Question? Where was the 1975 game played at? Looks like a baseball stadium. I remember that it was played wherever the Albuquerque Dukes played. I was 9 years old. This was the game where 2 historic Bulldog plays occurred. Rapid may have to help me out here. As I said Iwas 9 years old. St. Pius was in control late in the game and fumbled. Roy "Rapid" Lawson recovered the ball, which set up The 2nd of the 2 historic plays. Jerry Brown threw a pass to Corey Tolle to take the lead and the win. Corey was on his back as he had slipped in the wet conditions. I don't have time to look right now so I can't time stamp it. If I remember right, you can't actually see Corey make the catch on film. This stadium, as previously mentioned is a baseball stadium and was not the best place in the world to view or film a game. On a side note, I remember Corey intercepting a pass and being forced out of bounds. The field crew had laid down plywood for the teams to stand on. When his foot hit the plywood it was slippery from the rain and he busted his tail pretty good. I could have this memory jumbled up. Maybe Corey or Coach Allen remembers this. I'm sure Coach Allen being Coach Allen let Corey know about this after the fact.

The game was played at the old Albuquerque Sports Stadium....home of the Triple-A Albuquerque Dukes. That stadium is no longer there, it was demolished and replaced with the current Isotopes Park. I'm not sure if Isotopes Park was built on the exact same site at the old Albq Sports Stadium, or not. If not then it was built right across the street.....same major intersection. I went to this game my senior year at Artesia High......I sat about mid-way down the 3rd base line.

The thing about the fumble is that Pius had an animal D-Linemen and O-Linemen that had been a FB the year before. Coach Giannini knew the game was his with so little time left on the clock and he moved the Linemen to FB to honor him and give him one last carry. HE FUMBLED IT. Coach Giannini for years in Coaching School and would come up to me and ask me to kick him in the butt for the most dumb mistake ever in HS football. Coach G was a very good man and died a few years ago from a heart attack

Crispy-Isotopes stadium is on the exact same site as the old Dukes stadium. The only thing that is the same is home plate and some things outside the stadium. While the new stadium is nice, one of the best minor league stadiums in the country, I have fond memories of the old place. General admission seats, $3 beers and you could take food in. The late Pat Mckiernan was the general manager and did a great job. I was stationed at Kirtland, a couple miles away, and one year, I think 1981 they had a great team with Mike Marshall and Candy Maldonado. I went to 34 home games and they went 30-4. Might have been 83, don't have a memory anymore. Off topic I know but brought back good memories.

Thank Crispy, I remember the game a hard fought ball game. st pius was leading 17-0 at the middle of the 3rd quarter. In the 4th quarter our offense scores 2 touchdown and an extra point make it 17-15 Our offense drove to st. pius 20 yard line where they was stop by st. pius defense by a fourth down and one with only 1:51 left in the game. Our defense forced a fumble on St. Pius' first offensive play and recovered the ball to give Artesia one more shot at the crown. With first and ten on the St. Pius 18, Quarterback Jerry Brown faked to David Thompson and dropped back to throw a play-action pass to Corey Tolle, who was standing all alone in the end zone, The throw was a little short, Corey managed the catch to make it 22-17.Our defense ate up the st. pius passing attack in the closing second of the ball game and Corey pulled down an interception to end St. Pius attempt. The Bulldog had done it again-- come-behind win ... The 1974 playoff game vs Tularosa. Tularosa was leading 23-6 half time another hard fought game, Artesia went on beat Deming for state 23-0

Happy Friday, got a special one for you today. The 1974 State Champions, they went undefeated that year 13-0. One of only a handful of teams to go wire to wire unblemished. I will post their schedule and scores, held several opponents scoreless including Deming in the title game with a 23-0 Victory.

Yeah lots of familiar names on that list, FB Jackie Clifton is my cousin Jimmy's uncle, he played at the University of Wyoming after High School. Not to mention Rapid Roy!! Keith Butler, never heard of his playing days but his military accomplishments were impressive, died defending our country several years back. Died in Afghanistan as a contractor to the CIA, 37 years in the Military.
