From the Artesia Athletic Office Coach Cooper Henderson will be retiring from the Artesia Public Schools as Athletic Director in June. We would like to make a scrap book of letters from past Athletes, Coaches and Parents for him. Letters about what he has meant to you in your life or even your child's life or just a fun memory. Please bring them in an envelope to the Basketball Pit Athletic Office addressed to Penny Youtsey or mail to Penny Youtsey 301 Bulldog Blvd, Artesia, NM 88210 By May 30th,2023. PLEASE do not say anything to Cooper!! It is a Surprise!!!

Pretty much the best ever to do it in New Mexico. Impressive. Would have liked to see him get 300 wins. One season would have done it. Two would have put him behind Roanhaus.

yup although he stepped away from Head Coach in 2015 he was still coaching, was head coach of the soph group.
He still had it, said before he took my sons soph group that didn't do so great at the Jr High level and took them to 7-0 never seen them play so well as a unit. He was my head coach in school, said it before as well but he hasn't aged a bit, he may look younger lol.
An interesting man, what a legacy he leaves.

Brian Taylor was announced new Athletic Director today by ksvp and the Artesia schools.
Both his son's were Quarterbacks for Artesia, Nathan & Trent Taylor, known Brian for awhile, I think this was a great choice and he will do a fine job in this role.

Bryan played baseball and basketball for the Bulldogs

Heard he is a great guy too, but I'm worried Coach Maupin will look for another job within a year or two. Not much of a path forward for him here now.

I'm a "mark" on Artesia history and its seems Artesia has NO problem finding the right person for the job as people come and go.

How long was Cooper Henderson athletic director? I can't even remember who was before him, or when he took that role.

Brian is a great guy, but I fully expected Coach Maupin to get the job as Brian was an elementary school principle and has never been a high school head coach to my knowledge. Coach M has been coaching since he graduated college and has been a high school head coach for the last 6 years. He's about the same age Coach Henderson was when he got the AD. As a head coach, he took 2 different teams to state 4 out of 5 years (6th year was covid and went 3-0.) Tons of excitement at both places he's coached with record # of kids out. But no matter how much he loves Artesia, I'm sure his family comes first. Hats off to Coach Henderson as he has left a legacy that will live on for ages.

Pretty sure Brian was a head softball coach in Amarillo for a few years before coming back to Artesia. Who knows what the future holds right. We know what we got in Coach Maupin, If push came to shove I don't think we would lose him without a fight ha ha. Brian is a smart guy, he wants to make his AD job smooth sailing you keep your football coach

I was thinking it might have been him too but wasn't sure if he would have the dual roles either, superintendent and AD Who were some of the other AD's we've had in this town? I have no clue
