It's been awhile since we've been atop the polls, means nothing but I still like it.

Where can we find this NMHSCA poll online? I can't find it on their website anymore and I understood that all of the rankings, statistics, etc. were now kept in cooperation with Maxpreps.

I was wondering the same thing too lobo-rocket, I was going to ask rapid where he got it. I found it though, it's on the nmotsc site. It's not actually the coaches poll anymore, it states The following football poll is a New Mexico High School poll as selected by different media outlets, writers and sports casters including but not limeted to the following: NMOTSC, KNMX Radio, KFUN Radio, writers from Artesia, Belen, Las Cruces, Las Vegas, Raton and Roswell. As the poll continues more participants from around the state will take part. Any media outlet wanting to participate plese contact Richard Trip or Manuel Lucero at NMOTSC.com to validate your credentials. In this weeks poll Goddard overtook Artesia for the #1 spot. nmotsc.com/articles/nmotsc-2012-hs-football-poll-week-3/

Thanks for the info Randall. Apparently there is no longer an official Coaches' poll. The Maxpreps rankings are computer rankings that can be viewed nationally, by state regardless of classification, and also by classification (5A, 4A, 3A, etc.). NMPreps.com also has their own rankings that appear to have a panel of voters since they state how many first place votes a team received. I have no idea who their voters are however.

Right I believe the Coaches poll is done with, I've seen papers quote the NMPreps poll, I guess nmotc has their own poll, but really the only poll that matters and is official and used for playoff seeding is the MaxPrep Poll to my understanding. Maxpreps has Goddard #1 and Artesia #2 www.maxpreps.com/high-schools/artesia-bulldogs-%28artesia,nm%29/football/rankings.htm How Rankings work from their site. MaxPreps uses a computer program to determine team rank. We do not poll coaches, sportswriters, or fans. Nor does our staff make any judgments on the merits of any individual team. Prior season history, school size, and comments on message boards are not considered in the MaxPreps The system utilizes the huge number of game results stored in the MaxPreps database. Generally, the more a team wins the higher the ranking, but the system takes into account quality wins (against other highly ranked opponents) and strength of schedule. For example, a team's ranking is hurt more by losing to a team that is ranked below them verses a team ranked ahead. Other factors that will affect the rankings are times when MaxPreps has incomplete or inaccurate information. We will correct errors when they are reported to us. If we are missing a score, report it to us on the team's MaxPreps page. If we are missing a game on the schedule, send us a correction request. Generally, the more games that are played the more accurate the rankings, so if a team that you perceive as being very strong has played substantially fewer games than other ranked teams it may reflect the fact that we have less data to work with.

Interesting, I'm assuming the playoffs will still be seeded by a combination of factors like the new maxpreps rankings, strength of schedule, coaches' input, etc. is that correct? Basically these new maxpreps computer rankings will take the place of the old coaches' poll in the seeding criteria?

Yes there is other factors other than just the MaxPrep Computer rankings.
Here is the criteria from the NMAA NMAA staff will utilize the following criteria to seed & select as listed in NMAA bylaw 7.11.2:
1. Finish in district play and/or district tournaments. 2. Head to head. 3. Performance against other teams including district champions or runner-ups from other districts, regardless of class. 4. Input from NMAA staff members. 5. Overall records. 6. Elimination – what teams from that particular class do not fit the 12 or 16 team format due to their lack of success during the current year. 7. MaxPreps Freeman Rankings. 8. Member school input (see attached form). - To be submitted by head coach prior to 10:00 AM on the day of seeding. Note: Football “School Input form” will be submitted prior to 6:30 PM on the day of seeding.
