I guess I should qualify this whole deal with, as far as I'm concerned, a job in Carlsbad is a step down from anywhere. Because, well... it's Carlsbad. As many of you know, I grew up in a house where the mentioning of that name indoors was sacrilegious. You did not say anything other than, "that town south of us." I am my parents son. That is funny you say that. I’m a “move in”- and from my perspective I see the rivalry taken much more serious in “that town down south!” Sure Artesia fans want to win, but not nearly like Carlsbad. Carlsbad hates Artesia….. Bradley could have coached the Cavemen forever, his job wasn’t in jeopardy- because he beats Artesia (4 yrs in a row). Right now in their field house is a clock counting down the days to the Artesia game. Go to the Elks, and talk with the old timers…. It is literally the only game of the season they care about. Watch the players and coaches in celebration after their recent victories….. I’m telling you that game is much more important to them!! Getting to know Artesians over the years- it seems Goddard is the Bulldogs most disliked foe. Carlsbad is just an afterthought……. I always chalked it up to, Artesia has bigger goals every year. Blue trophies are more important than County bragging rights!! I would say that's a fair assessment, doesn't mean we don't want to win but Carlsbad a bigger school too, it looks bad to get beat by a smaller school. It was nobody that said in Carlsbad thread, truthfully they should beat us most years, counting enrollment for every athlete we have carlsbad should have 2. I guess nobody deleted his account, certainly didn't want that because of that squabble about the roswell game, but I feel he was spot on with that. I think the tide will turn with Carlsbad, I see us going on a winning streak. I would say you are right about Goddard as well being our biggest rival, that win against them this year was refreshing, I'd rather have that win than a win over carlsbad for sure.

I learned dislike for Carlsbad at an early age. One of my brother in laws who played for the Bulldogs graduated in 1950. On occasion he would say he was going home to flush the toilet so people in Carlsbad could get a drink of water. 😃 lol

I'm sure Carlsbad's new coach already is being indoctrinated on the evilness of That Town North of Us.
Tom, I always figured your dad never never never was president of the Artesia chapter of the Dave Perini Fan Club.

As heated as the Artesia/Carlsbad rivalry is today, believe it or not it was even worse back in the '50s......'60s......and early '70s. Because back then Artesia was in the biggest classification in the state. We were in a district with Carlsbad, Roswell, Goddard, Hobbs, and Clovis. Back then when we played Carlsbad it actually meant something! Can you imagine playing Carlsbad for the district championship? The rivalry was insane back then! Way worse than today.

If you played in Phipps-Harvey era you would know that Carlsbad is one of the BIG games of the year. You would also know that it doesn't matter how many A's they have next to their name we were going to fight them to the very last whistle and physically punish them on both sides of the ball.
