Well,,I dislike dumping on the players because I KNOW they are NOT trying to lose,,but Gosh Dang It,,don't the coaches see the same things we do?? Halfway thru the season and I'm still seeing too much arm tackling,, way too many missed tackles,,and even more missed tackles. If you look at the very first game against C-bad,it is eeerily familiar to tonight's defensive efforts. It's just a dang good thing the offense is doing so well that we win.Years before one could expect to see some second half "adjustments" to other team's game plans. If Ruidoso didn't have so many kids going both ways, the 4th quarter might of been different. Me thinks if we don't turn over lots of new leafs in the next two weeks, we're not gonna be getting very far in district against the likes of Roswell and Goddard. I do hope I'm wrong.

They are not trying to lose, are they trying to win? The defense has got to improve. There was more confusion on the specialty team. The dogs had a player missing for a bit on the receiving team.

Is Jedd Figg coaching the defense again? Boy we give up points like there is not tomorrow. I sure do miss Willingham.
The kids can play they are just running a terrible scheme. Blitzes at the wrong time. Defensive backs not coached to go after the ball when it's in the air. They have chances but don't break on the ball. Just looking at letting the receiver catch it then trying to knock it out or just tackle him. Robby has brought this up numerous times in the broadcast. I agree.

When does basketball begin? It's already here -- run-and-gun ball but on the gridiron instead of the court.
I got sleepy and went to bed around 9 p.m. last night. With 119 combined points scored, and all the subsequent kickoffs, what time did this game end? Did it take three or more hours to play?

4A Lovington hangs 52 points on the Bulldogs defense. 4A Lovington hangs 7 points on the Goddard Rockets defense. 6th ranked 4A Ruidoso hangs 46 points on the Bulldogs defense. I see a bad moon a-rising. I see trouble on the way!
We now resemble the Mescalero Apache Chiefs. They get 40 to 60 points scored on them every Friday night.

Looked as if Ruidoso had some big ol' "fat boys" up front. Their blocking scheme seemed pretty simple - drop block right or left, screen the outside linebacker and run the back off the tackle/TE. The running back would be at the second level and then it was one on one and we did a pretty lousy job of tackling in the open field.
The only question I had during the game was why Ruidoso ever tried to pass. They were eating us alive on the ground. Kinda hard to understand this game when we handled 6A power Cleveland they way we did.

Hopefully the defense finds itself, we just need a little, not even a lot So from the article Clay ties the record again, my question is can anyone stop the offense? Goddard and Roswell will be tougher opponents but still. Clay is playing amazing football right now, Aggies & Lobos need to look at our guy, if he wants to keep playing. Artesia was led by Clay Houghtaling. He was 29-for-33 for 343 passing yards and seven touchdowns with no interceptions. Houghtaling also led the Bulldogs in rushing with 73 yards off nine rushes and two scores.

The writer at current Argus should get a kick in the ol stones. Our offense has had 14 touchdown pass/receptions in the last 2 weeks and the article focuses on Ruidoso’s offense. Oh well kick their butts on the field.
Or was it a cheap shot at our defensive struggles.....?
Can anyone educate this old has been as to why the 3-4 gap control defense is so popular now? I always felt that an attacking four man front was more aggressive and successful.

I agree with the 4 down defense. I think it's been more successful

In order to play the gap control defense (3-4) you need d-linemen that can actually control the LoS and you need 4 very good LBs who can fill holes as well as cover too it’s a hard balance to have...the 3-4 imo is better for the zone read stuff that is ran these days but you need the horses to run it

I agree with the 4 down defense. I think it's been more successful Our 74,75 defense teams ran the 4 down defense. Hey Randall can you post all those pics I post on my facebook wall on here. You can see our linebackers playing up close against st. pius x offense. Thanks

I always felt that an attacking four man front was more aggressive and successful. He covers Artesia well enough, especially for a guy working for the Carlsbad Argus, he interviews coaches and sometimes players every week for pre and post game articles, follow his twitter he posted video of several artesia touchdowns from yesterday, I retweeted them. He even covered our JV B game in Loving, of course it was a Loving Varsity game so that's mainly why he was there, but the guy is trying to hussle in this area, he's originally from Santa Fe and new to our area and trying to learn it all and soak it all in, chatted with him some at our JV Game. He mentioned Clay record performance last week in an article, he gives our offense plenty of props. No cheap shot, he knows his audience but has to tell a story too, he covered both offenses in that, Ruidoso had more yards than us, that's was interesting. anyways my 2 cents.

The bulldog defense is going to have to find an identity and quit assuming that the offense is going to save their ass. They have shown that they can hang with the likes of Cleveland they will just have to rise to th district game occasion. I’m sure the coaches are scrambling to figure this out, the bottom line is can these boys on defense find the heart to help the offense win. I played for TW Harvey as a free safety and we had just as much pride as the offense had. I hope that these boys can make the adjustment and play as a team play some D.
