I hear you. Artesia let one of the best go when he moved to Los Lunas to coach. Coach Willingham was doing excellent as defensive coach and somehow he chose to leave, why?

It isn't that we let him get away. He left cause his wife is from the metro area and wanted to raise her kids near parents. She didn't like living in a small town. Happy Wife Happy life.
You guys are hung up on Willingham. Love that guy. But he didn't do much better in stopping the run. Heck we had teams throw for a million yards on us. Remember Hobbs a few years ago in the bowl setting world records of offense on us???
Maybe we can accept it was a down year. Wasn't long ago we were losing in the first round of the playoffs to Moriarty. Our expectations are great but sometimes we just don't meet them. We can't win every year. As long as there is good effort things will be OK.
Who all is going to Santa Fe on Friday? We will be there.

I think if I remember correctly Artesia when they lost to Moriarty in the first round did not have the talent they do this year. Artesia is talented this year. The coaching well that's another story

I definitely don’t like what has happened to our defense over the last two years. I do think Willingham did a better job- Artesia always has some problems on D, their best kids play offense - so it’s kind of expected. But Willingham made obvious half time adjustments that worked- that hasn’t happened since he left. And the Hobbs game you refer to- was a rarity.... Gavin Hardison threw for Over 5000 yds that season with 50+ TD’s. That is literally better than any Artesia QB ever!! It’s not like the Willingham Dogs we’re getting gashed week in and week out by the same thing, like what’s happening now.
Now that being said.... what were the expectations of this team? I understand the Junior class has high expectations, same with the sophomores. But how good has this senior class been? I don’t know the answer- it’s a serious question..... Did they win border conference in 8th or 9th grade? My point is- Have they been a dominant team until this year? Or is this class just down in talent?

They have not been a dominant class. And many of them do not play football. The class is also very small, 200 kids max. The junior class is huge, almost 300 kids.

As did Coach Worley,,, Now a days the defense is still trying to stop the run in the fourth, with the same tactics that we started the game with. One would think Coach Henderson would Demand an defensive adjustment at the half when it is obviously needed. I feel for the quarterback, being rated #1 in the state because of all his efforts,,,I'll bet he has a boatload of things to say,,,,

I liked Coach Willingham but you forget that his defense gave up 34 points to St. Pius in the 2015 State game. They ran all over us we could not stop them all day long. I don’t remember anyone complaining about him. We win and lose as a team. We have won 30 State Championship since 1957. Not one Coach or player has been a part of every one but, “Tradition never graduates.” I am still proud to be a Bulldog and will support our players and Coaches win lose or draw. Go Dogs! Beat Capital.

I think it was the 2016 game you’re referring to and I’m not trying to make excuses for Willingham but St. Pius ended 12-1 and had Drew Ortiz who started his college career as a D1 duel threat QB at UTEP. He accounted for most of the yards that day. Are we really saying Willingham giving up a lot of points to two teams led by D1 college players (Ortiz & Hardison) is comparable to this years team vs Alamogordo or Ruidoso? I do agree GO DOGS- win, lose or draw. But our district has two of the best coaches in the state in White and Lynn, things are only going to get more difficult. Those Roswell teams aren’t going away anytime soon.

Suggestion to the AHS admistration and AD. I've heard that Scott Runyan now lives in Carlsbad. Bring him back either as a full time coach or to consult. I'm good friends with Russell Maryland who played at Miami when Scott was coaching there under Dennis Erickson. RM has nothing but great things to say about Scott. All of us who know Scott know this: He was ahead of his time when it came to strength and conditioning, he's obviously a winner, and lastly he has been at the highest of levels.... so certainly bringing him into the fold can't hurt??
Again, just a suggestion from afar....

Capital have a small visitors side. If you get there late you may have to park way off campus. A few year back I watch Artesia and Capital played in a playoff game at Santa Fe. They like to talk alot OF trash. I hope the defense can stop their stud RB. Artesia won the game it was close game. My mother nephew Jeremiah Mullen (RB) play in that game
