Well, I talked to my buddy Dusty Young with NMAA and they already had several calls but not all came from Artesia,,,LOL He told me NMAA had got with NSHS officials and it seems there was another camera at the Piedra Vista field that had been left turned ON and it was picking up the feed from the NFHS stream,,,,? THAT is why some of the paid customers were able to pick the clean strean from NFHS,,and others were getting the stream from the Piedra Vista camera,,? THAT is why we did not have audio or timeclock or scores and stream was 4-6 plays behind Joby and KSVP. I asked Dusty, since this HAS HAPPENED before, why the schools couldn't provide their own stream as KSVP was much better. He did agree that KSVP had all their ducks in the row but NMAA had a long term contract with NFHS and NFHS has assurred NMAA that this would not be an issue again,,,,? Dusty stated that if anyone wanted a refund and received any questions from HFHS to contact him and NMAA would re=inmburse the paid amount, no questions asked!! I told him I Insisted on a refund as I am pretty sure this HAS happened twice before and HFHS has to be held accountable so they can and WILL make dang sure they provide as good a service as they do for the northern schools,LOL I could see him smiling from here,,,,,,,,,,,,Hope this helps. #32, Where are you? I know many Bulldog Fans will not like hearing this, but the remedy to situations like what happened with NFHS is to have all the state games played at one central location like Texas does at Jerry World. Bally Sports SW, formerly Fox Sports SW, broadcasts every Texas state football game nationally with a veteran broadcast team. NM could do that with an Alb News affiliate as well. It also gives the kids national exposure to college recruiters. Countless TX athletes have received D1 college scholarships as a result of their performance at the state game due to the games being nationally televised. I know it’s a sensitive topic in Artesia; however, it is worth considering. Go attend Tx state game weekend in Dallas, it’s quite the experience. NM kids are being overlooked because they’re not getting the exposure that other states get. What happened with the broadcast on Saturday was a disgrace. These kids deserve better.

Makes sense; however playing football in Artesia is a tradition that is heartfelt when you’re a young boy going to watch the regular season games, which then it escalates to watch the playoffs/State championship at the Bulldog Bowl or listening to it on the radio a I did watching the likes of Robby Ballew, Alfredo Navarrette, Scott Runyan, Jeff Sanders, Sammy Rodriguez I could go on and on and on. This led me to believe in my heart to believe in myself to become the best football player that I could be to experience all that I saw as a kid personally one day of which thank God that actually occurred for me to play safety for the Dogs in the mid 80’s and now watching my son #43 play the same position 35 years later. Football is religion in Texas as I saw it personally watching my older boy play in Granbury, where ironically my defensive coordinator as a bulldog was their AD Coach Dwight Butler. Football is hige in Texas but Artesia football is huge in NM and in my opinion nationally based on Bulldog success and definitely tradition. I realize that change is inevitable with everything in life, and we have no control if NMAA decides to do that and change the playoff system in Albuquerque, but it would be a sad day for the Artesia Bulldog culture overall. I don’t feel that exposure for these kids is a valid reason to happily except that type of change, because if a Bulldog is that talented via Landry Jones, they’ll go big and is they are great players they’llget picked up locally such as the 2 last year that went to NMMI and countless others in the past that went to ENMU,NMSU( Current Bulldog DC Jordan Rodriguez lineman for NMSU), Western NM, NM Highlands, panhandle Texas college s, (Texas Tech- a teamate of mine full ride to Texas Tech running back Michael McPherson). Just my opinion and everyone is entitled to their opinion, so I am objective to your point as I understand that that centralizing of the playoffs may occur.

NFSH Network is just one arm of a large corporation based in Indianapolis. They cover all major sports for both boys and girls nationwide. They are doing over 20,000 events this week. I’m afraid we may have been spoiled by the quality of KSVP filming. From their website: Broadcast Effortlessly We broadcast your events for you with fully automated cameras. You won’t need to staff anyone for filming or even to turn on the equipment. www.nfhsnetwork.com/sbp

With all those names you mentioned, there are countless others that were overlooked. I’ll use Urlacher as an example. Had that 1995 state game been nationally televised and had he been given exposure, he would’ve had numerous offers from Blueblood power 5 schools, and not just UNM. Same for players like David Patterson, TY Houghtaling, Jeff Houghtaling, and Terrance Holmes, just to name a few. Landry got his offers because his parents spent the money to take him to all those QB camps, which led to an Elite 11 QB invite and national attention. I commend his family for doing that; however, many kids don’t have that luxury. Recruiting is a lot different now than it was in the 70s & 80s. Recruiters now rely on elite camps, national exposure, and 247/rivals rankings. Can’t get ranked on 247 or rivals if you don’t get national exposure. Artesia will still get to play playoff games at home. I just think all the state games should be centrally located in one weekend for TV and recruiting exposure. It would also allow fans to watch Artesia teams play live that may have never seen the Bulldogs play. Food for thought.

Just my opinion, and correct me if I am wrong.......but Bulldog Bowl is a MUCH nicer stadium than UNM Stadium where the Lobos play. The ONLY thing that UNM Stadium has over Bulldog Bowl is seating capacity. Upgrade Bulldog Bowl to where it seats 50,000 and The Bowl is 10X the stadium that UNM Stadium is. NOT suggesting that Bulldog Bowl be upgraded to 50,000 seats.......that would be absolutely MORONIC! But I think you all get my point.
Oh, and I had totally forgotten that Michael McPhearson went to Texas Tech on a full ride. How did his career go there? I honestly don't remember. Did he get much playing time? And didn't they convert him to a DB or something like that? I don't know, maybe I am thinking of Jeff Houghtling.....I know that Jeff played QB for the Bulldogs......but UNM converted him to a DB.

I see your point and realize that everything s changed regarding recruiting etc. I feel NMAA will eventually make it the way you are describing, so my comments are pretty much irrelevant. My brothers son Braxton McDonald was given scholarships for football and baseball at small colleges in Texas and NM, but chose to get a preferred wLk on to NMSU wherhe is a slot receiver on roster as a sophomore. Jeff and Ty played D1 in NM,(UNM/NMSU but maybe with things back then are like they are now they might have played QB for Texas Teck , Kansas Sate, BYU who knows. Its great to be a Bulldog however it goes. Ps. My junior year Clay Foster and I were Jrs and won a state championship in Baseball. That year, the year before and my senior year the state tournament was in Artesia so i guess it woulyhave been fun going to Albuquerque. Foster and I received scholarships to play baseball at the College of the Southwest:::if the tourney was in Albuquerque who knows 😊 Its good to put it out there like you did because it maybe a reality one day

I DO NOT like the idea of scheduling the State game in Albuquerque for one main reason. All the schools outside of the Albuquerque city limits will ALWAYS be the "VISITORS" pitted against the huge city crowds when one of the teams is from one of the 20 or so Albuquerque teams. I do not mind traveling all the way to Farmington when the Bulldogs are playing for State because next time we meet them,THAT game will be played in Bulldog Bowl! I KNOW whenever a bond issue comes up,, the improvements at the Bowl are always the BIG selling point on the bond. My vote is No, No,,, and NO!!

The NMAA and the NFHS partnership has been a disaster for years. We hear the same old B.S. excuses every time. There is no excuse they should cancel the “long term contract” for lack of performance. As for the one location solution, we don’t have a Jerry World and even if we did NFHS coverage would still suck.

I"m sure they are talking about a fixed camera where it sees all the action and doesn't need adjusted, which would be ideal, but that was not the case last week and for football I think that's kind of hard to pull off, can do it with basketball, baseball, etc.

Kids getting recruited out of NM has nothing to do with lack of visibility and everything to do with lack of talent. Heck, in 5a ball they are lucky to have the same 3-4 teams every year play each other to see who wins. Half the teams in the playoff couldn't beat a peewee team in TX. Think of it as being the smartest dumb kid. Just because you win doesn't make you good.

About 7% of student athletes play college ball at any level. 2% play at the Division 1 level. High School sports is not about getting a scholarship or getting exposure on a national level. It’s about team building, relationships that last a lifetime and making good citizens. Traditions, Friday night lights, family, hometowns and rivalries. In the grand scheme of things I would rather be the smartest dumb kid with 31 State Championships than one of the 7% playing college ball.

Probably areas and schools that will generate the highest revenue through advertising.
