The United State wins the medal count 104, China is 2nd with 87.
Impressions from the games.
Michael Phelps was still pretty good, even though he may not have trained as hard. Most decorated olympian ever 22 medals, not bad. Says he will retire.
Usain Bolt didn't drop off either, be interesting if he can do it again in 4 years.
USA women dominated in basketball winning gold, the Men did too but I couldn't believe the game was that close with Spain, all they had was the Gasol brothers, glad they pulled it off, about the only time I'll root for Kobe and Lebron lol. Still don't think they could take the original dream team but I believe the competition is better than back then as well.

Of course Usain Bolt didn't drop off, there was no indication he would. 2016 will be the time to wonder if he can keep it up.
People forget that Tyson Gay has also ran 9.69, equaling what Bolt ran in Beijing, but no one else has nearly as close, not even Yohan Blake. I'm glad Blake made the big time, been a fan of his for nearly 2 years, before anyone knew who he was.

That's right, Tyson Gay set the American record. I think Bolt will be a favorite again in Rio, somebody said sprinters can keep getting better till about 28, Bolt will be 28 fixing to turn 29 in Rio.

That's about right. That kid Ryan Bailey that anchored our 4x100 has potential.

What's the sport they play it's like hockey but they were pushing a ball around with hockey sticks lol. Looked like a tough sport to play, no pads or anything, saw one guy get whacked pretty good. If they can play that why not baseball or softball.

I realize I'm probably being prejudiced but I believe they eliminated baseball and softball because the USA was too dominant in the sports. I'm sure basketball would be eliminated if it wasn't so popular in Europe.
We played field hockey in junior high PE and I hated it! We all went around for a month with bruised shins. I admit I'm spastic but even the athletic girls had bruises. The USA isn't very good in field hockey and I don't think men or women had teams playing handball.
The “sport” I don't get is rhythmic gymnastics. I mean, they’re very limber and can catch a ball, etc., but … Looks like modern dance to me.
I have to disagree about the synchronized swimming. Have you ever watched how much training they put in? I saw a special on it once and I was amazed. I just wish they didn’t dress so funny ... I know one year Carl Lewis or some other Hoo-Hah in Olympic sports went to a practice and couldn't even last for one day. Those girls put in 10 hour work days. Personally, I'm impressed that they cannot only hold their breath that long, but (without ever touching the bottom of the pool) can throw other girls five feet in the air! Talk about strength and endurance training.
I also really like equestrian. The dressage stuff is silly, but I love the jumping events. Especially cross country.

Thank goodness it's only every four years, because NBC goes into its overkill mode with certain events (I refuse to refer to some of those as sports).
After the first 10 days, thanks to NBC's primetime programming choices, I got real tired (real fast) of beach volleyball, women's gymnastics, Michael Phelps and diving.
Nothing against those athletes, but NBC often beats certain things to death.
After a while, all those bikini-clad butts started looking alike.
Sport or not a sport? One wag told me if you need music to do it, it isn't a sport.
I know a high school football coach who thinks soccer isn't a sport but rather a Commie game.

I agree on the volleyball and diving, ugh. NBC ramming it down our throats. IMO the swimming and all that other crap the first week is just filler until the real Olympics start...the track and field.

That's it godogs field hockey, looked like a hard game to play, don't seem like it would be fun at all.
I liked watching the Water Polo, we would play that sometimes in off-season football when we got to go to the pool, it was fun until you had the ball and 3 guys jump on you and try to drown you lol.
Yeah the USA was not the dominant team in baseball, I had to look it up but in 08 Olympics South Korea got gold, cuba silver, usa got bronze beating japan. These games are during the summer so only the best minor league players are playing usually, but even if MLB players played I doubt USA would be the dominant team. Seems like the best players come from overseas.
In Softball the women took Silver in 08, but I think they usually fared better than the men and always in the hunt for gold.
Not sure why they scraped it.

Actually I think it was scrapped due to the direct conflict with baseball being a summer sport and the summer olympics being, well, SUMMER olympics. There was a definite disconnect between other sports being represented by the absolute best, and baseball was not. Led to low interest. An American team Texiera, ARod, Sabathia, Pujols, Hamilton, etc. can play with anyone. I heard this stated and checked. Pujols, to my dismay, is an American.

There is nothing more patriotic rick than drinking a few beers and watching those bikini clad butts, I for one did my part. I'm a baseball guy so I was pissed the IOC banned my sport, I think it had more to do with me mowing these mexicans down south of the border in the Mexican League. so they said no mas we don't want to face Kenny Powers and team USA. I was on the roids pretty hard in mexico, since testing is almost non existent down there, so that sums it up it was Kenny Powers vs the world and the world backed down. I thought they were going to get pole dancing in its place, of course you have to perform to music, sorry rick. Oh another thing, I've seen a few crackheads in Shelby NC that could out run Bolt. Hell they could jump a 6ft fence and still beat him in time. Not sure what the big deal is about this guy, and his style kinda sucks, he's no showman like Kenny Powers. God Bless the USA. USA USA USA
