Artesia (0-1) vs Goddard (0-0) Ok this is going to be a Saturday game scheduled for 1pm kickoff in Artesia, of course this is a fluid situation as last week game moved to Hobbs and fans could attend. The COVID updates come out on Wed or Thursday so there is a chance we can have fans at the game Saturday if our county moves into the yellow, if we are still in the red maybe the potential to play the game in Roswell ? if not be at home with no fans and watch via ksvp stream. As for the game, Artesia has a game under their belt, this will be Goddard 1st game, believe it's because they entered hybrid school a week later than us. Goddard has won the last 2 district contest, winning 34-46/2019 and 28-31/2018 JV-A is schedule to play Hobbs Thursday in Artesia, I'll update time when I find out and update if fans can attend, news\updates as they come available.

cool, so we can have fans for Saturday. Heard Superintendent say Bulldog Bowl is rated at 7,500 and we can have 25% of that, so I think that is 1,875 fans.
Have to see how they distribute the tickets.
update Tickets will be sold Thursday from 7:30am-12:00 at the Athletic office for football and cheerleader parents. Tickets limited to 5 per person.
Tickets will be sold to the general public at the Athletic Office from 12:30-4:00pm on Thursday to the General Public and 7:30-2:00-pm on Friday until tickets sell out.
General admission tickets are $5

Couldn't stop the run as usual. They need to start playing players on offense and defense. Also they are once again undersized. Goddard had a running back that was probably about 200 pounds, only guys bigger on Artesia was was defensive line. The wind had a bad effect on the offense, but they need to figure out something on defense. Same story, different year.

22-50 i believe. The game seemed closer than that, at least until towards the end.

Tough game for the Dogs. The game did seem a little closer than 50-22, especially when you consider even the score was close until late in the 3rd qtr. However I’m sure the stat line would suggest that the score could have been even worse. Goddard had to average nearly 10 yards per carry, and honestly completely bullied us all over the field on both sides of the ball. The Dogs were no match for their physicality. Offensively the Bulldogs had 3 interceptions and turned the ball over on downs four times. The wind was terrible and played a big role in our woes. I hate to say that Covid has made it a year where everyone is just happy to see the kids play, and results don’t matter as much. While this seems to be the narrative, I do think we have reason to have concerns. While Artesia has always struggled (Defensively) against power run teams, we usually outlast those teams because so many go both ways. Yesterday Goddard punished us into submission and literally got stronger as the game went on. The program is changing, and that’s not always a good thing. I was very surprised to see so many players wearing visors on their helmets, and even more surprised watching kids taking off their helmets on the sidelines. These are things that were not allowed when my son played just a few years ago. I’ll always be rooting for them Dogs, I guess I’m just not ready to slip into irrelevance.

Bulldogs NEVER take their helmets off from the time they leave the locker room until the time they return. If players were in fact removing helmets on the sidelines......well, that is a problem that needs to be addressed. That is TOTALLY unacceptable!

I hear the rumblings amongst the neighbors and people around town. The program has declined from day 1 of the new regime! There has to be change now or our heritage and proud program might never recover. You have to have a coach that students respect. We do not have this! Kids leaving the program and coach’s not respecting the program and what has been built.. kids taking there helmets off on the sideline... WTH is going on. Program has been killed and it’s a sad thing to witness. It’s not all about winning but it is nice... I want the respect that was once a given from kids to coach’s and coaches to kids..kids do not wanna play for the current. I’ve seen so many coaches leave that would have been great steward of our tradition. Names don’t make programs. Stubbornness destroys them

Guys I don't get the upset over kid wearing a visor or taking off a helmet? The wind and dirt was everywhere, it's tradition to keep helmet on sideline I understand, when you wear a mask and dirt everywhere, maybe had to wipe you're face off, dirt in eyes etc, Not that big a deal to me, especially given the conditions yesterday, that's just me.
For the game itself, Defense had 4 stops first half, we scored 0 points in return of those stops, we turned it over 2 or 3 times during the game as well, gave Rockets extra opportunities. It was 22-14 midway through 3rd quarter.
Supposed to be one of Goddards better teams from what my friends say, I know the JR class was certainly stout in previous games, insane they won't be able to play for anything this year, that's got to hurt.
Not trying to make excuses, plenty of work to do on both sides of the ball, Roswell and Hobbs next, should be winnable games in my opinion. see what happens.
Hey Rick, sending you a message, friend of yours I saw at the game.

You're probably right, I didn't think about that. I am just worried about losing our traditions. I have heard that the new coach doesn't care that much for our traditions. Did anybody notice last week against Carlsbad that there was NO DOG PILE??? I sure as heck did, and just a little surprised that has not been mentioned on here! Didn't see the beginning of the Goddard game, so not sure if there was a Dog Pile or not. Like I said, just worried about our traditions! The first time I see a couple...or more...of Bulldogs walking up the losers ramp after a game with their helmets in their hands I will probably go ape sh#t monkey nuts! I went to a high school football game in Texas back around 1978 or so......Fort Worth Western Hills vs Fort Worth Dunbar. I will never forget seeing players playing grab-azz with the cheerleaders, and even sitting with their girlfriends in the stands during the game if they were not on the field. And the coaches didn't even care! I just don't want our program to get to that point.

I get what you all are saying I do, it's a discipline thing and tradition, I didn't notice it yesterday, was looking back at some of the game, I saw a couple but it wasn't off for more than 20-30 seconds? I know me myself I was under the press box and kept my hoodie pulled over my head and sunglasses on to shield myself as much as possible, still felt covered in dirt when I got home, had to shower and wash that off Yeah the dog pile was a covid decision to my understanding, the boys are in a pile anyways on the field, I really don't get it, but I can live with that call for this season. I love Artesia, we all got high standards, we all want to win, way it should be and never want to see that go.

Going to post some scores from around the state, not going to matter too much as no playoffs, seedings, state title games for football. Lovington defeats Hobbs 28-25 (Lovington 2-0, not too shocked cats defeat eagles, lovington got a dang good roster and some athletes, they would have been title contenders this year in 4A, should be next year as well, have Rockets next that will be a tough battle for them) Roswell defeats Carlsbad 24-14 (We got the 2x defending champs in Bulldog Bowl this coming friday, I'll start game thread tomorrow.) Las Cruces defeats Mayfield 23-6 (Wanted to keep my eye on the Trojans figured they would be in mix this year since moving down to 5A, they should be a threat next year is my guess) Cleveland defeats Clovis 45-15 (Storm is in my opinion one of the top ran programs in the state for Football) Rio Rancho defeats Santa Fe 57-6 (no surprise, board member Mikemoe leaving New Mexico for Arizona soon, avid RR Rams fan they got Clovis and then the Storm, should be good games) Alamogordo defeats Ruidoso 37-12. (Our district opponent Alamo, 2-0 beat Bloomfield 16-14 in 1st game, no game with them this year, unless it's the game 5 and that's to be determined)

The only RR game I will be able to make is this Sat vs Clovis. I put a call into RR football office with no return yet. Does anybody know how it works for the 25% of fans, is it first come first serve or will I have to get them early. I listened to the first half of Clovis at Cleveland and you are right Randall they are the top program in the state dont think anybody will come close to beating them this year. Yes I am moving to AZ in a couple weeks, pray for me that my marriage survives, she wants to keep everything and I say "when in doubt throw it out or donate".

Mike here so far you had to get the tickets in advance from the athletic office, no sales at the gate. They give parents first dibs then sale to the public, I think we had plenty of tickets for saturday still, but it was a nasty day too, might have kept some at home.
lol I agree mike, I moved 4 blocks a few years back and it sucked, got twice as much stuff now, couldn't imagine dragging it all to another state, good luck!

RR new Coach had been working his kids out in full units for 4 weeks. Santa Fe High followed rules and had only 4 days as set by State. Santa Fe lost 7 starters due to injuries in first half. It was a mid season team going against a scrimmage ready team
