Don't know if anyone still reads this forum anymore but I'll post what happened this afternoon. December 1st at 1:30pm, the NMAA held a meeting with the football coaches from around the state to update them on the whats in store for the sports and activities this coming year. Sally said she's not throwing in the towel, not yet anyway. - If the governor doesn't give the OK to play by February 1st then the NMAA will throw in the towel.
- 7 weeks of football; including the playoffs. So 4 games then 3 playoff games. Which means district games only to some. But they may have to "re-district" teams for this year. In other words play teams in your area to limit travel. Possibility of having a for example a 6A division 1 state tournament and a 6A division 2 state tournament 5A division 1 and 5A division 2 ect... Divisions would be determined by enrollment numbers.
- For students that have failed they would have an appeal process for those who had trouble with virtual learning or lack of internet. But ONLY for those who struggled with virtual learning, not for those who didn't attend class.

Rest assured, this place is still fairly active. I'm here every day........lurking! Not as active as it would be if football season was happening, but this site is definitely NOT dead. Been some pretty interesting topics come up over the last few weeks. I'm sure others will agree!
And as for the info you provided......Thanks!

I used to be optimistic, but not anymore, can't see us playing next year. If she won't let businesses be open she sure isn't going to let kids play a game, I think some kids know it too and have moved on, gotten jobs, sad state of events.

what are you're thoughts BDC? how are things in Deming ? And we are all here BDC, just not much to talk about with no sports lol. I don't see it happening. Just being honest. Kids aren't attending work outs like they were at the start. We started in the summer with 45-50 kids now we are down to 5. I'm sure everyone is having the same issue. One coach (won't name the school) said that he probably couldn't field a team cause his kids would be ineligible. What do the kids have to look forward to now? Its like working a job and not being paid. There is no payoff. I go to class, get good grades so I can play sports. If I can't play sports, I'll go and get a job and make some money. Whether by choice or they need to to help support mom and dad who might have been laid off. And there is nothing wrong with that. I came to the point 2 months ago that I was not going to make myself sick and worry about it. I'll continue to attend my zoom classes, attend our morning work outs cause I'm a creature of habit.

I don't want this topic to turn political..........but what the heck, it is ALREADY political. Besides, there is no football to talk about! I just found this video a few minutes after reading BigDaddyCool's most recent comment, and BDC's comment and this video just seem to go hand-in-hand. This is a video of Tucker Carlson talking about school closures from just a couple of days ago. And I agree with Tucker 110%. This really got me fired up. This is absolutely infuriating!!! There is some other stuff at the beginning of the video, but he gets to the main topic in just a little over one minute.

Thanks for you're input BDC, and being honest. Being a parent of one student athlete myself right now I know the struggles they all face. This has just been a disaster and a failure of our youth by the state of new mexico, hate to say that but it's the truth. These kids are much worse off than ever. I feel you're pain to BDC, hang in there brother, keep fighting the good fight.

I cant see how they get to play when they aren't even going to be in school. All we can do is encourage our kids and staff to keep putting their best foot forward day in and day out.

I have been noticing over the last few weeks, school buses parked at all of the Artesia schools with messages written all over the bus windows. Just wondering if anybody else has seen them. And also wondering what that is all about. Anybody know?

And also wondering what that is all about. Anybody know? I think I've seen those in front of the schools, says You are not alone ? or something like that. just trying to encourage the kids, i'll post a picture I saw Coach Lynn from Roswell High Post, like bdc said, kids have lost hope, given up, hate to say it but I know a couple kids haven't done any school work all year, nothing, nada. This is insane, just goes to show how important teachers, coaches are, sometimes that's all some kids have to push them and motivate them.

2 Sport athlete in Hobbs committed suicide. 4.0 student, great kid with tons of friends and depression was too much. We must let our kids know that we are there for them and if they are hurting we must help them.

My Son in Law is HC at Santa Fe High. He has a stud group of Juniors and Sophomores. He has been building them since he took over program. Now during no school or practices they have 62% of kids with at least 1 F. During the time they could work out it was 20%. Several schools have good football players dropping out of school and getting jobs to help family out with finances all over NM.

We must let our kids know that we are there for them and if they are hurting we must help them. He was a junior, same as my son, so I've seen this kid around over the years. It's a shame. So much I want to say in a negative ticked off way, Governor makes no mention of this the other day, and the failure of so many students in the classroom. It's clear this policy has been worthless to New Mexico youth. Even I feel hopeless in this situation, what can we do? nothing, except move away.

Incredibly sad, it's been on my mind all week. My son learned of it Monday night on Social Media, he just ran in the house and told me, just the look of dismay in his eyes, disbelief, it hurt us, shook us. www.chapelofhopefunerals.com/obituary/Kooper-DavisThere was a nice showing of support by a lot of the local towns, athletic buses showed up in hobbs with messages written on the windows. I'll see if I can share that here, was on FB and Twitter.
