If my math is correct there's about 75 more days 'til someone will let the dogs out to play Lovington. Looking forward toward that night when the dog will beat the wildcats.

Rumor has it Willingham will be calling defense. Also heard that they are looking outside the system for a new defensive Coach not a D.C. They have moved some younger Coaches up. I believe we had 3 positions to fill. Coach Allen, Figg and Dunbar are all gone off last years staff.

Jeff Willingham is our new DC. The defense has looked salty in the practices they have had so far this summer - they are just running 7 on 7 stuff, but they look good none the less. The sophomore group is super talented and have some very fast, hard hitting, and great tackling defensive players. These young guys also have somewhat of a nasty side and I am super excited about this upcoming season from a defensive prospective.
The offense is going to be young too, but I am excited about them as well. The QB position is going to be fought for between junior Ben Kelley and sophomore Justin Houghtaling. My guess is both will see playing time. The tailback spot will likely be filled by sophomore Jesse Gallegos. Jesse is tough nosed, fast, and strong and I believe will carry on the tradition of exploding through the middle as well as anyone we have had in this offense. We don't necessarily have a break out receiver, but the group overall is solid. Our offensive line has decent size and strength and they will be up for the challenge of both run and pass blocking as usual.
My feeling is that those who keep up with the Bulldogs feel like we will have a down year as some players that were expected to contribute have moved or outright quit, but I feel quite the opposite. My belief is that these Bulldogs will rise up and I expect to see them make a deep playoff run - might even surprise and take state! Great coaching and players who are willing to do their job and carry on the tradition will, as is usual for THE PROGRAM, make the Bulldogs once again a contender!
Go Bulldogs, TAKE STATE!!!

I agree great prospects for the future. We will be young but I am confident that these young men will step up and take advantage of their opportunities. The future is bright and I look forward to seeing them accomplish great things.

I like the positive, and feel the same way. I know Jeff Willingham very well. Have been close friends for years. For those of you who have been following AHS football for decades, he was a close friend of the late great Shawn Smith. I don't know what Artesia has right now experience-wise, or how long it will take to make the changes... so no predictions although I wouldn't be surprised by any level of success sooner than later, including this coming season. What I do feel comfortable with is that Artesia football has a solid football mind calling the defense. He has been working night and day studying, talking to people, and preparing. Too many opponents visit this board for me to divulge his plans. You guys who want shut down defense should get behind this pick, then realize that things take time. Aggressive personality, loves kids, 100% Artesia Bulldog. I would say Jeff is the fire and passion of Nick Norton, Mike Allen and Randy Dickerson but also the strategist of a Mike Worley. I really feel like this pick is the biggest and best change in the Artesia football program in 20 years.

There is a lot of strength in those words Used To Be Mr. Pitch. I think they will come out to be true. I have not heard of Jesse Gallegos. What happened to last year's running back who I thought was a tough runner? I forget his name. I would hope that the offensive line would have the spirit of Alex Donaghe along with a bit of his talent. Well bdogfan here saying go 'dogs give it all you have in smart and physical football.

They wanted the linebacker coach from Goddard, he interviewed for the job, his wife also a teacher needed a position in the school system, in the end I guess they couldn't work things out.
Willingham is a good coach, I think he will do fine with the defense.

Now maybe the good posters on this board can come back now that the coach who would call posters about their posts is gone!!!

I like some of the optimism on here, I can't lie I'm one of those that feel we could be in for a long year, we may struggle at first but maybe by playoff time we can be a solid team.
I think it's good we can have some competition for the QB spot, I believe competition can only bring out the best in both. I don't know either kid really or have seen them play I obviously know the name Houghtaling though and some of the Qb's they have given us. It's rare that a soph gets to play Qb though, even for a kid like Landry split time there as a Soph.
I just hope we don't rotate them both in, stick with whoever is best, put the other one at another spot on the field.
Just my 2 cents.

And also, who is going to be the best by mid-season, to add to your point Agent Orange. By the way, who does this Houghtaling belong to? No matter, they are all good in my book. And one last thing, some of the state title Artesia teams were the ones who 'might've been in for a long season". Check 1983, 2010 for a couple to consider. I was there in '83. Started 1-5. Finished 8 or 9-5, if memory serves.

A coach would read the board and call the poster and rip him for what was posted. He was a coach who was insecure. He no longer is with the program.
