Tough loss, 46-34 Rockets.
Started out good 14-0 but Rockets come back and control the game running the ball, not much we could do to stop it once they got rolling.

That is not news to me. Alamogordo will run the football and will not be surprised if they win.

The lack of activity on this board last night....and this morning.....says it all! Times, they are a changing. At this point we are about as relevant as Santa Fe High and Santa Teresa. Never thought I would see the day! But we had a GREAT run! First championship was won in 1957, and the most recent was in 2017. That is a span of 60 years that we were the most dominant high school football program in the State of New Mexico. No other school in New Mexico can say that! And unless changes are made on the defensive side of the ball.......coaching staff......I fear that I may have already witnessed the last Artesia Bulldog State Championship team in MY life-time. So very sad that I feel this way, but NOTHING lasts forever. You know, I got grilled in the stands when I stated it was sad we didn’t have the best coaches on the field. Because WE DONT!!! We are getting OUTPLAYED and OUT COACHED! I also acknowledge that coaches attempted to scheme a little last night. However we don’t have the “it” factor on Defense. I have seen numerous state championships and sooner or later the Defense steps up and plays ball. Henderson continues to state we are young on the Defense. Let this be a lesson that if we want to win state titles, it starts in the weight room in the winter. We will play 3 more games this season. These “younger” players need to put in the time and work to get better from here on out! Our coaches need to PUSH them to put the work in and have a no lose mentality. Ultimately it’s coaching. We lost something when Cooper stepped down. We’ve been wondering around lost on defense since Willingham moved on. Defense is 90% attitude and 90% of the attitude is running in the wrong direction. My hope is that the coaches change the culture and the kids can buy in.

Defensive coaches fail again and havent learned a thing all season. I know Goddard is big and physical which is why you have to put 8 guys in the box. If you run the 4-3 they are going to run student body left/right and counter plays all game. We just dont have the size or talent to play guys on only one side of the ball. Especially when some of the guys on defense are 5'5" and weigh 130 pounds. They arent going to be able to stop a power running attack. Roswell and Goddard put their biggest, strongest guys both ways and punish people. Thats why you see a runningback trucking our tiny linebackers and DBs then see him clobber Houghtaling on the next series. If they can change that I dont think Artesia would lose a game. Dream on I guess.

Kansas state whips OU today.A team like KU slapping the number 5 ranked team in the nation. What does that say? IMO the message is KU coaches made some changes. Can that be duplicated AHS if they get into the playoffs. I still think Artesia has the talent to take state.

My hope is that the coaches change the culture and the kids can buy in. You know, I actually DID make that post that you quoted above. But if you look at all of the posts in this thread that are above yours, you will notice that that post by me is nowhere to be found. Do you know why that is? It's because I deleted it about 3 minutes after I posted it. And WHY did I delete it? Because I got to thinking about some of the things people have said on here about kids reading this board.....about families of players reading this board....etc. So I thought better of it and deleted it, because I didn't want to step on any toes....or ruffle any feathers. But somehow, within that 3 minute window that my post was up.....you managed to find it and quote it. So now it will live forever....even though I deleted it. And for that I want to thank you! NO sarcasm intended....SERIOUSLY! I seriously regretted deleting it, should have left it up and let the chips fall where they may. Funny.....made the post and regretted it...deleted it.....then regretted deleting it. Thought about re-posting it, but just didn't have the energy. I am glad that you saw it and quoted it within that 3 minute window that it was up.....I'm glad that you captured it. Too many people with their heads in the sand around here who don't want to hear the truth!

Hey CrispysDad,,,don't beat yourself up Guy, as most of us feel the same way and also hurt at what is happening to our beloved program. I too made a statement a few games back about Henderson chewing out and sending a player from the huddle in front of everybody. I was wrong!! Maybe if the coaches showed more of their "concerns" for the many missed tackles and failed executions we now see,,,things might be different. The defense has needed some adjustments since day one but I now see our quarterback having to scramble nearly every pass play and his completion percentage is not anywhere close to what he started with. The one bright spot still there is the #10 player just does not appear to have much "quit" in him. Something you don't see too much of is the unabashed celebrations of the coaches when a great play is executed. One of the best pictures I have seen associated with the Bulldogs, was on the back of some programs. It was a pic of 3 coaches caught in mid air celebrating a touchdown or some spectacular play. That pic will always be a testimony of how things should be in Title Town.

my Son in Law is the Head Coach at Santa Fe High. When he took job they had lost 37 straight games. When he started off season they had 32 kids. When his first season started he had 60 kids and most were Frosh or Sophomores. He won games last year and did not get mercy ruled and improved. He is starting 14 Sophomores this year and they are 4-5 and have a shot at District Championship. They have 86 kids in program and next expect to hit 100. Lower classes are loaded with talent and he had changed the culture. They are doing things not other school in State is doing. Required study hall for all players on Wednesday Night. Parents cook dinner and players are tutored by other players or Teachers. Providing food for families of players who are poor and have little food. Booster Club raised $35K this year. They have a Soph TE who is 6'2" and 215 and will be a D-1 prospect. They have a OT who is 6'5" and 265 and will be a D-1 prospect. Look for them to win 8-9 games next year. So yes I was offended by your comment about Santa Fe High

I agree, don't beat yourself up. I think your post are good. I am sure some people got bent out of shape by the statements, however, it is the truth. Many others appreciate them and agree with you. They express the way you feel and I am sure you express the sentiments of other Artesians. Don't be surprised if there isn't too many people in the stands this Friday. I hope there will be although I would not be surprised if there are not too many fans. People enjoy watching their team win, Artesia fans aren't any different.

Charliedog--At Santa Fe does the div 1 TE prospect and the div 1 OT prospect stand on the sideline resting and clapping for their defense as they lose 5 out of 9 games??

Andrew is my wife's cousin and has been good for the Santa Fe Demons. We were going to go watch them play the Bernalillo football team but unfortunately did not make the game. Anyway I cheer for them. Unfortunately, they lost that game

Andrew is doing a great job up there. Three of their losses were by 3, 4, and 6 points. They were close to being 7-2 right now. They have given up about 160 fewer points in 9 games than we have. Against Goddard some of our match ups looked like the Junior college facing the Junior High!!

It 14-0 dogs they just couldn't keep up the score. I have seen Artesia teams tear up their opponents who were much bigger than them. Defense need to improve.

This will be the final post from me in this thread. A lot of people have "poured their hearts out" in this thread. Said what they really felt!!! Me included! There are NOT a lot of places where you can do that......other football message boards, for example.......without having your posts deleted or being BANNED! The Red Menace UNM Lobo message board for example......say one negative thing about the Lobos and you are GONE!
Randall.....this is me talking from the heart! I REALLY DO appreciate you providing us Bulldog fans with a forum where we can say what we truly feel about the condition of the Artesia Bulldog football program without the fear of having posts deleted or being banned! But sometimes I feel like we are trying your patience. Thanks You Randall....for putting up with us!
