Lovington has 200 less people than Artesia now, population wise, and I've also heard it was happening? I hope not because of way they have played us and Goddard, but they can handle Roswell high!

I think most are rather sure it's going to happen. My vision is fine. I did read that that was the alignment. I'm sure of that. But, as wishy washy as NMAA is, I won't be surprised anyway. NM was a lot more competitive when there were 4 classifications.

I checked NMpreps and the alignment won't be in 2013 or 2014 by what I read although they are doing some realignments. Check out NMpreps. I don't think Lovington will be in any playoffs if they were aligned with Goddard and Artesia. They need to stay in the lower district.

I guess so, I was reading the alignment for next year, but that's the proposal or what was voted in for 2014/2015
I still can't really see it happening, but who knows, they didn't move Goddard up so we need to catch up regardless.

Here's what it looks like. Not to happy myself. We (Deming) are at 1500 students, 400 which are border kids that don't participate in athletics.

Lovington will compete in 5a. This will also be for district and state tourneys in all sports.
They have the chance to protest the decision.

That's the stupidest thing I ever heard of. The alignment schedule says basketball, but I am assuming this would be for football too, right? This state is not big enough to go 1A-6A (six-man included). Hell, Texas is only 1A-5A and they have how many times more schools than we do? I think things are watered down enough with us having 5 classifications, and now they are going to add another one?

Crispy, if you look real close Texas is like having 6 man thru 10A. There are 2 state titles in each division, for a total of 12. Not being a smart tail, you really do have to look closely. That and the fact that we are moving to 6A as well in 2014. 6 divisions in NM is too watered down in my opinion. But we have our own issues. Right now, we are dealing with charter schools who have been aligned with regular schools. AAA Academy in the metroplex I think you will see this weekend and next take home all the basketball hardware in 1A in Texas. I am told that they have no less than 6 division 1 commits on boys and girls team alike. That has never happened in 5A much less 1A. Charter schools need their own division. The other thing I see wrong with NM football is 8 man football. I personally like 8 man more than 6 man, but when you have both, it really hinders scheduling. Texas doesn't play 8 man, so you can't schedule any games with them. The current bigger class of 6 man schools needs to become just another 6 man division amongst themselves, making a big and small school division. This would really help them out as far as scheduling. This and the fact that my friends in Tatum tell me that the NMAAis really inflexible with those schools. Tatum has petitioned twice to return to 11 man football and have been denied twice. We at Plains are 25 miles from them and play 11 man. Their enrollment is exactly 2 students larger than ours. They could definitely field a team. I'm ranting. O, and I am Mr. Pitch. The recent changes on the board kicked me off of my constant log on and I know longer remember my log in creds. Randall, can you help a brother bulldog out! I like the changes by the way. Except for Crispys banner. LOL

You should be able to have it generate a new password by entering your username and having it emailed to the address you signed up with. By the way, how long has it been since you played Pitch?

My kid plays soccer with a group of boys from Lovington, the coach is on the school board. I asked him about it this morning. He said they have known for several years that it was coming, just waiting on NMAA to see how they would restructure school classifications. He said their student population has been growing for the past 6 years, but they will go from one of the biggest 3A teams to one of the smallest 4A teams or rather 5A team now they are changing the classifications up. It will be tough for their atheletic teams no doubt, but maybe they will adapt.

I was told tonight that Lovington had 20 fewer kids than Artesia does so they won't be that small of a 5A. It all boils down to the north running everything and wanting everything up there! Like I told "someone" earlier, we should suceed from the north and make some SOUTH rules! lol

New Mexico is too small to have this many Divisions. This is at least a move to try to put more schools in Divisions. There are a ton of small schools who do not play football and therefore the 6 Divisions. Lovington will not see the playoffs for a while in any sport

I agree. 24 teams in the entire state per classification is quite slim. It does please me though to see Lovington in a District/classification where they won't win by just showing up. Tough times ahead for their program! (assuming this is for football too - can this be confirmed?)

Yes this is for football too, I wished they wouldn't move Lovington up, I liked rooting for them in 3A. Silver City would most likely be the only southern power in the new class, and I don't care for them too much, we still owe them 1 for 2005.
