The dogs better be vastly improved after a .500 season. There's no excuse for some of the losses this year. The coaches needed to figure some things out in the off season. A repeat of this year will mean some coaching changes need to happen.

And here I thought the D had finally turned that corner especially after watching them against Capital in the first half. Today, They looked flat from play one,,, You ever see a bunch of high school players with such little emotion,,especially in a play-off game? Coach Maupin had the upper hand today and Cooper had a good look. Mayhap next year,,,,,,

We really struggled on both sides of the ball today.
I give Los Lunas credit, they were much bigger than us and they are an experienced group coming back from last year state title run. I think their is a big difference from their power run game than say capitals. We could have done better yes, much better but that is a very good team, with only losses to Clovis and Roswell, teams still in the running for titles.
I feel for the seniors, time for the off-season, I hope we work hard in the off season and can turn it around next year.

Drove down from ABQ for the game and it looked for a moment that we could hang in there with an obviously more talented, more skilled and bigger team. The decision making towards the end of the half was the difference in keeping it close. The decision making seems to be a trend over the past few years.
But the bottom line is that our team is very undersized and were easily pushed around all season and you could see that coming last season as well. LL made our secondary look like a typical lower tier team and were easily open the whole game.
Hope some more bigger and stronger players are in the pipeline....

A repeat of this year will mean some coaching changes need to happen. Problem is there is no Off-season. That is another big difference in this staff and the staff of the past. They just don't work out lie they used to D-coordinator is in over his head. We had some really good kids this season. Should not have been beat this bad at all.

No off session? I know my two kids who played football used to lift weights and work on their stamina in the time they didn't play football.I remember the Quarterbacks and kids playing on their own with the coaches just enjoying and encouraging them. They didn't coach them. They would get together and work out. No off season?

I guess I'll say it, hindsight 20/20 but it's obvious we hired the wrong guy, or rather the good ol boy network did. Maupin was the better interviewer I've heard, they knew it too, everyone raves about him. He should have been the hire. It was a foregone conclusion though the interviews were just a formality.
He is 26-9, at Los Lunas, let me say that again Los Lunas!! while the latter is 24-13 with some much history and program already in place. He's just getting this started at LL, maybe on their way to back to back title appearances in only 3 years.
Sour Grapes? yeah I'm sure there is some of that in my post but the things they did to us on the field today and had us off balance, I think we missed out on the next great coach.
"I got to coach and be coached by Coach Henderson, one of the greatest coaches in New Mexico history, if not the greatest coach," Maupin said. "Just a lot of making sure we get the little things correct and how the little things turn into big things, and so I learned a lot from him."
nothing against the other guy, but this was the one that stood out and they passed on him, and today he passed us up. if I was him I would have put that Rhino Package in one last time to send us home, he took the knee.
I've said all I wanted to say. Sorry but not Sorry.

Well,,I will say this,,I hope the person(s) that said or did whatever back then, to cause "Super Cooper" to abruply "resign", then change his action to "retire",,I hope they are satisfied for where we are today. I know nobody wants to talk about what happened back then but that person(s) did effectively put a heck a lot of roadblocks for us to continue the run on being #1 in the nation in most state Championships. So sad to watch our Bulldogs struggle against a "suppossedly" better conditioned team, as years before our size has not been a determining factor because the intensity of our players has been enough to offset that size factor. What I have seen in the last 4-5 games is not very much intensity from our players,,AND coaches!! I used to see all kinds of celebrating on sidelines after a defensive stop,or a great run,,you just don't see much of that any more,,,,,,

I'm from Belen and went to both your game with Belen and yesterday to watch the bulldogs play Los Lunas.
This is not a normal Los Lunas team and there is a reason why the crowd is so small.
Los Lunas undertook a recruitment campaign that most schools in 5a are not capable of. They depleted Valencia high school of players, that's why Valencia is so bad. if you had the choice to go to Valencia (built in the middle of no we're) or Los Lunas which would you choose? Also took players from Alb south valley schools such as Rio Grande. (Again Rio Grande high have you ever seen it!)
Belen was bad cause all it's seniors quits so it was a bad team but they were from Belen.
I never underestimate the bulldogs talent, that's why your Artesia and that's why win or lost other teams want to pay you. Just the idea that Artesia came the Belen to play Belen takes pride in. Stop knocking your selves down.
I wish there was a better rule on recruitment, this is high school football,Los Lunas will spend what ever it takes to get a team. Same reality of why you'll never see UNM Lobos play at the Rose Bowl.
Anyway I was so amazed at your support, your crowd was amazing, Belen has crowds that travel like that, very schools do.(I sat on your side.)
Take pride at who you are and look at the bigger picture, I believe there should be a rule if schools had a certain amount of recurits from outside their district they should move to the next level then it's fair game at that level.
What you saw yesterday was was not Los Lunas, but a high bred of a team. An unfair advantage that will always beat you.

Like to say congrats to Los Lunas. Artesia is not the same program as they have been in the past. Since Rex Henderson took over the program it has been a train wreck. Rex doesn’t have the relationship with the kids like cooper did. Rex is a arrogant jerk to put it nicely. Hopefully it will change

Maybe the NMAA should be alerted regarding recruiting? I know Rex father, he is a humble man who cares for kids. He is certainly no jerk.

He is always crying about how Roswell High recruits "his" players. He's too stupid and arrogant to realize that kids don't wanna play for him. This is NOT recruiting. Wait a minute......I wouldn't doubt is this is White posting that Los Lunas recruits. Just in case Los Lunas whoops their asses on Saturday.
