Artesia (2-1) at Deming (2-1) Wildcats scores and schedule so far. vs Gadsden 26-19 W vs Capital 22-14 W @ Goddard 55-0 L Scores from past 5 years 2018 Artesia 56-12 2017 Artesia 49-7 2016 Artesia 49-6 2015 Artesia 37-0 2014 Artesia 53-13 Little blip from the Deming Headlight on game with Goddard last week www.demingheadlight.com/story/sports/2019/09/09/deming-high-wildcats-rolled-over-rockets-55-0/2268405001/First road trip brings first football loss ROSWELL, N.M. – if you don't think one football play can turn a game around – think again. Trailing 7-0 Friday night in Roswell, NM, the Deming High Wildcats marched from their own 45-yard line to the Goddard Rockets' 2. On a 2nd-and-goal play, the ball popped loose and a Goddard lineman rambled 95 yards the other way for a touchdown, giving the Rockets a quick 14-0 advantage. What followed next was a snowball of points that seemingly rolled downhill to pin a 55-0 shutout loss on the visiting DHS Wildcats. Goddard (3-0) got off to a quick start when it scored on the first play from scrimmage following a Deming punt to open the non-district contest. A 32-yard quarterback keeper netted the Rockets a quick 7-0 lead. Deming (2-1) appeared to be ready to answer the call on its' second offensive series and was primed to knot the score from the 2-yard line. That's when the game-changing play occurred and the momentum took a definite swing of the pendulum toward the Goddard sideline. By halftime, the Rockets were comfortably in the lead 28-0. Midway through the fourth quarter, the head referee called the game via the mercy rule in New Mexico high school football when the rockets cashed in their eighth touchdown of the game. The Rockets were ranked No. 2 heading into Friday's game and the Deming Wildcats were ranked No. 8 in a recent New Mexico coaches' poll. The Rockets now own three straight wins over the 'Cats dating back to last year. The 'Cats will have a brief time to lick their wounds as the Artesia High Bulldogs come to town for a 7 p.m. kick off on Friday at DHS Memorial Stadium. The Bulldogs (2-1) were ranked No. 3 in the coaches' pool heading into their game on Friday at Belen High School. They defeated the Eagles 56-14 and will be primed to spoil the Wildcat Homecoming this Friday.

This game will be over rather quickly. 33 players total. 2 low volume wins 1 mad blow out last week. Once the Bulldogs reach 42 I believe the rotate the 2nd team in and put up the next 2 touchdowns and then it’s back on the bus home. I would say why are we playing deming anymore but I know there is a fine line between teams with guts and teams that just want to get by. Deming has guts. But there needs to be a change. Deming hasn’t been competitive for awhile.

If not everyone in NM wants to play Artesia why not schedule a Texas team, like yesteryear?

Because a lot of Texas teams have two maybe three games before they get into district. Same problem we have here in New Mexico now. All the 6A schools have about 4 non district games. That means pickings are slim. 6A schools up north don’t have the money to come down and play in the south. Least that’s what I hear a lot of. Am I wrong? Heck mayfield is right over the mountain so is centennial Oñate and las cruces. Had a long standing rivalry with the bull dawgs but just like other 6A schools they have a few non district games and then it’s over with.
My question is this. Is it worth it to have 2nd tier teams to tune up with? Granted it helps with getting the flow of the team together get them playing well together but to blow out teams instead of having to grind out the win is it worth it in the long run?

I think we got a good mix for the most part ahs95, seems strength on schedule will do you no favors come playoff seeding time.

Go Dogs! I’ll be there. About an hour from Cruces so not bad of a drive. 30% chance of rain. Gonna take an umbrella just in case.

Rec didn't want to scrimmage La Cueva after Onate dropped us. He wanted to scrimmage a power run team to prepare for our district does. But pickings are slim.
We play Deming, Lovington and Ruidoso because trying to fit a schedule together when we have traditional games and the other schools have the same type traditional games is tough. Mayfield tried to schedule us but weekends didn't work out. Las Cruces High just got out of it cause they wanted to play an Albuquerque school to get them used to traveling up there for the playoffs.
Scheduling has taken a life of its own. I will say we did drop Clovis off the schedule. Not sure why but dissapointimg. I know Coach Fuller has tried to schedule us but we won't.
Texas schools are in such large districts that they only have like 2 non district games.
Cooper refused to play El Paso schools after Riverside treated us like crap the last time we went.
We have to play anyone we can. Portales is another school we shouldn't play but have to on occasion.

Bulldogs win it 55-6, dogs move to 3-1.
Roswell is going to defeat Los Lunas 56-27 currently, 5 minutes left. I had LL going in but Coyotes defend the home field and look plenty fast out there. I'll keep them #1 then until proven otherwise. Good win for them.
