Update on our first three tournaments of the 2012-13 season: BULLDOG BOWLERS START SEASON STRONG The Artesia High School Bowling team may have 18 rookies on their 28 bowler roster however you would not know that from the results of their first three tournaments. With a mix of eight seniors, three juniors, five sophomores and thirteen freshman, Coach Ken Clayton’s AHS Bowling team began defense of their 2012 State Championship by competing in the season opening Starlight Lanes Open in Bernalillo. The Starlight event allowed a great opportunity for the young Bulldogs to get a taste of high school bowling competition. Three AHS teams competed in the sixteen team Las Cruces Novice division with the AHS #2 team taking the First Place trophy and AHS #4 and AHS #3 finishing third and forth respectively. With two tournaments of experience under their belt the AHS Bulldog Bowlers visited Ten Pin Lanes in Rio Rancho and returned with a Third Place Intermediate award a Second Place Novice award and a Second Place Rookie award as well as placing all five teams in the top six in each of the seventeen team divisions. The AHS bowlers saw their highest scores of the season with the team combining for five 200 games and one team rolling a school record Baker System game of 246. Leading the Bulldog bowlers in Rio Rancho were Breanna Evans with strong games of 213 and 200, JR Altamirano (202-157), Danny Alverez (201-139), Vanessa Harvey (204-178), Dillon Tigert (184-171), Daniel Velo (177), Jackie Cabrales (165-148), Alexis Fuentes (167), Staci Horner (159), Zac Pollard (176), Jason Allred (178-167), JD Runyan (171-153), Kyla Martinez (162-146), Casey Martinez (178-150), Ty Meinke (142), Jordan Coddington (158), Brodi Johnson (167-153), Katelynn Pinkerton (162-123), Graciela Chambers (144), Wesley Stone (132), Vanessa Barnett (128) and Ricardo Ryals-Hansen (135). The Artesia High School Bowlers next travel to Albuquerque’s Leisure Lanes on Saturday followed by one more Albuquerque tournament prior to hosting the Artesia Bulldog Bowling Invitational at home on January 26, 2013. Quotes: Coach Ken Clayton • Our bowlers continue to improve with each tournament and three months of tough practice is really paying off. • This is by far the youngest team we have had since our first year when we were all rookies. • We have a great mixture of Senior leadership and new bowlers willing to try hard and learn the game. • I want to thank all of our school administration and our sponsors for their commitment to our program. I can promise you that everything they have done to ensure these kids still having a bowling program has been worth every effort and every dollar. Twenty-eight students with a ton of pride in what they do and the way they represent Artesia High School is priceless. Thanks, Ken Clayton AHS Bowling Coach Attachments:
