Anyone remember this? found it on YouTube.
In November 1992, a severe snowstorm in southern New Mexico prevented the Artesia Bulldog cheerleaders, students, family, fans and radio broadcasters from attending the championship game against the Kirtland Central Broncos at Kirtland. This championship game was to be played with virtually empty stands on the Artesia side of the field.
With no radio broadcasters there was no way for students, family and fans, stranded back in Artesia to listen to play-by-play or even receive any game updates.
At the time my family & I were visiting my cousin, Keith Megill (the "Sports Voice of Northern New Mexico") in Espanola, NM. Keith received a call with a desperate appeal to make the several hour drive over snow covered roads to Kirtland to broadcast the game for the Bulldogs.
Keith, my son Dustin & I made the journey arriving after the game had already begun. Keith did play-by-play & I did a bit of color commentary. Twelve year old Dustin captured this video of portions of the game. Sadly the tape ran out just before the end of the game, but what a game it was!
For most of the game it was all Kirtland and late in the fourth quarter it was nearly a rout. But then the Bulldogs came storming back, winning the game in overtime! What a game! What a game!
I have never been to Artesia, New Mexico, but I will forever be an ARTESIA BULLDOG FOOTBALL FAN!

That was my first year in Artesia. I remember listening to that game on the radio. It was an unbelievable comeback!

Yes, I remember this game like it was yesterday. I remember the highway being closed down and Artesia fans not being able to get to Kirtland, except for those who headed up there a day or two early. I remember the KSVP broadcast crew being stranded in the snow and having to turn around and come back to Artesia. I remember listening to the play-by-play guy from Espanola and how excited he got, almost lost his voice by the end of the game. I remember how we were down by a LOT late in the game, and came storming back to win it in overtime. I also remember practically wearing a hole in the living room carpet as I paced back and forth listening to the game on the radio. I remember this game as the most exciting, most gut wrenching Bulldog football game that I ever heard OR saw. The 4th quarter, and the overtime, of this game were almost unbearable to listen to. It was that intense! The only other game that even comes close is the Tularosa game in 1974, and I saw that one in person so I know of what I speak!
I saw that Tularosa game in person at The Bowl in '74 (I was a junior) and I never thought I would ever see anything like it again. Thought I had seen it all. Until that KC game of 1992. Boy was I ever wrong!
Randall, I saw this video probably 6 months ago and watched the whole thing without reading the description first. In the description the guy says that his battery went dead so he missed the end of the game. I was going to put the video on here back then, but I was so disappointed that the video didn't show the Dogs winning in overtime that I decided what's the use!
And just one more thing.........the description says that this was the State Title game. This was a play-off game, but it was NOT the State Title game. The 1992 State Title game was played at The Bowl against Raton a few weeks later, in December.

Who was the HC for the 'dogs in that game? Whoever did the play calling did a heckuva job. HC for the Dogs in that game was Cooper Henderson. Coach Henderson's first year coaching in Artesia was 1989. So this would have been his 4th year. The play-by-play guy was Keith Megill from Espanola, and yes he did a heck of a job! I seem to remember hearing something about him coming to Artesia where he was introduced at an AHS pep assembly. He was presented with some kind of an award and they made him an "honorary Bulldog for life", or something like that. Basically gave him the key to the city and the school.

That's right it was a playoff game, I vaguely remember it. The State game against Raton I remember, I was there for it.

I listened on the radio. Definitely a classic. I was listening in the bedroom and the rest of the family was in the living room. They came rushing in cause I was screaming so much, afraid I was dying from that widely known yet rarely seen coniption fit. What a game!
