I have heard about Cherry Creek for a long time. Cherry Creek is one of the largest schools in Colorado and the Denver metro area with an enrollment of almost 4,000. They have 8 state titles in Colorado, all of them since 1982 and all of them in the largest classification in Colorado which is AAAAA. They have been ranked in the Top 100 nationwide many times. In 2007 their QB was Jack Elway, and I don't have to tell you who his dad is. Legendary Denver Bronco QB JOHN Elway was the QB coach at Cherry Creek for a few years. See where I am going with this? When I think of Cherry Creek out of Denver CO I would say that they are PROBABLY not on the same level with the best teams in Texas, but they are probably on the same level as the best teams in Oklahoma...Jenks and Union. And probably WAY better that the best teams in NM. Cherry Creek is probably the best team that Clovis will play all year, and that includes Mayfield and Cruces. But even given all of that, I was still a little shocked at how bad Clovis lost.

If you can imagine as big as Denver is, with lax transfer rules in Colorado, This is somewhat of a Denver all-star team. I think they are probably closer to the best teams in Texas than you gave them credit for.

I was more suprised by the thumping Los Lunas gave Aztec than anything, I thought LL would win by a few touchdowns, but dang not 50-0

No, I refuse to believe that Cherry Creek, Co is as good as some Tx. teams. There too many 5A Tx HS teams that are too good and beat Cherry Creek (ie.Austin Lake Travis). I think this may be the year of Los Lunas but I hope the 'dogs can make it 28 state blue trophies.

Last Night Allen Texas played SouthLake Carroll. SLC is a top 10 in Nation team most years and was picked high this year. Allen drummed them and had 665 yards of offense. Both teams will have 7-8 D-1 players. Cherry Creek does not have that kind of talent

This early in the season it is really hard to tell about these teams. You don't know if Los Lunas is really that good, or if Aztec is really that bad. Have to wait until 3 or 4 games-in, just to have some basis for comparison. That win by Los Lunas looks really good for them NOW, but if Aztec ends up going 2-8.........well, you just never know. It will take a few weeks to get it all figured out.

Funny thing is how much talent in DFW there is that doesn't ever get noticed because inner city coaching can be suspect. You are talking about suburb schools where the coaching talent matches the player talent. Tim Brown played in the DFW area and was like 2-28 as a varsity player. Of course, he got noticed.

Texasoil was in fact at the Allen/SLC game friday night. We were lucky enough to get 3 sideline passes from the SLC AD so my twin sons joined me on the sideline. Allen is loaded! Two of their LB's are commited to OU and Arizona State respectively, two kids on the OL are committed to Baylor and OU from what we were told by the Allen coach. The QB, Kyler Murray, who is only a Jr. has offers from a bevy of the top D-1 schools in the nation. He was the 5A Divison I championship game MVP last year as a soph.
SLC has a solid team. We should go 9-1 and make a nice playoff run. We have 4-5 kids that will go D-1 as well. One OL has committed to SMU already. Charliedog is correct, the DFW area, and especially on his side of town is loaded and I mean loaded with speed. Cedar Hill beat Denton Guyer thursday night rather easily despite Guyer coming off a 4A state title and has Elite 11 QB Sherrod Heard, a Texas commitment. DeSoto, Cedar Hill, Skyline have speed like you guys wouldn't believe.
The DFW area is loaded this year. Coppell, Euless Trinity, Aledo.... I could go on and on.... If you love HS football, it is a great place to live.

Coppell beat Longview 32-24 and Lufkin beat Tyler John Tyler 52-28. Tyler Lee beat Sulphur Springs 55-20, so the schools you asked about went 1-2 in week zero. For future refrence, go to www.lonestargridiron.com
