A high profile matchup this week, The Cleveland Storm (3-1) visit Artesia (3-1) The Storm rated #2 in last week's coaches poll in 6A, they will probably stay there in this week's poll. They will certainly be a tough matchup, they have a lot of size and speed, players going both ways, only loss was to El Paso Franklin, a very good team from my understanding. Here is their schedule and scores so far. @onate 50-0 W @ep Franklin 36-13 L Eldorado 63-21 W Mayfield 35-10 W Scores from Previous Matchups 2018 Cleveland 49-14 2017 Cleveland 56-49 2016 Cleveland 42-28

Bingo.
Actually won a baseball state title for the Rio Rancho rams, then Cleveland opened and played 2 years there. Didn't know that until I looked him up. I think he played in Artesia once at the Artesia Invitational, just remember hearing about him. Would have went to the Texas Longhorns for baseball but opted to go in the draft. #26 Overall to Boston.

They lost to Franklin by the approximate same score that Permian did.

Here is the Coaches Poll, Artesia moves up 1 spot as Los Lunas fell to Roswell. Roswell picks up more votes for 1st place now compared to 7 votes last week. They can be scored on but they seem to score whatever is needed to win, that's the question for me, can their offense be slowed down any? Goddard lurking at #2 This will unravel itself soon enough, at the midpoint of the season after this week is done. Time fly's

SLC just beat Permian 48-7 at Ratliff Stadium... Mojo isn't the same as they once were. That said, we have 3 D-1 Commits on the OL and our soph QB has 8 Power 5 offers and is rated the #1 QB in his class in the nation.
I see once again, Rocky Long has SDSU rolling.... I also sadly saw UNM's pathetic performance vs ND. Bring back RL.

There is a huge gap between DFW football and West Texas football. TwinsDad we played TImberview last week and they had the greatest/best offensive talent I have ever seen. QB going to Texas, RB going to Colorado, WR going to SMU, OL going to TCU, OL going to Tech. They didn't have all their skill people first two games but dang now that they have them they are scary. Lone Star may be best in 5A in Texas and Duncanville has another great recruiting class

Lone Star may be best in 5A in Texas and Duncanville has another great recruiting class Duncanville is the #4 ranked team in the Nation according to MaxPreps rankings....... #1.......Mater Dei (Santa Anna, CA) #2.......St. John Bosco (Bellflower, CA) #3.......IMG Academy (Bradenton, FL) #4.......Duncanville (TX)#5.......St. Francis Academy (Baltimore, MD) Charliedog....it also occurred to me that it must seem strange to YOU, that looking at the NM rankings that Randall posted above, 4 out of 5 of the Top 5 teams in Class 6A....the largest class in NM.....were not even in existence the last time that you coached in NM. I have to admit, it seems strange to me also. I graduated from AHS in 1976, and at that time there WAS NO....Rio Rancho High......Rio Rancho Cleveland......Albuquerque Volcano Vista......or......Las Cruces Centennial. What also seems strange to me is how quickly those 4 schools became football powers, considering how new they are. Rio Rancho High is the oldest of the 4...opened in 1997.

Yup I've mentioned it before but the North in the top classification has definitely caught up to the south or surpassed it. South has not won the top class since 2013. Which was about the time Centennial started in Las Cruces, not sure if that ties into it, but Clovis, even us etc seem to have a hard time against the Albq schools as well now. where we used to beat them on a consistent basis, not the case anymore.
Cedric Benson the great RB at Midland Lee and UT died a few weeks back, reminded me about the 3 titles he helped Midland Lee get, I think that's the last time anyone from West Texas won the top class in Texas if I'm not mistaken? either way I doubt anything like that ever happens again, hard to even fathom now that they pulled that off.

I hope you didn't bet you're business partner Rick (ND Grad) when they played you're Lobos I don't know why Davie still sticking around the Lobos, I think they gave him a stroke, literally.

Charliedog, the soph QB for Frisco Lone Star left SLC 2 years ago. He is now leading the area in passing, our kid at SLC is rated the #1 QB prospect in the nation.... seems it is working out for both. The Mansfield schools are LOADED with talent these days... 5A is gonna be wide open this year compared to the last 3 years in DFW, where Highland Park has ruled...I wouldn't count them out yet as they have arguably the finest HC in Texas history, as well as a D-1 Commit at QB and a Texas Commit at DE.
How does Lake Ridge look this year? My sons played with a Lake Ridge '22 this summer on their travel ball team. That kid and his older brother think your son hung the moon!! They love them some Coach Allen...
Agent Orange: no way did I give away money to the son of your next door neighbor last week!! I'm tighter that that with a buck... and hopefully not gone senile yet either!!

Incidentally, I read in the ABQ Journal, the NMAA is beginning to investigate school athletics re recruiting, will that include private schools?

I believe your statement is correct. Abilene High won a 5A title in 2009, but in division 2. 5A was the largest classification at the time.

Cleveland at Artesia and Rio Rancho at LaCueva are the two games I am interested in most this weekend. It will be tough for the Dogs but I give them a chance for an upset. Cleveland is well balanced but with the possible exception of the El Paso team they lost to that I know nothing about, the QBs up here is Albuquerque are not as good at throwing the ball as your QB. Go Dogs!
RR started the season by blowing a big lead at home vs Centenial then got blew out up in Colorado. The last two weeks they have beaten a good Clovis team at home and went to Las Crusces and beat the Bulldawgs. If they can win the turnover battle and Isiah Chavez has another good game at QB they have a shot. I will be watching that game and AF at Boise State, they play at the same time. Go Falcons.
I would like to see Cleveland replaced on the Dogs schedule with the Rams.
