Controversial to maybe some, but I am a man of Faith myself.
Topic came up today talking with someone, does anybody know when exactly we quit praying before the football game? If I recall correctly I remember Danny Parker saying the prayer over the Intercom not too long ago before the games, praying for the safety of each player and safe travels for the visiting team.
Does anybody know? I'm sure they were told to stop or they can't do this anymore. When I played just before we left the locker room all players kneeled and joined hands and said the Lords Prayer before we hit the door to go down the ramp, I wonder if this is still done?

...When I played just before we left the locker room all players kneeled and joined hands and said the Lords Prayer before we hit the door to go down the ramp, I wonder if this is still done? A funny side-effect of this is that now, 18 years later, every time I ever hear or say the Lord's Prayer, I get goose bumps. The adrenaline immediately starts flowing as soon as we say 'Amen'. The hair on the back of my neck raises and I am ready to [figuratively] tear somebody's head off. I told my wife this once and she just couldn't understand. I guess saying it all those years just before going wild and heading down that ramp and onto the dog-pile, has ingrained that reaction very deep. I love it.

The NCAAP I believe challenged pre-game prayer on public property, federally, several years ago. As a coach I have heard it on occasion at stadiums who were in defiance. More often than not, I have seen "a moment of silence" observed. I have been in attendance when the PA announcer said something to the effect of, "We are going to now observe a moment of silence. We suggest that you pray. You can pray for the safety of the participants in tonights contest, and contests throughout the nation, that traditionally take place on Friday night. You can pray for safe travel for the teams and their fans. You can ask for forgiveness for your transgressions. You can say thank you that you were born in this great nation where you are free to worship, but not express your faith." I have also been in a small stadium where students with loud speakers in the bed of a pickup parked outside the stadium Said a pre-game prayer loud and clearly enough to be heard in the stadium. The greatest was when we were in a visiting town and on the sidelines when a person stepped to the mike and went "ah-choo" (sneeze). The home crowd in unison said, "Bless you!" I was at Calallen HS in south Texas for several years where the AD/head coach Phil Danaher, who by the way will soon become the winningest HS football coach in history, is a man of great faith. We had devotionals before games with our team. We also always came out to midfield and met the other team if they wished and took a knee and a player led in the Lord's prayer. Good stuff.

......Topic came up today talking with someone, does anybody know when exactly we quit praying before the football game?......... Have they really stopped doing that.....the prayer before the game? I'm not really in a position to know. I usually go to all HOME games, only missed one this year. But I am usually late getting to the stadium, I usually walk in the gate just as the Dogs are coming down the ramp or as they are setting up for the opening kick-off. I always seem to hear The National Anthem being played just as I am getting out of my car, or walking from the car to the gate, lol. As for The Lord's Prayer in the locker room, I have no idea if they still do that. But who would ever know, unless there is a spy from the ACLU in the locker room during pregame, right? ??

Yeah that seems to be the norm moment of silence instead of the prayer now.
Only someone who's playing now or a parent who asked their kid would know if they still did the lords prayer before leaving the locker room.

Las Cruces, Mayfield, Onate and Centennial all pray before every game. (MOST all players from each team do, not all) Even on the road after running onto the field before game start and some again after half.

I think if the students do it themselves it should be fine. But I can see how a coach or teacher leading it could be bad if some of the students aren't Christian (they could be Muslim, atheist, etc). I think a moment of silence is fine so everyone can pray or not pray however they want.
