TO THE EDITOR: We as residents of Artesia, who have pets, have finally had our prayers answered by the heavens. Someone up there has listened to our precious pets agonizing squeals and watched their uncontrollable shivering. Friday nights around this town during football season are a frightening time for the poor dogs and cats that have to hear the BOOM made by those fireworks. They run to hide in a corner or under a bed or if they are outside they go absolutely ballistic... trying to get away from that terrible sound! There is a time and a place for things of that nature... but yes there comes a time when you have over done yourself... and we know that it's not going to please everyone that this is finally coming to an end. I just know that this decision to curtail this event is going to make a lot of ''Pet Owners and Pets'' very happy. That will also spill over to many Seniors in our community that live in close proximity of these events... that were never polled as to how they felt about all the Hullabaloo made over a touchdown...

Bah Humbug Speaking of pets, I got a new dog a couple weeks ago. He is a red heeler so we named him Red. I didn't think I would get another heeler but after I saw his eyes I was sunk, I'm a sucker. He's been a good dog so far, hopefully he likes fireworks being in this family lol.

Looks like he may have some blue too. It's very possible, the vet seem to think he could be part boxer too, I guess maybe because of the masked eyes and strip between them, some boxers have that pattern. The heeler trait is dominant that's for sure. I got him from an animal shelter in El Paso, he didn't have much time left, I thought he was the cutest dog there by far so I got him and he just happened to be a heeler, so I was glad to get him.

Apparently Mr. Sosa doesn't go to ball games. The fireworks were only shot off at the beginning of the game and at halftime. I'm sure their dogs bark at every sound they here and not just at the 10 minute firework show. They probably will complain about the canon next, they will have to put a silencer on it. Next will be the crowd is too loud and the lights are too bright and they can't sleep!
