and sports science at Texas Tech. He then earned a master’s degree in sports administration at Eastern New Mexico, where he also was a student assistant. His hands-on approach to coaching gives him confidence for his first head coaching job. “I just like to attack the task head on,” said House. “Throwing age out the window, you just have to do your job.” Though he plans to incorporate some new things to the program, House acknowledges the foundation left by coaches John Lerma and Greg Henington. House said the team is well-coached and the changes they have made have been simple. The Eagles posted a 7-5 record in 2018 before their season ended in the quarterfinals of the 5A playoffs. House hopes to improve that record in the upcoming seasons, and said the community has been supportive as he and his family have made the move north to Valencia County. He said that he and his wife, Katie, are excited to set their roots down here with their children. “I’ve been overwhelmed with the amount of support and how the community rallies around this particular position,” said House. “Football is a special sport in this town. I’m going to take care of the kids, and, hopefully, that translates to winning.”

How many players does Belen have going both ways? No clue, that's stuff hard to know unless someone scouted them or has watched them and post it on here. They might have that info on the pre-game show, usually interview one of our coaches that's gives info on the opponent. most teams have 3-4 2 way starters at the least, I'd think we are one of the very few that don't have any. Belen Roster43 guys on their roster and guys listed at 2 positions, they may have 5-6 going both ways is my guess. I like us to win big tomorrow. I'll be watching on the stream, updates on fb and twitter, try to post some here too.

This one gets ugly fast. If they don’t bust 50+ they keep it close so the back ups get some mop up time.
