I mean it's a little weird, we talked about it some before in another thread, where Mayfield was joining 5A in Football only, but will be in the highest classification for all other sports. Different enrollment metrics for Football, so they can qualify for 5A football, but still enough enrollment for 5A in the other sports. Remember we have 6 Classes in Football, to me we just need to get rid of 6A Football, just go back to 5A being the highest class. Yes. This makes no sense. I can't even think of a good reason you would want to do this. Artesia is no longer part of the conversation for winning state championships so it sounds like sour grapes when we mention it but you would hope people in other parts of the state are asking these same questions.

That's an early start! August 21. Hope it happens What's the word in Texas about playing football ? UIL (Texas equivalent to NMAA) cancelled 7on7, however, as of right now, we are scheduled to start on time. Aug 3rd is the first day Schools can start practicing for fall sports.

Aug 3rd is the first day Schools can start practicing for fall sports. The UIL doesn't recognize 7 on 7 so it did not cancel it. 7 on 7 is it's own entity in Texas. But I'm sure there will be no state tournament for 7 on 7 in Texas. We are waiting word and expecting the UIL to loosen restrictions on summer workouts. Right now we are able to provide instruction for 2 hours a week in the summer. However, that must be 2 hours total, shared by all programs. We are expecting the UIL to loosen these restrictions a little bit. They have made no announcement about the fall of 2020, so it is as scheduled at the moment. I think a lot rides on how well we do as they begin to open up across the state. If it goes smoothly, we should expect it to remain on time.

How are you all doing in Title Town in regards to sports? I see Mr. Pitch and his Andrews football team are doing Zoom meetings with the team. Here at Southlake Carroll, our football coaches are holding position meetings weekly with the players ( mandatory ) as well as scheduled Zoom meetings with our Head Coach once or twice per month. They are going over old film, sending out workouts and ideas of how to stay in shape. Lots of our kids are working out in garages, home gyms, etc... From what I've seen, several of our kids are physically getting better. From what I hear, most all programs are doing the same as ours and what Mr. Pitch has described at Andrews. Simply put, all our opponents are meeting, watching film, and trying as best as possible to get bigger, stronger, and faster. IF we don't, when this opens up, we will fall far behind many of our opponents.
Our baseball coach is also still in contact weekly, even though that season is now officially over. Our baseball coach is a fantastic person, and I think he's staying in touch for camaraderie, hope, etc....Sadly, we didn't get a chance to defend our back to back 6A state baseball titles. Tonight we are doing our Varsity end of season banquet via a Zoom meeting. We are making the most out of a bad situation.
Hopefully you all are doing what you can, and we all get to play football in the fall. I was just curious how the HS coaches are handling things in NM. For us in Texas, it meetings, work, positive messages, and structure.

I heard Los Lunas and Belen were doing virtual meetings and posting workouts but that may just be rumor.

Haven't heard anything yet, what we can expect for the summer. School officially ended this past Friday.
Going to post a pic, I think this best explains the NMAA meeting on the 15th, NMAA will oversee all summer activities, won't be up to individual schools, NMAA will make call and they will go along with Governor guidelines.
Not related but I've seen some California colleges have already cancelled fall football, San Diego State, San Jose State, Fresno State.
If it's left up to the Governor, my thoughts still are we won't be playing football, unless some real game changer comes our way to treat this, son is working out, hope for the best, but expecting the worse.

Bit by bit things are opening up here in Texas. Soon, they are going to let us start off season workouts with groups of 10. Gyms opened up this week with all kinds of odd restrictions, but we are making progress. My boys along with several of the SLC kids have been working with a trainer 4-5 days per week from the start of this shutdown/lockdown. From what we are seeing on social media, most of our opponents are doing the same thing. So it's either find ways to work hard or get passed by our competition. In fact, I just saw where a freshman at Denton Ryan just bench pressed 285 and squatted over 400lbs. His numbers have increased 100 lbs. per lift during this "time off" Without school and nothing but time on their hands, several of the kids we know are taking advantage and are making huge gains. Then again, there are also lots of kids sitting around playing video games, eating pizza, and falling behind the hard workers.
Hopefully you all in Title Town can get things back on track soon as well! Let the quest for #31 begin in you all's garages, parking lots, and local parks if need be. Be safe and stay focused on goals!

Lake Ridge players have daily workouts from Strength and Conditioning Coach. They have Zoom meetings with position Coach. Now getting ready for June 8th opening for weights and on field workouts. Lots of things to be worked out. Thing I am hearing is schools are expecting a BIG influx of players from out of state when their state does not allow schools to open in Fall or Football. NMPreps had someone say the Governor is thinking of having online school again in Fall. How many of those D-1 kids will transfer to Texas to be able to play their SR year?

I saw this on social media, if this is true not looking good for us in nm. If it’s all left to the governor which it seems so, why I’m not optimistic about a season this fall without some game changing thing to combat the virus. My personal opinion on the virus, I’m over it. I do take the virus seriously, but for me and my immediate household , if we somehow got it I feel pretty secure we would recover. People with other high risk factors I believe should take extra caution and not be around others. To go back to normal it’s a risk I’m willing to take, like letting my kid drive a vehicle, there extra risk involved, but how many kids drive to school? Most of them. Here’s the post shared on fb.

If this is even remotely true, its not good at all!!

Workouts will likely start in June with restrictions. There will probably be football. The schools will decide as a group whether the season happens. The governor is listening to the schools which is the NMAA. July 1st is the actual start date for official workouts.
I think the season will happen with no fans. The State Department of Education was actually thinking of starting the school year earlier than normal. At that time they are looking at possibly starting the season early too. It's just their thoughts.
I love how people just go and make up stories and not paying real attention to what is being said. A good source is JR Null and his reports on KSVP.
Each state will treat this differently and rightfully so. There are different hot spots around the country and those that have higher rates of infections will need to slow things down.
My question to you and one I heard is, What happens if an athlete or athletes test positive during the season??? I actually am hearing the players unions of professional sports ask this question. Still many of those athletes are worried about contracting the virus.
Take politics out of this. Use facts and good judgement and think about families first. Think about grandma and grandpa.
Just some things to mull over during your quarantine.

I've had a busy day today, just catching up on all this that happened today, workouts can start jun 15th, there is a lot of guidelines here is the link, www.nmact.org/2020/05/nmaa-guidance-for-return-to-play/ which I don't know how you could really start anything jun 15th with all these rules besides simple workout, no weight room can be used. baseball/basketball in june but kids usually at the field house doing weights, throwing the ball, running routes etc. We need to enter phase 2 by July to have football workouts to my understanding, we are currently just starting phase 1. Super Dog some good questions to ponder, here are my own personal answers, if you're afraid or worried about getting the virus don't play, just playing football alone you're taking on extra risk, remember the Goddard player that was paralyzed at summer football last year, If you're not up to taking the chance don't play, to me that's an easy one. this one is tricky, If someone gets sick and test positive, for one obviously, that player will have to be removed and I'm guessing isolate for 14 days or to the extent of the guidelines and then return. If several kids get sick yeah that could be a serious problem and maybe that team has to shut it down, looks like a few other states are going this route Texas, Oklahoma, maybe we delay the start of the season and see how it goes for them or most definitely keep an eye on their summer approach when kids start working out again together. For me and my family, I don't think it does my kids any good sitting at home, I want them back in school and learning. My mother is more vulnerable than most, she had respiratory problems in the past, pneumonia, if they are back in school, going to see grandma won't happen for awhile. To me everyone just going to have to access their own personal risk, some people ride motorcycles, you will never catch me on one, their is a flu vaccine, but you can still get it. Maybe a vaccine comes for this, but you can still catch it? maybe just something we have to live with from now on, or maybe a lot of people need to get it to build immunity up to it I mean who knows. Hopefully there comes at least some therapeutics to help older people who get this, I'm heartbroken over the deaths, we had 1 in our community, that definitely scared me some. From what I've seen and taken in though, I'm ready to get back closer to normal, anyone who's got health issues, I say take extra pre-cautions for yourself and keep isolating and hopefully some good news comes our way to treat this soon. To each their own, just my approach currently. This doesn't even concern a lot of the schools budget shortfalls next year, that could be a huge issue as well. What a year it's been.
