Looking at Clevelands remaining schedule, with the possible exception of Frenship, a Texas school they play next week at home that I dont know anything about, if the Dogs dont beat Cleveland I dont see anybody else doing so all the way to another state title for the Storm.

Looking at Clevelands remaining schedule, with the possible exception of Frenship, a Texas school they play next week at home that I dont know anything about, if the Dogs dont beat Cleveland I dont see anybody else doing so all the way to another state title for the Storm. Frenship is the only high school in Wolfforth TX. Wolfforth is a suburb of Lubbock, on the southwest corner of Lubbock. In fact, a lot of the kids that play for Frenship live in SW Lubbock. They are pretty dang good.....they beat Cleveland at home last year 56-52. Frenship is just as good this year. Cleveland will have their hands full! In fact, CalPreps says that Frenship wins by one point.....THIS year..... neutral field [2023] Frenship (Wolfforth, TX) 35 (53%), [2023] Cleveland [V. Sue] (Rio Rancho, NM) 34 (47%) This will probably be Cleveland's toughest game.

Their Linebacker Stratton Shufelt is a stud and D1 Prospect. My son was a Captain in the 2021 game so was Stratton, my son said what a physical specimen he was and then found out he was only a sophomore lol. rrobserver.com/storms-shufelt-has-wide-choice-of-colleges-for-next-season/One good thing is we won't have to deal with QB Evan Wysong, Gatorade Player of the year last year, he's at UNM now. He was hard to stop with his athleticism.

Cleveland is on a different level I'm afraid. At one time Las Cruces (even Mayfield) was the Souths only real hope to keep the evil empire in check. With the creation of Centennial High in Las Cruces those day look to be all but a memory. 10-15 years ago I would have never imagined they'd catch up with the South. Not only have they caught up BUT have long pasted us by.

They are going for 4th title in a Row. They have done it with multiple coaches as well, they just continue to win. It's been an impressive program and rise to the top, yes it's hard to believe they have overtaken the Southern Teams No doubt they are a much bigger team than us on both fronts, we will have to play mistake free ball and score on almost every drive and hope for a couple turnovers on their end. Last year didn't we have like 5 turnovers total ? rrobserver.com/stormcoming-a-happy-one-cleveland-61-artesia-33/I'm not too concerned win or lose this game, just don't want to see us get injured, in the past we've lost a player against them, just bad luck ? maybe. We are 0-6. If we played them 10 times they are probably winning 9 maybe we can hope for a miracle and get 1

BigDaddyCool. Side Question are you guys losing out on a game because of the Belen & Valley fight and they have to forfeit? That seems unfair to you guys.

Not much we can do about it. I mean what can we do? Everyone's schedule is finalized. We'll use this week to heal up and prepare for OUR Carlsbad.... Silver City

Dang that’s crazy. Does it count as a win for you or just no contest period?

We threw the ball over 60 times last year, and I remember the coaches saying the next week that we had double digit “drops.” In fact Nye would have shattered the single game and single season completion records last season if not for the drops in that game. I would think we’ll have to have to same game plan. I can’t imagine us being able to run against that animal in the middle. But I guess you never know, it seems like everyone else has game planned to slow us down through the air, and in turn have allowed Frankie to run wild on everyone, in fact he’s on pace for a record setting year. I’m thinking we don’t have a lot of depth at the skill positions, so staying healthy has to be the ultimate goal this week!!

Belen must have instigated. Valley had very good sportsmanship when they visited last year. I was actually impressed with them even after getting beat like that.

Thanks for the link, I wish they could implement a hockey style rule in football. I've never seen fans boo anytime two teams go at it. But, I understand they don't want anyone getting hurt. Anyone have additional information about the time Artesia and Carlsbad had a brawl? That sounded legendary but nobody ever talks about it.

I might be mistaken on the year, Coach Harvey would make us watch the brawl on film before our ECW. It was 1976, Artesia had a winning streak going , a pretty long one. Carlsbad beat us at the Bowl, then the cavemen got on there knees along our sideline and started bowing down with helmets off. People in the stands from both sides to fight ans/or break it up. Not sire if I’m exact on year and probably left sone facts out

Not sire if I’m exact on year and probably left sone facts out I was there, remember is like it was yesterday.......So just a couple of corrections if you don't mind, respectfully.......it was the 1975 football season, my senior year; I graduated in 1976. The game was played in Carlsbad. Everything else that Noondog posted is correct. Carlsbad snapped our 22 game win streak. After the game was over Carlsbad players came to the Artesia sideline and got down on their knees and started bowing down to the Bulldog players, as if to mock them. A Carlsbad player got kicked in the face by a Bulldog. After that it was pure chaos. All hell broke loose. Bulldog fans and Carlsbad fans shared the visitor's side at Ralph Bowyer Stadium making it easier for them to get to each other....that was a disastrous layout for that night. There were numerous fights going on all over the field as well between players. There wasn't a player from either team that wasn't involved. It continued out into the parking lot as fans were making their way to their cars. The event was SO memorable that somebody made a cap commemorating the event. Says "Eddy County War 1975" on the cap. I got mine at Rugged Trade a few years ago.........
