Well I'm not right often but I knew I was right about this, referring back to that previous thread when he didn't resign with the bears. That was the best offer he was going to get, it was not a slap in the face by the Bears, that irritated me that he said that, he should have took the offer if he wanted to play 1 more year, if $2 Million wasn't enough to put his body through the strains of the NFL then by all means retire. With that said I am glad he will not wear any other uniform but the Bears. I wished things worked out a little different but that's business. It was awesome to see a guy from Lovington NM play for the Bears my favorite team since I was 5 years old. In his prime Urlacher was one of the best of all time I believe that, injuries took their toll the latter part of his career but he was a dominate force in the middle and he could run sideline to sideline. Thanks for all the memories Brian, you will always be an icon in the Windy City and without a doubt New Mexico.

That's too bad! I was really hoping to see Brian and Landry go head-to-head.....just once! How awesome it would have been to see an Artesia Bulldog and a Lovington Wildcat square off against each other in an NFL game. Brian made ALL of New Mexico proud! I will never forget the time right after Brian first went into the NFL, probably his first or second year...I was at Bulldog Bowl on a Friday night for a Bulldog football game. I was standing in line at the concession stand at half time, and in front of me stood a young man probably 8-10 years old. He had on a WAY over-sized ORANGE Bulldog jersey. And it had the name URLACHER on the back of it. I thought that was SO cool!

One thing I also appreciate about Urlacher, on a more "local" level, is that he typified the notion that you don't have to be from "the usual part of New Mexico" to be a Lobo. I always hated that notion that the Lobos' roster and fan base had to be defined by the Albuquerque-Santa Fe-Farmington-Gallup-Belen region only. Some locals (remember that I live in ABQ) seem to think that the "North" is all Lobos and the "South" is all Aggies or Texas Tech. That's completely illogical to me as a New Mexico resident.

Still a lot of Texas Tech fans down here, Urlacher wanted to be a Red Raider but they didn't offer him, UNM and NMSU were the only schools to show interest in him. www.jockbio.com/Bios/Urlacher/Urlacher_bio.htmlBrian hoped to continue his football career at Texas Tech, located just across the state border, in Lubbock. Coach Faith helped out by piecing together a highlight reel and sending it to the Red Raiders. But Tech never came across with a scholarship. In fact, the only Division 1-A schools that recruited Brian were New Mexico and New Mexico State. Undeterred by the lack of interest in him, he choose to play for Dennis Franchione and the Lobos. For Brian, any chance to rise above his meager beginnings in Lovington was a golden opportunity.
