Today I just heard from a friend from Las Vegas NM, they are going to put all the State Championships at the new football stadium they just built on west side of Burque. What a bummer!

That person that told you this is wrong. No talks have even started on a neutral site Championship. It has to be brought forth by the ADs and Superintendents.
Now I hate to disappoint some of you but there is a push for a neutral site title game. SOME of the push is coming from Southern Coaches. Just so you know it isn't all north. Go to the NMAA website and see how the Superintendents voted for Redistricting. You will notice that only 2 southern Sups voted against it and the rest voted for. You might see that type of vote for a Neutral site title game.
If we don't pack the Bowl then the title game will become a neutral site game. We showed poorly against Aztec last year with the stands empty. Not good. Its schools like us, Clovis, Goddard and the Cruces schools that have to really pack in the title games to prove our point that a neutral game is not the best. The reason behind a neutral site for title games is because of the success of the State Basketball tourney. That is a huge event that generates huge dollars for the NMAA. It's all about money.
If the state game does become neutral it won't be at the new Stadium in Albuquerque. It will either be at UNM or NMSU. Nowhere else.
It will take some time before they even decide if the state title game is going to be at a neutral site.

I think your right on the money Bulldog1, if we can't fill our own stands then it shouldn't be here as much as I would like to keep it like it is, it wouldn't make $ense.

You really think the seats would be filled if it was two southern teams that played for the state's blue trophy? Let's say it is Goddard and Artesia. Northern people don't give one flip about two southern teams playing each other.

bdogfan, wow, really? "Northern people don't give one flip about two southern teams playing each other?" Well as you probably read from Bulldog1's post it's coming from the south too, not all the "north." This North/South "rivalry" is fun and entertaining but it's shortsighted and just wrong that you automatically assume it's the "north." And it's about more than just this one topic also. I respect the "south" teams and your history, your bulldogs especially, but lets not forget we're all New Mexico football and the reality is, unfortunately, playing the Championship game at a neutral site such as UNM is the only chance most NM kids will have to play in a D1 stadium. So it's good for the kids. Also, NMAA is about making money so it's a business decision to them. Also, other NM HS sports do it (baseball, softball, basketball, etc), college does it, NFL does it, it only makes sense that we would do it too. Yes, there will be the occasion that two very close in proximity teams will have to travel a significant distance to play in a Championship but the kids will have fun and it may give them a little more exposure. And let's not forget it will happen to OTHER teams besides your beloved bulldogs, as it already has in other sports, but somehow they make it work and I'm sure you could too. Let me just say, the "north" isn't out to "get you." And lastly, Coach Bob Davie (UNM HC) said himself he wanted to get the Championship game at Lobo stadium. He said it the spring he was hired. So he's supporting it and it's hard to go against that along with the other reasons the game might move.

Just one more reason for me to HATE everything about the Lobos and Albuquerque, as if I didn't already. Yes, I know that Dallas Bollema plays for UNM, but my hatred of the Lobos trumps that.......sorry Dallas. I will just be glad when Dallas is gone so I can hate them with a clear conscience. My intense dislike for Albuquerque and the Lobos stems from stuff EXACTLY like this. People from Albuquerque (or Burque as they call it, MAN I hate that word) have the attitude that this state revolves around Albuquerque, that if you are not from "Burque" then you are NOTHING and your opinion doesn't count. And before somebody says that people from Albuquerque are not like that.....I have seen it with my own eyes, WAY too many times! Pompous and arrogant! Why should we be surprised that they want to take our state title games away? They bring this up every couple of years and I am SICK of it. Hey Albuquerque.........(#1) New Flash for ya, this state does NOT revolve around you! And (#2)...You have taken everything else in this state and moved it to Albuquerque, let us keep our damn state championship games!!!!!!! Oh, almost forgot.....(#3) I hope your Albuquerque Lobos lose every game this year. I call them the Albuquerque Lobos instead of the UNM Lobos because they sure as heck don't represent ME. I have no doubt that a former Bulldog coach who live in Mansfield TX (whom I respect greatly) will chime in, and I already know his opinion on this topic. But I am ready for him. I am loaded for bear! Sorry for the rant.

And just one more thing......ANY coach from our part of the state that supports this idea, and votes to move our title games to Albuquerque, I will have lost total respect for! I don't know which side of this issue Coach Henderson comes down on .....but yes, that includes even him.

I have mixed feelings about this. When i played, i enjoyed the home town crowd! It is a beautiful site to come down the ramp and see all the orange in the stands. That right there is easily a 7-14 point advantage against most teams. However, we travel very well. IF the state game is in the ABQ (i don't say burque because i think its dumb), then we will travel well and go win a state championship.
I also had the opportunity to play in 2 baseball state championships. We lost one my junior year and won the other my senior year. Playing at the UNM stadium and then at the Isotopes(was the Dukes) stadium was a memory of a life time!! Those big time ball fields brought on another feeling that made me think we were larger than life itself.
I guess what I'm trying to say, is that the players will be prepared no matter what. Our coaches should have these kids ready to play whether its in Cowboy Stadium or on that little ol field on the side of the mountain in Ruidoso NM. Bring it on, its just another time and place for Bulldog Football!!

It means a lot for the schools/towns that get to host. Sort of a reward for towns like ours who have the type of program that host lots of them. The other thing I hate is, well, ABQ. If it were a different place maybe, but there's nothing special about ABQ. Maybe rotate it between 4 or 5 places and then I guess maybe once every once in a while in ABQ. I still hope it doesn't change.

The most important thing in this discussion is that we WORK HARD and get back into the state championship game, so that we can continue to give the northern part of the state a reason to dislike us. I'm really looking forward to this season. I'm optomistic about the future of Bulldog football.
