Any of our researchers out there help me out. The last time Halloween fell on Friday was 2008. We moved halloween to Nov 1st, was this the first time we did that or has it been done before? As I remember I think it hit some national news channels. 2008 wasn't really that long ago and this board was around but I can't remember lol. All I've been able to dig up is this. www.topix.com/forum/high-school-football/TR7BSMRHAP1UUTFN0

I did find this posted on the old football board I have hidden. We played Roswell High that night in Artesia, with this one being out of town in Roswell who knows.
Here is the story
It was on KOB News just a few minutes ago, it's on their website as well. kob.com/article/stories/S638602.shtml?cat=500
Artesia postpones Halloween for football game
Trick-or-treaters will be hitting the streets around the state friday night, but Artesia kids will have to wait until the next night to celebrate the holiday.
The southern New Mexico town is so crazy about its high school football team, Halloween doesn't stand a chance there when it's competing with a game, so it is being postponed until Saturday.
The town's mayor says it wouldn't be safe to keep it on Friday because most of the town's police force will be manning traffic and crowd control at the game.
Some parents think the move might be a good idea because nobody will be home Halloween night anyway.
"The first year the bulldogs had a football game and had Halloween moved, I decided to take my kids trick-or-treating and there was absolutely no one home in the city of Artesia. Everyone was at the game except for us, so now we go to the games as well,” Michael Clark said.
Artesia is scheduled to play Roswell High School this Friday. It is expected that about three quarters of the town of Artesia will attend the game.

This is just for home games right or would Halloween be moved for an away game also?

I think that it's been going on for a long time. I remember hearing that it made Paul Harvey news. I think they used to only do it for home games but it makes sense to move it for away games too. If you have to stay in Artesia to take your kids trick or treating, you can't go to the game, right? Besides, lots of times the houses with the really good treats (candy or caramel apples, popcorn balls, etc.) used to be the homes without kids at home. They seemed to have more time to "fuss" with it. I think they should move it again this year.

I remember it happening a time or two, back in the day, usually involving a Bulldog home game. The Jaycees back then sponsored a Spook House somewhere, and were asked to postpone it one night. And residents were just asked to do their trick-or-treating one night later.
Don't recall it being that big a deal, though some bigger media outlets seemed to think it was.
