Last Saturday, 9th Grade boys Basketball team defeated Roswell 61-54 to claim the border conference championship.
Supposedly this is the 1st time boys have won it in 9th grade.
You guys probably heard me say this before but this is an impressive group, big numbers, size and speed to go along with it. They keep together next few years should be fun to watch.

No I don't have highlights or clips bdog, my son an 8th grader so I never had the chance to watch many games, usually they had games on same day. I was able to watch the Basketball championship game though.
Rapid right only loss was to Roswell in Roswell, but they beat them twice in Artesia.

I miss the days when the junior high teams were the Trojans and school colors were red and black. Yep, when I came up through the APS system.......I graduated from AHS in 1976........Zia was the Hornets, blue and gold.....and Park was the Trojans, red and black. I was at Zia for 7th grade only (1970-1971), and then off to Park for 8th and 9th grades (1971-1973). True story..........during Christmas my Dad crawled up in his attic and pulled out a box of stuff that had been up there since I was a kid. In that box was my old red and black Park Jr High letter jacket. I tried to put my arm in the sleeve, and my hand would only go in to about the elbow of the sleeve. I probably weighed 125 lbs soaking wet when I got that jacket........and 260 today, lol.

I was a Zia Hornet myself. I thought it was perfect back then. You went from elementary school (about 1/6 the kids in town in each school) to Zia and Park (about 1/2 at each school) and then to high school where you got to meet the rest.

You went from elementary school (about 1/6 the kids in town in each school) to Zia and Park (about 1/2 at each school) and then to high school where you got to meet the rest. Yep, I went through elementary school at Hermosa......grades 1-6. The year after I finished the 6th grade was the year that the changes went into effect. It use to be......elementary 1-6.....Park and Zia 7-9, whether you went to Park or Zia depended on what part of town you lived in. But after my 6th grade year at Hermosa they changed it to elementary 1-5.....Zia 6-7...Park 8-9. Since I had already finished 6th grade in elementary school I went straight to 7th grade at Zia.....then off to Park for 8th and 9th. My AHS graduating class of 1976 was the only class that went to Zia for only one year. I kinda take pride in that, lol
