Coppell beat Longview 32-24 and Lufkin beat Tyler John Tyler 52-28. Tyler Lee beat Sulphur Springs 55-20, so the schools you asked about went 1-2 in week zero. For future refrence, go to www.lonestargridiron.com Totally off-topic here, BUT..........I have distant relatives in Sulphur Springs. My grandmother on my mom's side had a baby brother (and his wife) who lived in Sulphur Springs since the 1940s until they both passed away........so they were my great-uncle and great-aunt. And ALL of their kids (my 2nd cousins) still live in Sulphur Springs. We were there visiting for a couple of days when I was probably 12 yrs old. That was the only time I have ever been there, but my cousins still live in Sulphur Springs. Sorry for going off-topic......carry on, lol.

LA, why didn't they call it in 1st qtr? LOL That's a good butt whippin! Hey does LA play San Jon this year, if so when and where? Because they have to play until halftime in order for the mercy rule to kick in. Lake Arthur play San Jon @san Jon on Friday, Oct 18 at 3pm. Middle School game is at 1pm.

Yes, I know they have to play until half, just being sarcastic. I graduated from San Jon, before they had a football team and been wanting to go watch a game, may try to go to that one if I'm off, but that is just after elk hunting time too!

Frenship should be ok vs. Permian. Mojo has fallen on hard times. As has Frenship recently. Lubbock Cooper and Shallowater are the schools of choice in recent years. Frenship will always be competitive as their district is extremely weak. But if you've been to Lubbock recently you should have noticed the explosion on construction of new homes in South Lubbock, the Cooper school district. They are 3A for 1 more year and have the dominant football/baseball program in Lubbock. Basketball always has and always will belong to Estacado. Of course one of the best private schools in the state, Trinity Christian draws heavily from this area also. They are in the first year of football and only playing at the sub-varsity level. I would imagine soon they will be awesome in football, like they are in basketball, volleyball, etc.

How is that weak? Baseball also went to regionals if I'm not mistaken. I also think Frenship scrimmaged Lubbock Cooper two or three weeks ago and pasted them. Not sure about all your thoughts here, Mr. Pitch.

Not sure about all your thoughts here, Mr. Pitch. Keep an eye on it. See what happens in the next few years. I'm not out of my comfort zone on this one. Anyhow, I re-read my post and I can't figure out how you got that I said Frenship was weak? There district is, but I don't mean that to be a shot at Frenship. They are still one of the better schools in Lubbock. But just keep an eye on it. They should continue to get some move in, and transfer types. But Frenship, Shallowater, Trinity and beginning to be Idalou are good because Lubbock ISD is bad. 10 years ago everyone wanted to send their kids to Frenship. Now it's Cooper. There are just no good 4A or 5A programs in this part of the state. Frenship will always feast on the weaker district and schedule. Cooper is a 3A school right now. Far more competitive. And I'm not sure about Frenship baseball. I know they weren't in Austin with the Cooper Pirates at the state baseball tournament. As I said, I'm not out of my comfort zone on this.

I don't keep up with it until this year because of Trevor. I got the "weak" from your statement of "Mojo has fallen on hard times. As has Frenship recently" and this statement "Frenship will always be competitive as their district is extremely weak" Neither of those quotes are glowing endorsements. I didn't look up the records, just going by what I was told and if 11-2 is correct, not weak. I was also told the baseball team was like 25-4 or something like that. If true, not weak. This is not the first time you have pumped the brakes on Frenship on this site. Just wondering why you feel this way with that type of success? Bottom line, it doesn't really matter, this is a Bulldog board not a Tiger board. Really just wondering about some quotes. BTW, I was okay with the Bulldog defense the other night. They did pretty well except for 3 plays. They are going to make mistakes. Youth always does, they will grow.

Nah, I don't have anything against Frenship. As many know, a few years back I was an Andrews Mustang. We really didn't care much for frenship. I guess it's left over from that. I bite my tongue on them a lot. And big spring. But hey I don't dislike them like I dislike Carlsbad. It is true that frenship is far and away the best 4A team in the area. All the other great 4a programs are now 3a. Cooper will be 4a soon. On their way to 5A. Monahans, Sweetwater, Andrews, etc. all 3A. For what it's worth If I lived in Lubbock is consider sending my kids to frenship, but is probably send them out to Idalou.

My comment of the surprise that Frenship beat Canutillo, who supposedly is not that strong. As for Lubbock schools, Estacado has won at least one football championship and I think they are a strong football team too. They waxed their opponent last Friday. I have kept up with Estacado High School since coach Kelly, one of the great ones in Texas and I hope they take all this year. The Matador/Bulldogs hopefully take it all.....'nuf said.

I am going to start keeping up with those Plains Cowboys. I love football, my favorites season. So, I will root for the AHS bulldogs, Plains Cowboys, Estacado matadors, Pittsburgh Steelers, NM Lobos and The Texas Tech Red Raiders, incidentally they used to be called the Matadors, I think it was their first mascot name.

You are correct. The name of the TTU school song is in fact "The Matador". I appreciate the support for the Plains Cowboys. At the present time we are just trying to avoid 6-man football. We have 3 sophomores playing and 1 is recovering from ACL surgery. There are only 6 sophomore boys in the class. 1A football is funny. You get a couple of 'girl heavy classes' in a row and you are in trouble. We currently have a sophomore class with 23 girls and 6 boys. Our junior class is similar but not quite as drastic. Then we have boy heavy classes in the 9th, 8th, and 7th consecutively. We started freshmen at 7 positions Friday night and that number will only grow. Gotta fight thru the next 2 years, then we should be tougher than a new leather boot.
