Good question, there isn't many if any, 4 would be starters are gone or won't be back. Not sure how up to date this roster is on Maxpreps but I believe it's fairly new, not many seniors. Bulldog Roster

I have attended every passing game and several practices this summer. The Bulldogs have played Carlsbad & Portales in the bowl beating them both, and then played today at ENMU 7on7 camp. They played Plainview, Tx and Caprock High from Amarillo, TX, as well as Alamogordo and Clovis during the morning pool play. They beat Caprock & Alamo and lost to Plainview and Clovis. Then in their first game in the afternoon single elimination tournament they got beat by Plainview. Plainview and Caprock played in the championship, but I do not know who won.
The Bulldogs have looked very good all summer and in my opinion have gotten better each week. There is a ton of excitement on the field among both the players and the coaches - such that I haven't seen the last couple of years. In terms of returning starters, there are 0 skilled positions returning on offense and it also appears to me the defense is now down to 0 returning in the LB's and DB's. Several upper classmen have quit the team. As a die hard Bulldog this fact has been very disappointing to me, but I also know that the coaches and the players who are still out are dedicated and true Artesia Bulldog football players and I feel as confident as ever in our team.
Some key players for us on offense this year include Deon Wesson rec., Brock Bowman slot, Chandler Johnson slot, Ben Kelly QB/slot, Justin Houghtaling QB, Jesse Gallegos RB, and several very good lineman. On the defensive side we will have virtually all new names, but they are going to be an aggressive group who I guarantee will be hard hitting and will gang tackle. Grant Duff will likely start at MLB, Ashton Gomez at safety, and super sophomore Jacob Enriquez will probably start on the defensive line.
The Bulldogs have one more 7on7 game as they travel to Ruidoso this coming Tuesday to play Mayfield and Ruidoso.

Is Gavino Saiz not returning? What about Denzyl Garcia?

No on Saiz, Not sure about Garcia?
I have heard some more players quit, I have no insights as of why, but I guess it doesn't matter although it is disturbing. To me 2006 & 2007 we were about as high as you could get in terms of Bulldog Football imo, the stands were packed at home games, our offense was killer and we weren't too bad on Defense either especially in 06, some of that had to do with Landry Jones but we had a lot of talent all over the field, we were talking on here about playing Mayfield or some of the better West Texas teams cause we knew win or lose we could probably compete with those guys.
Seems like we've been sinking slowly ever since, the 2010 team really over came in part to some great leaders on the team I think and catching a couple excellent teams in the Bowl for the Playoffs didn't hurt either.
To me it's no secret there are some issues in the program, exactly what I don't know, but the numbers are down, kids quitting, stands and crowds are thinner, this isn't the Bulldog Program I've known and grew up around. Have times just changed, have the kids changed? who knows, I think maybe coaches are struggling to find the answers as well.
Kuddos to the kids coming out and giving their all, it's really a new team with some new staff too, so youth and enthusiasm would be high you'd think with new coaches and even new positions being up for grabs.

Sounds like there's a lack of leadership within the troops. Hopefully these new players can move the team to new heights. It sounds from what godogs09 writes the enthusiasm is there, now it is up for the coaches to develop these guys and the community win or lose get behind this young team.

Just my opinion but I think some of the problems may have left town for another coaching position. I know that is not all of it but I think it had a lot to do with it!!! We will see, I will show up and cheer for whomever is out there, I still bleed Bulldog Orange and always will.
Are there different divisions at the ENMU 7 0n 7? I read something yesterday that said Hobbs took 3 teams and two made the semis and one won the championship. That would be different than what Godogs said and I know he knows what he is talking about.
Again, on that 2010 team, we had some of the best Quarterbacking we have ever had in the last 4 games or so. Houghtaling was lights out!!!!!

There were several small schools, 3A and below, at the ENMU 7on7, plus Roswell, Carlsbad, Clovis, Alamogordo and of course the Bulldogs, as well as the TX schools in Caprock and Plainview. Artesia had three teams in the tournament in the varsity, JV, and freshman. I am not sure how our JV and Freshman ended up, but as I stated in a previous post our varsity lost in their first afternoon game ending their day. Hobbs didn't win the varsity division as I was told Caprock and Plainview played for the championship, but their freshman and JV teams may have done well. The Bulldogs played very good against much larger schools that had some very talented athletes. Clovis, Plainview, Alamogordo, and Caprock had a lot of speed and were pretty physical but our varsity played right there with them beating both Alamo and Caprock and the other games could have gone either way.

Well that sounds positive godogs. I still think that out of these group of underclassmen football players some solid leadership rises to the top. I think that is what the dogs had in 2010 with Andy and Houghtling, as well as solid leadership in other solid teams in recent years, such as Landry and Dallas. I'm sure there were others that at this time I can't recall their names. However, Mr. Jades leadership begins with the coaches. Hopefully it will not trickle down but heavily pour down to a few of the players.

That is exactly what I am saying, one of them is gone now. That will help. Not sure what you are trying to say. What I am saying is pretty clear. Cooper has always been good at leadership. We now have some youth on the coaching staff the helps in some areas, enthusiasm etc. There will be growing pains as they gain experience but in every job it is better to have someone that is excited to be there than someone who is not and ends up causing problems. Experience can be gained, bad attitude affects everyone else.

I understand Leadership starts at the top, but I would have to disagree with people who think Mr. Cooper Henderson is not a good leader.

I don't think Cooper is not a good leader. He did well in Texas when coaching there. He did well in Ruidoso and he's done excellent in Artesia. Like every head coach in each sport they need solid assistants.

This young person is a good athlete. IMO a person who can play more than one and two sports is a good athlete. I guess you can say he' going to play "Football". Gonna miss him playing tackle...

Was anyone at the short 2-a-days session? Whats up with that by the way?? Not sure about NM. In Texas we have all kinds of new regulations. No practice session over 3 hours. No contact or running in more than 1 practice per day. You cannot practice twice on consecutive days. 90 minute per week contact limitation. All having to do with heat related illness.
