2022 Valley-Artesia Quarterfinal Game History This is the first ever meeting between the Valley Vikings and the Bulldogs, they have played other southeast New Mexico schools over the years. Valley started playing football in 1954 and played in the largest school classification until they dropped down to 5A in 2018. This will be the Bulldogs 121st playoff game since playoffs were implemented in New Mexico in 1953. The Bulldogs have only lost five home playoff games in 69 years, the last being an 61-55 overtime loss to Aztec in the 2012 quarterfinal game. Artesia Bulldogs Playoff Record Quarterfinal Games: 31-6-1 (81.6% winning percentage) Home Playoff Games: 60-5-1 (90.9% winning percentage) Overall Playoff Record: 96-22-2 (80% winning percentage)

Anybody ready for some football? Valley coached by Billy Cobos, a Goddard Alum. I didn't know that until recently. 1st year as Head coach, seems to have done a good job, 8-3 record, not the strongest schedule but already got a playoff win under his belt. www.krqe.com/video/new-valley-football-coach-establishing-a-culture-with-the-vikings/7865247/What a time to visit Bulldog Bowl in November. I know everyone expecting dogs to roll but hope we got a packed house on Saturday. The playoff games last year at home were pretty electric, tougher competition to start with but hope we can duplicate that.

Something I have seen and have noticed not much if any chatting about is the fact that the defense is not trying to ball strip every play and missing tackles. They are flat out tackling and it is showing big time.

The defense has played lights out, they are back to tackling (wrapping up) and hitting people. Reminds me of the defense we played back in the 90’s

The front 4 are great players, all seniors. I think you win in the trenches, it just boost the whole defensive scheme. They can generate a lot of pressure and can control the line of scrimmage.
We return a lot for next season, these guys right here are going to be missed. Hopefully we can re-load up there.

I thought attendance was lackluster Saturday , but those that were there had good energy for the game. Maybe online ticket sales only? Playoff ticket prices, it was cold, it was a free stream, opponent wasn’t that great expected blowout.
I’m under the impression back in the day it didn’t matter the circumstances the Bowl was usually full.
I think online only tickets, higher prices and opponent probably the biggest factors. Seems to me last years quarterfinal with mayfield was well attended, but much better anticipated matchup.

How THIS years Bulldog team would do against other great Bulldog teams from the past if they could play each other. 2006 and 2007 were two of the best Bulldog teams in recent history, in my opinion anyway...those 2 years were Landry's junior and senior seasons. Well, here is what Calpreps has to say about that.......... neutral field [2006] Artesia (NM) 36, [2022] Artesia (NM) 35neutral field [2022] Artesia (NM) 42, [2007] Artesia (NM) 38Now I know that people laugh at computer comparisons between teams, especially teams from different eras. Calpreps is not perfect, but it's the best we've got. And they have been pretty dang accurate in the past. Having said that, those Bulldog teams from 2006 & 2007 were really something special! And according to Calpreps, this season's Bulldog team is right up there with those 2 teams. Yes, this years Bulldog team is very special.....and I only see them getting better over the next few seasons. Now THAT is scary!

Interesting, see where this team ends up at to be compared to one of the best ever.
