Josh is moving on. After getting 51 yds vs Alabama he didn't play much. Too bad, I thought him and Samuels coud have been a great backfield.
There is speculation on the NMSU board that his dad had something to do with coach Martin being investigated but don't know enough about that to comment. I hope he stays D1 and plays when eligible. Never forget one of the hs coaches in NM said he was the best rb he had ever seen in hs. Good luck Josh!

This probably deserves a separate thread but yesterday new Lobo coach Gpnzales named RR head coach David Howes as LB coach at UNM. Howes did a great job at RRHS and there will be a lot of interest in that job but they will probably promote from within like they did with Coach Howes.

Wow, that is huge news, Howe had a good run at RR, let us know if you find out who is going for that job, be a good one I think. How's the team looking for next year Mike? do you guys return a lot ? As for Mr Foley dad, nothing would surprise me on that, that's all I will say

Running game should be good with Vigil only being a JR. QB is a question mark, defense started shaky last year but got better at the end. I don't know the numbers coming back will post the when I find out. Will not be favored in their district, Cleveland loaded again for next year

Cord is a good QB, I agree. But sophomore Nathan Taylor is good too, and Cord proved he’s valuable in the defensive backfield as well. So would it be better for the team to keep Cord on the defensive side, and groom a two year starting QB? Not sure the answer, just good for thought!

Hitparade I agree we benefit a lot from a 2 year starter at QB.
But I'm 99.9% sure Cord will be the Qb next year, and Nathan will play slot/WR spot.

I’m okay with that. I certainly don’t question Cords talents, and obviously he has toughness to move to defense as a junior. Personally I thought he was our best defensive back- although Carter got the state recognition. I just hope we have something in the pipeline to make a difference on defense.... Moving one of our few bright spots back to offense can’t help to improve the Dog D.

He transferred to UNM. He has already greyshirted but I don't think that has anything to do with the redshirt rules and will have to sit out a year. I hope he gets a chance and no outside things influences his playing time. Maybe having Howes on the UNM coaching staff will help. Good luck to you Josh.

If he can keep daddy away from the program he should be an ok player. Not speedy enough for UNM but maybe some special teams. The transfer is as a walkon. He is not getting a scholarship.
His uncle was one of the best defensive backs to ever play in Artesia. Had some incredible offers but chose D1AA Boise at the time. Was a 4 year starter there and part of a national title. Also ran track at Boise. Still lives in Boise. Had offers from big time schools. Not sure why he chose Boise. Great person. Don't know what happened to Dan though. He played at Cloudcroft and has had some run ins with the law and coaches along the way. Also had issues with being a legislator.
Not a lot of D1 talent in NM this year. I think Houghtaling can eventually earn a scholarship at NMSU. Just needs to work hard. It will come.

Thanks for the info Doggie but have to disagree with you on the speed comment. He was working out in LA with some pro players and DeShawn Jackson commented on his speed. If he gets a chance I think he will succeed.

Looking at the ht/wt of these kids returning next year and can’t help but be stunned at how undersized/small they are. My son’s Freshman team here in Texas is bigger than these kids and we are a smaller school than Artesia. The ‘96, ‘97 and ‘98 bulldog teams I played on all had good size, what the heck happened?

New head coach for RRHS is Gerrard (Geri) Pannoni from Lorton VA. He bought a house in RR and applied for the job. He had a successful 40 year run as head coach (no career record in article). His team won the 6A Virginia state championship last year going 15-0. Ther are 54 teams in the state in that division. Should increase the attendance for home games with all the Italian Americans in RR. I don't count I already go (LOL).

Holy Cow, 40 year run, that's a long time. found this short article, says he is a Virginia 3 time Hall of Fame Coach of the Year. Sounds like a good hire. www.krqe.com/sports/local-sports/gerard-pannoni-to-lead-rio-rancho-rams-football/

Hard to say, but to compare to those 3 years to me were some of the best years in athletics at Artesia High School, winning some titles in football, basketball, baseball and track. I'd have to say that was just the golden age lol.
