Wildcats haven’t beaten the Bulldogs since 2001. It seems like it takes some of the up and coming teams with coaching changes and years of headaches to get to this level. Took Roswell 18 years to hang a W on Artesia. But this team for Artesia is not like last years and neither is the wildcats. Don’t think the Bulldogs will take them lightly. One thing about today’s internet lifestyle you get a lot of highlights from it. You know what’s coming. And yes Lovington is a rivalry game no matter how you put it. No matter what class it’s family we are playing just like the other south east schools. We know what they are going to bring. We just got to be ready to play our game and take them out of there’s. They want it? Here’s the problem Lovington, We do too! Play smart Play strong Play hard! Get the win! ITS GREAT TO BE A BULLDOG!

It's Homecoming week, Artesia (3-2) take on the Lovington Wildcats (4-1) Here is Lovington schedule and scores so far. vs Chaparral 53-0 W vs Roswell 76-54 L @ Capital 42-26 W @ Hobbs 26-0 W vs Alamogordo 29-22 W Scores from Past 5 years. 2018 Artesia 50-21 W 2017 Artesia 49-14 W 2016 Artesia 55-3 W 2015 Artesia 53-22 W 2014 Artesia 55-19 W 2013 Artesia 33-27 W I just checked MaxPreps and Lovington still has that idiot coach Anthony Gonzales. He is the guy who came to Lovington from some big football power in Texas. His very first season in Lovington was the year after Cooper retired....Rex Henderson's first year as head coach. I remember him saying in the Lovington newspaper that he was sad to learn that Cooper had retired, because he had been looking forward to schooling him on how to coach football. Said he had been looking forward to showing Cooper how Texas football is played, lol. Just look at the scores over the last few years that Randall posted above. Doesn't look like he has had much luck does it, lol. Would love to mercy rule them tonight!

Cooper did coach in Texas. I think he coached the Borger, Tx Bulldogs with his brother Butch.

Cooper did coach in Texas. I think he coached the Borger, Tx Bulldogs with his brother Butch. That is correct. I knew that, but I had forgotten. I think he also coached at Perryton, just 60 miles northeast of Borger.

I thought Lovington would be a scrappy bunch, they were. Their QB was impressive, he extended plays all the time or took off with it. Hands down the favorite in 4A after seeing them in person.
Kuddos to our Offense and Clay, Braxton, Cueto, all of them, they scored whatever was needed for the win.

At this point the defense has got to get better. District games are on the way. Roswell is licking its chops. They know they can run against Artesia.

At this point, hand out the ammunition and lets see who's got the most firepower. I see more shootouts in the future. Here is the game winner, I gotta get to bed, more bulldog football tomorrow. Good Night. Final Touchdown.

The Bulldogs are really fun to watch on offense! They can score from anywhere at anytime

Hats off to Lovington! They exploited our very weak secondary and linebackers. I see them winning 4A.
However, when do we call a spade a spade? Our defense flat out stinks. Scheme is mediocre. Very little and I mean very little leadership on that side of the ball. As a defensive player, we used to pride ourselves to out shine the offense. On every state championship team, at some point, the defense starts clicking. When does it start this year? or does it? Johnston is frustrated. You can tell. Is it leadership? Coaching? Effort? All the above?

It is frustrating to fans or maybe just me to see confusion and frustrated coaches, which is what I witnessed on line

As a coach of a lot of younger kids, there is a huge issue with attitude and effort. The “me” generation destroys team chemistry. I saw a lot of effort issues last night. I will ALWAYS hate the three man front against running teams! I don’t understand how you expect 15-18 year olds to run a successful gap control defense.
If they DIDNT show frustration, then I’d be upset. The coaches have drive and passion. They work their butts of week in and out.

How many times did we not have the right personnel out on the field last night. Hell we were missing the Quarterback on a two point conversion and there was no sense of urgency to get him on the field. He was celebrating on the sidelines while the offense was lined up with no QB. Discipline is the biggest issue with this team. There is enough talent to really be good but the discipline is really bad on this team. Comes down to coaching. I know we are over reacting today. But when we see so much talent and the results don't show it on the field it hurts. Yes we won. We should only have 1 loss. Hate to say it but it looks at times like we are out of shape. Cooper Carries himself like a professional. Rex not so much and it shows in how the team plays. The offense is awesome but at times has its mental lapses like not having every player out on the field for the snap. How the hell does this happen?? The PATs were a joke last night. How do we not have someone that can snap the ball without a mishap? ? This should be worked on but I guess its not that important to our coaches. I agree the 3 man front was stupid. Their offensive line just had their way with our guys. Guards would pull and a lot of the times wouldn't have anyone to block until they were 10 yards down the field. Arm tackling is the worst. How do the coaches not work to teach their kids to tackle. Wrapping up seems to be an issue. How about the defensive backs not going for the ball at all. The QB lofted passes and we were there but never went for the ball. Just waited for the receiver to catch the ball then hit him. It looks like the players on defense aren't coached up. Bad angles by Pacheco yesterday. Could have stopped the QB for short 3 or 4 yard gains yesterday or even less but we take bad angles and the QB got 20 yards. We have some great skill players on offense. On Defense we have some closing speed. We just don't have discipline nor the sense of urgency to really put a game away. That's all my ranting for a couple of weeks. By the way Deming has some speed and running back. Just saying.

What you guys fail to see is that this defense is young. 3 returners with ANY varsity experience. Our coaches work very very hard putting in 70-80 work weeks and you want to criticize from your stadium seat? Our boys are doing very well. We are only getting better each week. Please be positive. Remember Ephesians 4:29

Not saying the kids are bad or at fault. Our kids are the same kids every year. Just not being coached up. I know our defense is young. But there is some real talent there. They ran the ball effecitively last night cause our coach has them in a 3 down linemen defensive front. They used 6 players to block our offensive line and linebackers. Linebackers were getting blocked cause most of their linemen were uncovered with nothing to stop them from getting to our linebackers. Those guards would pull and seal the linebackers and the QB would hesitate and wait then explode through huge holes. Nothing our kids could do. They were put in that position. They threw the ball but I would have stacked the box and forced them to throw with pressure on the QB.
But your right, I need to quit coaching from my seat.

I have always been told Offense wins games, Defense wins Championships. We are a long way from that. We cannot allow 50 plus points and win a Championship. Yes changes need to be made play your best players both ways if you need to.

Give Lovington a little credit, at the jv game today, a guy pointed out to me that at all the lineman competitions through the summer Lovington won them all, their Line is big, all average about 260lbs, 6'3, 6'3, 6'5 lineman, look at their roster, they were physical and nasty out there, and their qb was not bad either and could buy extra time on his own, they've scored 50 points 3 times so far and put 54 on #1 seed roswell. Not the typical lovington team we face, kind of remind me of their 2010 team led by QB Jacob Jameson we beat them in the bowl 63-49 that year. We both went on to State Titles that year. Most people expected a blowout, even so in the 3rd quarter when people took off, nobody told Lovington the game was over, these cats got 9 lives this year, have to kill them 10 times before you call it good. They got Goddard next, lets see what happens. Tune in next week

I think Artesia played their best players both ways in the past. There's parents out there that will gritch if their kids don't play. They don't know the concept of CA.
